VESSMIER reacted to Ikna in random thoughts thread
I know I am going to open a big can of worms, but being active in the goth subculture for so many years and knowing people in the scene personally who have been part of this thing since the early 80s, I say the whole thing about gawf being a counter-culture misanthropic youth fashion trend is wrong and some cliché that the media came up with during the age of the Satanic Panic and ran with it.
It's been (and will always be) about the music and not so much the clothes or hating everyone (lol, most old wavers and goffs I know are so perky you'd think they are all untrve poseurs if you didn't knew any better). I know that's an argument many people do not like, because that means it takes more than heavy eyeliner and tacky shillstar clothes made in Bangladesh - such as actually liking some post-punk and goth music. And many people think they need that dreaded "G" label to prove how different they are from mainstream society and will fight tooth and nail that they "deserve" the label because of how they dress, which is something I don't get.
Also I have never met any of these people who wear 800 euros and more on their skin in the actual real life. These people primarily exist on the web, where they belong in the same bin with every other cancerous social media clown and influencer, or they walk around big festivals to get photographed (but never actually engage with anyone or pay attention to the music). I feel most of these "goff" people who are sponsor for some brand are just some regular alt chicks who realized that selling themselves as rebellious, edgy person makes them somehow different (and thus more authentic) than the hundred other people who do the same, but for some "normie" brand. Then there are the few cases where people from the scene did become greedy and partake in this shit. But right now there is a nice backlash against it, so it#s not like everyone is okay with it. In fact, people have been arguing a long time that it#s not a fashion contest.
Most people at goth (and adjacent) events, club nights and concerts are piss poor or know to spend their money for more important things. If they wear that awful blunder then they usually buy it secondhand. And considering how the scene is slowly falling to gentrification, many don't even dress up anymore, and that's totally okay. It's only in web communities that people get so uptight and act like assholes. Which isn't so surprising, but that's also why I really recommend to get outside more and leave the internet for some time. Ever since I started to go out more again, meeting real people and reducing my online presence to a bare minimum, I have been much happier.
Anyway, my stupid cents on this topic, since it seems to have made some big waves online. And I am glad it does. I think the same can and should be applied to any music scene, culture or just society in general; one doesn't need to worship some fucking brand to feel better about themselves and looks aren't everything. Sadly people give influencers way too much credit, even when they know that these people are paid by companies to sell their trash and will base their entire self worth on some criteria tailored by the folks that run good old capitalism.

VESSMIER reacted to Karma’s Hat in YOHIO new single "「My Nocturnal Serenade」" release
I think it’s about time to employ a straight to the bin philosophy on western vk on this board. It’s shit and largely irrelevant and everyone other the one person making all these yohio accounts knows it. It might’ve been exciting seven or six years ago when we didn’t know where it could go, but I think it’s already pretty decisively proven that all these bands outside of Japan are not going anywhere commercially or artistically, and even gossipping about these idiots is giving them the attention which they’ve done nothing to deserve.

VESSMIER reacted to JRD in Show Yourself (again)
Well, you can see that if you've seen my pictures before, that I've changed my overall appearance. I like playing with make-up, I do wear it to work and I let them know if they fuck with me, I have HR on speed dial and HR said I can wear makeup to work, no one cares though that I wear makeup sometimes; so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

VESSMIER reacted to CAT5 in random thoughts thread
ahahaha, I should have made it clear that I was talking about hip-hop (and to some extent, popular so-called "black" music in general, but meh). I seen pitchfork promoting some rapper called "XANMAN" on like some "MUST HEAR" type shit, and that shit is just depressing, bruh. I mean, first of all, dude named himself after XANAX, so you already know what tip he's on. But to make things worse, dude is just straight up TRASH. He ain't talkin' bout' shit. He has no actual rapping skill. And dude can't even stay on beat. It was some of the sloppiest shit i've heard. If you're gonna be on some bullshit, AT LEAST make it sound good! 🤣 I was just legit shocked that ANYONE would promote that crap.
But I'm just venting, bruh. There's nothing empowering or redemptive about hip hop in general atm, but at the same time, hip hop isn't the only issue. The real issues are much deeper and more complicated, and the state of hip-hop is just one manifestation of those deeper issues. It's just one cog in the grand machine of decay. Just one portion of the negative feedback loop that we so-called African Americans are stuck in atm.

VESSMIER reacted to LIDL in Dir en grey
There should be a tribute to DEG album at this point. They have been around for a long time now. I really enjoyed the cover songs that was done on those Crush! 90s V-Rock albums. Merry, Mejibray, and R-Shitei did something on DEG songs.
They need to do it some times, maybe in their 25th anniv or something.
Also, hope they would release some kind of boxset for Gauze this year, since it will be 20th anniv of the album release.

I’d be okay with Jens Bogren mixing a full DEG album.
I’ve come to like the raw sound of TIW, but my main issue is that Toshiya and Shinya are somehow up front and buried at the same time. For my money the worst sounding album is Kisou, though.

VESSMIER reacted to Ro plz in Dir en grey
TIW is def getting a budokan show. I don't even know why that's even up for debate. Dir's schedules are so unpredictable at this point so its almost impossible to predict whats gonna come before then, whether its more music or touring. As for the Budokan shows, the last one I legitimately enjoyed was DSS night 1. Maybe I'm wrong but that specific venue hasnt suited the live stuff they've done post Uroboros well. The instruments, mixed with the setlist selections and overall energy the guys are radiating has to do with it.
I will give credit to specific performances on the ARCHE budokan lives though...

VESSMIER reacted to Jigsaw9 in best jrock cd cover
For some reason I'm really attracted to stylish/stylized covers featuring only band members so here's a batch reflecting that.
BUCK-TICK - 悪の華
BOØWY - BEAT EMOTION
Laputa - 私が消える
Madeth gray'll - Lucifer ~魔境に映る呪われた罪人達と生命の終焉~
SOFT BALLET - DOCUMENT
Might come back here later and make another post with my fave pieces of artwork not featuring actual musicians, lol.

Really always enjoyed Moran's single/album covers. I love their L'oiseau blue single and their All Time Best album covers.
Also thought of Kagrra's last album. Beautiful and enticing to look at its duality theme (between the two different versions).
