  1. This band always has the tendency for every other album to be utter garbage. Disorder? Did not care for. It sounded disorganized and messy, like they attempted everything and got nowhere with any of it. I thought NIL was good, a step up from Disorder but a little on the boring side with some of their songs (and SILLY GOD DISCO >.>). Then Stacked Rubbish was eponymous and DIM was fantastic. It's about that time for another shit album.

  2. Somehow I feel like this new mini is going to blow. They've been releasing things way too fast. I'll leave my mind open to it being a good mini but personally I think it's going to be two or three good tracks and a bunch of filler. That's just my hunch but I never play my hunches and they always end up being somewhat accurate.

  3. I used to be a fan of this band, but they lost me after a while. They have a few good songs but they're ruined by Jyou's vocals up until the KNIFE single. Their new album is also disappointing. It's like ALSDEAD (album), except less crappy.

  4. Guys, it's ROUGE xD. We keep confusing it with ROGUE (which is a better title but still).

I liked it although as others have stated there was no standout track. Everything was equally as good but nothing totally blew me away. There was no equivalent to LAST SHELL or DETOX or BREATHE TREES. Still, I take this as a more consistent experience as an album then VERSUS was. I can tell apart the tracks and the middle of the album doesn't blend together. some of the tracks also include elements that I don't hear -OZ- use often, such as the beat in the background of Sky High or the piano at the beginning of Strings.

I'm still torn as to which one I like more.

  5. I liked Sky High, but I don't know about Rotate, the guitar was annoying and sounded like shit in the beginning riff which just completely ruins the song for me, it kind of got better at the pick-up verse but I don't know, Natsuki should stop writing songs, so Tama can.

Also Natsuki has horrible English, lol.

Guitar sounds like shit because it sounds like the person that uploaded it recorded it with a microphone and then uploaded it to YouTube. It definitely sounds like Rotate was recorded in mono. I refuse to believe -OZ-'s recording quality has fallen that far.

Still though, songs are sounding good.

  6. Not as fast as doze 8D.

In all truthfulness though, I no longer take musical differences as an excuse unless I can audibly hear the change in direction the band has taken over a few releases. DISQLOC. had ONE. How could you have musical differences when you damn well released near nothing? Why form a band in the first place?

  7. Quit being nice. I wanted a slapfight > : (

    *slap*

As some other people here have mentioned explicitly, finding a top 10 list of bands that were around for less than 2 years is difficult because a good chunk of these bands that disbanded under two years aren't very good. I think a top 5 list would be very challenging. Anyway, here's my list.

    1) tosinn - I place these guys up here because they are the most solid band I know that disbanded under two years. I don't know why they did but if they didn't we wouldn't have cocklobin so I guess I cannot be too upset. They still were pretty good but a little hard to get into.

    2) GULLET - Even though precious kitty thought they were generic I enjoyed them. Once again, if they were still around we wouldn't have 9GBO so I can't be upset that they're gone now. Also pretty good, but I'd put tosinn first anyday.

    3) HEARTLESS - I actually tie these guys with GULLET but I personally like GULLET more so they come third. They had two years so they weren't terribly inventive, but they certainly weren't terrible. They did an overdone style well and the vocalist was talented. I wonder where they're all going now.

    4) Black:List - They make the list solely because of Kyotaro + TOMOZO. At this point, Kyotaro could do harsh vocals well and he didn't sound like he was coughing up a lung when he was singing (hi pre-illational THE EIGHT) and TOMOZO is just a solid guitarist and was part of SULFURIC ACID, which was also a pretty decent to good band. The first incarnation of the band with RYO as vocalist was just "alright" but neither era did much to differentiate them from every other loud kei band. They never got an identity of their own and that's why I put them at number four.

    5) CoЯe The Child - Like UnsraW but better in some respects. Yuuki's growls were better here but his singing wasn't top notch and I personally like the variation CTC brings to their music (when listening to UnsraW I get the feeling of heavy, heavy, heavier, o look obligatory ballad, moar heavy) but...the four bands above are just better than them in my book so they get number five.

  8. The Rudie Satan Park: over hyped bad to mediocre VK. People only like them because they're heavy and full of screams and that doesn't make it good music. The vocalist, while OK at screaming, positively rapes my ears with his singing. Please, gtfo.

    Darty Drop: LOL. Next.

Le'veil: Le'veil is to D'espairsRay what La:Sadie's is to Dir en grey - no one would care about them if it weren't for what they became. As they are, they aren't bad but they aren't special. They're decidedly average and deserve no spot on a top 10.

I would really like to ask why you haven't considered GULLET, tosinn, or gossip for any of those positions.

GULLET was generic as shit. I don't understand the love for them.

gossip was pretty terrible, too. Outside of hiro's voice, there was nothing that made them stand out.

Well I'm just assuming certain things about his taste in music based off of what he's posted in various threads and in this one. Maybe that isn't right but it's the only way for me to ask questions and get answers. I'm throwing out some of the more popular bands of the last few years that weren't included on that list and I'm asking him why those weren't considered when compared to some of the bands on his list that I personally find unlistenable. Sure, not everyone's going to like the same things but not seeing the staple GULLET, tosinn, gossip or Heartless answers really intrigued me.

So I decided to ask :)

Honestly though I'm no expert on this subject. I skipped over the whole "BE ENAMORED WITH RARE KVLT INDIE BANDS" phase and jumped right to the cynicism.

  10. Wintersun is good. Just had to plug that in for them.

Anyway, it's good to see that they're getting ready to put out something else. I'm glad they're taking their time with their music *coughcoughincomparisontoVKBANDScoughcough* when it comes to crafting, recording and releasing material. I'm awaiting a better vocal performance from Annette and just a more cohesive unit as a whole. Now that they've had time to bond I think they can be a more tight knit group than they were with Tarja.

Also must second Mono2's comment on Tarja. When she didn't have as much power behind her voice (Angels Fall First and Oceanborn) the band was very enjoyable. Then around Wishmaster - Once she started to pack power with her voice and instead of meshing with the band she just...floated on top of them. There were very few songs where her vocals actually fit well with the music. I don't actually mind Annette at all. Her voice isn't as bombastic as Tarja's so old school fans aren't used to vocals and music meshing together (which is probably what they describe as poppy) but we gave her time so now she has to show us she's improved a lot. I heard her vocal range is now a soprano so maybe we're in for some surprises this album.

  11. Came across them when someone uploaded Abnormal Head Machine over on old new TW. Said it was an awesome release, downloaded it and...loathed every minute of it. Regardless of that, gave them another chance and they eventually won me over with felony and RED HOT COBRA.

  12. -rebooting this topic-

I literally JUST noticed this and I haven't seen it anywhere else but:

    album_lynch_shadows_00.jpg

Towards the back of the bird, where the wings meet if you use a bit of imagination you can see a drawing of the band playing on it's back. Guitarist, Hazuki, then Asanao, then the other guitarist on the other wing. It might take a bit of staring but that's definitely there.

2 for 2 in my quest to analyze Japanese Rock album covers for cool stuff.

Also, JUDGEMENT single was good. Obligatory fangasming here.

  13. It's quite a shame these guys disbanded, though I guess it was inevitable with one of them moving and another taking a teaching position. Was hoping they'd get one more album out.

  14. Well on-topic: That information isn't "new" because I do remember seeing it around the time that Jasmine was first announced dead. I still don't know where they got their facts from - it's the only site that I've seen that talks about Yokohama off the top of my head. tbh though it doesn't give that much information.

  15. At first I was shocked by this news and automatically assumed that the worst would happen, but since it seems like a genuine hiatus I guess it isn't so bad after all. They better come back with plans for an album in mind - it's been two years. It's time.
