  1. What do I mean by respect? Why the dictionary definition of course!

I respect what the artists have accomplished thus far. With the exception of EROS they haven't made a bad song. The members are good performers, the lyrics are interesting and well-written and the compositions are pretty good. ROYAL ORDER was a fucking beast of an album. They're one of the few NVK acts worth checking out.

  2. Let's put this into perspective so I don't have to keep reading the same shit over and over again.

Dir en grey were formed in 1997. Dir en grey released Withering to death. in 2006. That's a 9 year span where a good chunk of the current fanbase were oblivious to the existence of Dir en grey.

Most of these new fans are unaware of the fact that they were a Visual Kei band, or what Visual Kei is, or that albums before VULGAR exist, or even what any of the members names are except for Kyo. Most of the fans jumped on the bandwagon mainly because they're Japanese and "different", not because of the music (as a matter of fact I recall you saying this in another thread). I can go up to a fan and say "name me the first five songs on Uroboros" and they wouldn't know a single one. Dir en grey is an overvalued band because a good portion of the fanbase don't appreciate most of the catalog of the band, yet proclaim that they are the best metal outfit on the planet and slurp on their cocks so hard they might snap.

Now before you get your panties in a twist, I didn't say they sucked. I said they're overvalued. They get far more praise than they deserve for what it is they have accomplished. They've stayed together for 10 years - impressive but doesn't speak volumes about their music. They haven't reinvented the genre or pioneered a new one. They bend genres well, but they aren't the only ones that do it. They are good composers, but they aren't legendary and don't create moving masterpiece after moving masterpiece. Kyo is a good vocalist but Mike Patton did all that first. They are a good band and they create enjoyable music, but that's where the line should be drawn.

Now seriously will, chill. Every time someone mentions Dir en grey and a slightly negative comment you throw a shitfit.

  3. No you're still gay. I'm gay too.

He means all the people that were here before tw.net came about, not all the people that were on tw.net that came here.

  4. ^ I think you mean PS COMPANY, unless you've got a thing against computers...

Also, I can't hate a label. The label hardly does anything. It's usually the band's choice to change their style up, unless you think that labels forced Dir en grey to play "AMERIKUN METALLL" to appeal to a wider crowd and four albums later they're still doing it because they're forced to, not because they want to.

  5. I'm just going back on an anime kick again. I went through the first season of Ghost in the Shell: S.A.C. in three days and I'm already on 2nd GIG. After this I'm probably going to watch Solid State Society, the original movie and then Innocence and get everything Ghost in the Shell related out of the way at once.

I'm a huge Ghost in the Shell whore if you didn't know. I'd kill babies for a third season.

  6. What I meant by that is they intend on releasing 3 songs so type A is just the title track, type B is title + B-side, type C is title + another B-side.

Actually it'd make more sense for them to throw two songs on the regular edition and then the first and third song on the other two editions with the DVD to differentiate them. Then you HAVE to buy all three to get everything, instead of just the two limited ones. That way they make more money.

  7. No that happened to me. It was actually Gen that introduced me to them when I asked her for new music I didn't listen to. She even warned me that they had to grow on me which is why I threw up a warning when I upped Hymn to the Immortal Wind. I think one day I was depressed and mellow and didn't have the energy to listen to heavy stuff so I threw them on since I found them boring and then they rocked my eardrums. That's when I was like "oh crap, this shit is awesome"! They also happened to put me in a good mood too so that was two good things that happened there.

But yeah, I can't just put them on when I'm doing whatever. Totally agreed on that point.

  8. They're trying to be like their idols Linkin Park and take the soft direction.

The only difference is that Linkin Park was out of the scene for four years and the fans that initially sympathized with their lyrics of alienation and misunderstanding moved on, got laid and saw the sunlight. If they came back with a record that was Meteora 2.0 (which was really just Hybrid Theory 2.0) they'd flop. They HAD to change. Girugamesh didn't. Everyone was fine with their s/t direction (which I found a little dull, but stay with me) and the transition to MUSIC was awkward but it wasn't their sound change that was bad as much as it was their dull song writing. Kodou and puzzle proved that they were still heavy even if they dumped a bucket of synth over Ryo's stale guitar lines. They didn't go full on pop until COLORS but by that time we all expected it anyway. The transition was sudden and probably can be attributed more to wanting to appeal to a larger crowd (which is why they also ditched the visuals and went for a boy band look) instead of trying to find a new one.

I guess they want revenge for all the ramen they had to ingest during their Jelato-era XD.

  9. 7/10.

My rating is given on the basis that the intro was lame (as all intros are) and that the quality of the songs aren't what I'm accustomed to from BORN. Most of their releases beforehand were two or three songs and each were of higher quality. Here, they broke up what is essentially an album of songs into three mini's and these songs, which while still good, can be a lot better. I get a sense of laziness out of MY SWEET BLACK and more Deep that screams "hey we could make this a lot better but what the hell? it's fine as is". Considering that there were only three new songs on this release that's a little suspicious. I would also call the re-recording of Ruisai no Hana "lazy" as well but it's such an astronomical improvement over the -A.H.M.- version that I'll leave it be. I'd call Sasabari C the best song off this mini.

BORN can do better. They proved it with felony, COBRA and RADICAL HYSTERIA.

  10. ^ Yeah, probably.

I don't follow them anymore after COLOR but I must comment on that picture - it's horrible. They look like a boy band now. Tracklist sounded promising for like four seconds. Then I woke up, realized they haven't done anything decent since Volcano and kept moving.

  11. nightmare... coz.... have no specific reason but, i don't like it.

Your reason is just like their music: generic. They have nothing about them that says "hey, listen to us". I only remember them as that really hideous band I had to sit through before I earned the right to watch Death Note.
