geist got a reaction from YuyoDrift in Post your "UNPOPULAR" music opinions!
This might be unpopular; but I really really really really like the Pillows. Even their newer stuff, not just the old stuff I have some nostalgia for. They were the first band that got me into J-Rock (through FLCL, obv) and I've never really stopped listening to them since then.
Perhaps a big part of my love for them is because of nostalgia, because whenever I hear their music I get feelings of longing for days gone by.

geist got a reaction from setsuha_ in Laputa
Laputa was a Japanese nagoya kei rock band, active from 1993 to 2004. The band chose its name from the flying island in Gulliver's Travels and tried to portray a similar unrealistic view of the world with their performance. Their 1997 album Emadera was named one of the top albums from 1989-1998 in a 2004 issue of the music magazine Band Yarouze.
I had never heard of these guys before and stumbled across them after listening to Dir en grey's "Ash" and their song "舌" was queued afterwards. What is everyone's thoughts on this band? Like them? Hate them? Favorite releases? They seem pretty interesting and I was looking to check them out later!

This, tbh. Cassis is the perfect ballad and is one of the best I’ve heard VK or otherwise. It’s got an easy and memorable chord progression, great solo, great vocals, tremendously catchy, and I can’t think of any other ballad by this band that can even hold a candle to Cassis.
I expect a lot of the Cassis “hate” comes from the fact we’ve all heard it so many times in the ~12 years it’s been out; but the fact we still talk about it, obsess over it, or complain about it to this day is due to its longevity.
Ive heard a rumor years ago from a friend that knew more about the gazettE than I do that Ruki hates performing Cassis. Is that true?

Really cassis is their greatest ballad lol
Cassis is good but they have lots of better ballad songs.

Calm envy
Try to be fair guys for just one time. All their ballads get u right into the mood of the song. Like u are in another world.
And thank u I always thought acoustic means using only an acoustic guitar. Cause all acoustic versions I've seen till now were like that. Still think they have the greatest ballads. Well ((((in my opinion))). Better than lots of other bands out there.
Sometimes I feel like people here only to say negative things about gazette.

1. Start with Kodou
2. Ask yourself "Do I want something heavier, or lighter?"
3. The Former: listen to Withering to Death - Arche
4. The Latter: listen to Missa - Vulgar
When I first started listening to the band, roughly when Withering to Death came out, I didn't listen to their older material until YEARS later. That also probably explains why I'm not really fond of their older releases compared to everything they've done from W2D and on.

If you're talking about Sadie's Mao, he's also involved in the band THE THIRTEEN.

Comparing Kyo and his fanboy Mao is still funny in 2018? Nice then.

Why do people who don't care always have to make sure everybody knows that they don't care? 🤔

Dogma is a masterpiece
Metalcore + gazette = one of my dreams came true I've always wanted them to be a metalcore band.
It has many great tracks like ( dogma. Lucy. Ominous. Blemish. Deux. Deracine)

Actually I like most of their albums ♡ so it's really hard to decide. My favorite album are.
1- dogma
2- Dim
3- stacked rubbish
4- disorder
5-cockayne soup
It seems like everyone is forgetting about their song ( おくり火) okuribi
I dunno why. But imo it's really a great song.

Even though I’m sick of core-influenced metal with synths, and have been for years, I find the GazettE to be a guilty pleasure I’ve stuck with since DIM and have been enjoying them more and more as time goes by. They’re fun. Yeah, so they recycle riffs occasionally (I think it largely works); but their sound is distinct, so listening to them feels like a refreshing and enjoyable experience.
The one thing I love about core-influenced metal is the gnarly down-tuned chugging, especially when it gets technical, and I think GazettE does an awesome job with that. Their songwriting seems to have improved as well with their guitar riffs being far more “substantive” than the old days of Discharge and Headache Man, no doubt a result of their developing western-metal influences.

The only thing I can really say negative about this tune other than the intro is the band’s reliance on that specific half-step chord progression they play in legitimately every single heavy song they’ve ever done. At 43 seconds in the song it’s as clear as day as the band strums (I believe) G-F#. It’s a staple in most Gazette songs which indicates a lack of originality; but here they play it in a way where at least it’s not 100% identical to the rest of their output, maybe just 90% identical.
A lot of bands, especially Western metal core bands like Bring Me the Horizon have used that progression before, but I’ve never seen a band rely on it so much as this band.

I think I'm starting to look forward to Ash just by virtue of it pissing everyone here off.
Years ago, when the Hageshisa single was released, I wanted a Kiri to Mayu remake because I knew how good that song could be with their new sound, and I think that will be the case for Ash as well. If you don't like Metal, you're not going to like this.
