I don't remember ever doing an introduction here but since I don't expect to be remembered well at all after a lengthy disappearance, I decided now was as fine a time as any. I suppose this is a "I'm back!" announcement too but that seems arrogant. U-um...

I'm SUBLIMINAL. Known to friends as Lorena. I joined the forums when I was a newborn baby and I'm twenty-seven now so thanks for raising me well, Monochrome Heaven-senpai.

I mean if anyone remembers me, it would probably be because I never shut up about D'espairsRay. I don't really do that anymore omg. I don't listen to visual kei at all anymore, actually, but I have a big, squishy soft spot for old favourites and still keep up with them. Mostly. Aside from once upon a time being the most annoying D'espairsRay fan to ever live, I love(d?) Plastic Tree equally but that wasn't as noticable. These days I still tend to prefer pop, folk and as usual bizarro metal music.

Anyway, I had a habit of vanishing every so often due to real life drama even when I was active here but my last disappearance was the longest, I think. It was very necessary though! I learned a lot about myself and grew as a person. I live in Scotland now, instead of England, with my SO and I'm happier and more active than ever! I wanted to check and come back here because well... to put it pathetically plainly, this was the only forum in my internet lifetime that I ever felt comfortable and welcomed at. It was once one of my regular haunts online and I miss that, so... hello, whoever reads this. Hello. Again.

tl;dr I was gone for years for personal reasons, I came creeping back.

Yeah I've come across people like that, "japanese artists are way more talented" or "k-pop is so much cooler than shitty western boy groups". Those statements usually come from hardcore weeabos or koreabos and are nothing but ignorance imo.  Once I met this korean guy and asked what he thinks of Shinee, he said they're annoying and their music is rubbish. That's how I feel about most western boy groups (One direction,etc.). I would even say Shinee is the korean equivalent of One Direction...wait, don't beat me up yet. It's hard to deny the amount of production and stuff that goes into k-pop that makes it more entertaining than western boy bands, but at the end of the day, theyre just one of countless boy bands. Over there, they are probably nothing special, just like one direction is nothing special to most people in the west. Anyway, I think i'm trying to saying Idolising something just because it's from X country and thinking it's superior is a bit eh.

Considering that the PV for Saishuu Densha was basically pornographic, and even the pixelated version was taken down by YouTube, it'll be interesting to see what they have in store next. On the one hand it was refreshing to see something so unashamedly sexual, but on the other hand I don't want the new album to be half jazz songs again.

Yeah people dismiss the music a lot here too just because it's Japanese. I'm just like "so what if you can't understand it" you know.. I find it so strange because Japan is filled with so many talented musicians and bands but all of it goes over their heads for such petty reasons. I think it's mostly because they're not used to it though. As for visual kei the language barrier or racism is not the only issue here. We are a vast minority not just as Japanese music fans but also as visual kei fans because so many people will say things like "Those are guys?!" or "Fags!" and it's pretty ridiculous and ignorant. Most anime music fans I know wouldn't like visual kei, unless it's Nightmare or other VK bands who appeared in anime intros / outros.

As for the language barrier issue: Music is much more than lyrics. Lyrics give a song meaning, but the sound is ultimately what makes the song and because of this dismissing a song because of lyrics is absurd. If you listen to mainstream pop or rap music on the radio the lyrics are 90% vapid meaningless lyrics that are repeated over and over again. Sometimes the lyrics don't even make any sense too and these people just want a 'beat' to listen to, so I don't understand why someone would dismiss Japanese music based on lyrics when the sound can make up so much for that lack of understanding.

I recorded video at a MUCC gig back in 2009, and I've watched it every year since at least once.
I think both sides here are just trying to enforce their view without taking the other side into regard "I can't understand why someone would want to do X" or "As a fan I'm entitled to Y", seems to some to be valid arguments for some?
Video recordings are a great memory of a show, not only for yourself but for future preservation and for everyone who unfortunately were unable to attend - you are basically doing a lot of people a service, and I think some (not all) who record and might sacrifice some of their own enjoyment see it this way.
I find a staggering hypocrisy in a lot of people in such as that they hate on people for recording, but then go on Youtube and view the videos themselves when given a chance.
A lot of my all time favorite live videos to watch would not exist if there weren't fans who had taken their time to make them.

Most of the annoyance seems to come from letting people just stand around anywhere with their phones etc. and I agree, there needs to be some kind of rules in regards to that, but rather than a total ban just do what a lot of video-friendly bands already do, have a designated area in the back (say, along the wall or the last fourth of the hall or so) where people are allowed to film. Bands are missing out on marketing and often high quality material that are essentially completely free of production costs and does not require any work on their part. Most fans would not use "There are live videos on Youtube" as an excuse of not attending a concert themselves, and it wouldn't compete with CD sales either (although they already form only a small part of an artists revenue).

    I have someone who can buy them for me before I get there. I don't think it will sell out, so I will wait until I get there. All the bands I wanna see live are touring in June or August, but nothing in July. So if I have the luck to see xaa-xaa that will be something ;-;

after hearing the preview, I'm looking forward to the B-sides more.

I think it's a great rule to have. There's nothing worse than going to a gig where hundreds of people in front of you have their phone out, recording, taking pictures, some even on facebook. The band came all the way to your country and all you care about is looking at your phone? That's what I always think about people who have it out for the whole hour and a half.  Youre recording all these videos you probably won't watch ever again, let's be honest.

One time when I went to see Miyavi, this douchelord kept filming his girlfriend for most of the gig, she was dancing to the songs and they were making people open space so he could film her. I'm sorry but... that's ridiculous.  When I went to see this other band, this girl was on facebook and instagram the whole time posting about it, instead of enjoying it. Call me a hippie, but events become a lot more enjoyable without a cellphone or whatever , since some people just don't have any knowledge of common courtesy. Whether you accept it or not, when someone has their phone out it's so hard to not keep glancing at the screen because our eyes are naturally attracted to it.  If a band asks for no pictures, it's not gonna kill me as much as I want proof that I saw them ,etc. It's not that hard to just accept it. I don't have a god complex towards bands, but I'm very thankful that they managed to come to my country and perform.

Also, another reason I'm against it is because I'm 1.52m in height and it's already a struggle to see the stage in normal conditions, but when there's someone that's nearly 2m high in front of me and they block the only small square of vision I have with an ipad, then I can't see a thing.
    Of course, that's my problem.
