There are comments on their homepage announcement linked in the above tweet. As far as I can tell, Mikado, Machi, and Ral are all basically retiring?

I'm sorry for people who have had bad experiences with bangya. However, like any people, there's as many good as there are bad. It really depends on the band and the fans that they attract. Personally speaking, while I've had some bad experiences, overall I made a lot of wonderful friends and memories when I was living in Japan. Didn't matter if we liked the same band guy or not, and if anything it just gave us something to talk about. I've gone to eat with them, they've made me gifts, I helped to buy those flowers you see outside the lives sometimes - everyone's mileage will vary, but not all bangya are awful. Give it a try, and if the interaction isn't worth pursuing, then drop it. Simple as that. (I've honestly had more trouble with foreign fans than Japanese fan in this respect tbh.)

It's funny because I'd run into the members of Zigzag like a year ago passing out fliers and they seemed pretty cool, but I never thought much of them. Then I forgot all about them until I saw this thread and realized I was seeing them at a taiban live.
 
I gotta say, the hype is worth. I ended up having a lot of fun. It was engaging, funny, and I actually really dug the music. The singer honestly reminded me of Isshi from Kagrra, so I got all nostalgic at the end and ended up buying a CD. Pretty bummed I'm leaving Japan for awhile soon or I'd definitely give them another go.

For an (apparently) untrained singer, I think Tsuzuku can hold his own most of the times. Meji songs do plow through Fry/Growl/Pig Squeal in a not so usual manner, and that is definitely not an easy thing to do people may take for granted.
 
On the list of people that suck, the dude of Lycaon, the one from Azero (who is the worst in the whole world), that one from LIEVRE CLAY, u from KLACK, the one from the:0 and NEOPHILIA's are some of the ones on my mind.
 
And anyone who says Sakurai is bad should get their hearing checked. That guy is a monster, and not liking one's tone does not equal to one having bad skills

But it's a good sign that fans don't see really bad changes or something and enjoy the lives~ 

A new line of cabbage-based side dish called Yoshikimchi. 

The lives have still been super fun. But there have been no MCs or encores for the duration of this tour. I'm not super in the know or anything, but it feels like it's less about them being over Mejibray and more about some management issue behind the scenes. Anyone else getting that vibe?

I hope they don't do this for the entire duration of the tour, but it's starting to look like that's the way it's going down. Wouldn't be surprised if they kept it going until their Akasaka show at this point. I can't say for sure (obviously), but I get the feeling they're doing it to make a statement - they're not really giving the impression of being happy or relieved about this hiatus.

Heresy! Encores are an integral part of setlist planning. I say this as someone who have spent way too much time writing setlists for bands I like. They can provide a necessary break to not cause an abrupt break in the flow between styles (see Dir en grey doing their Marrow of a bone tour busting out MISSA material during the encore), as a way to build tension and expectation and to just allow the band a chance to breathe so they can have energy to squeeze out a few more tracks instead of perform a measly 15 songs.

Also as far as activities yeah, there's still the rest of the Hangman tour, the newly announced three stop mobile member tour, and one live event they are signed on for in October. I guess we will see at the end of Hangman whether the mobile member tour is their last one man tour before the hiatus.

can't help but feel that this whole debate is much ado about nothing 
 
if you're living in japan and regularly go to lives then you're entitled to give your opinion on their lives. if you're an international fan who voraciously gobbles up all their releases (legally or not) then you're entitled to evaluate the quality of their recorded music. the problem only arises when this discussion bleeds into the neighboring terrain of 'how does one objectively judge a band's quality?' or 'what's the proper way of enjoying a band?'--which never fails to generate 5 pages of same old thing that impresses no one in particular...
 
then there's the question of how much instrumental value you are actually of to the band, which is related but entirely separable from the first. it's def true that the actual impact of someone ordering a 3000 yen album from CDJapan on the band is probably a lot less than they think, but that doesn't reduce the weight of their opinion on the band's recorded music. critics all over the world are paid to do exactly that: to give their opinions while remaining pretty much monetarily irrelevant.

Ah, my response was mostly to "don't release it on CD then". Unfortunately, as its been pointed out already, most fans don't get into a band through randomly seeing them live (because it's expensive or inaccessible), so bands have to rely on CD or digital releases to reach more potential fans (that hopefully will go see them live one day), even if they're not a band that's strong when it comes to physical releases.
 
I don't think it's wrong to critique or bring up those shortcomings of that band. I just don't think CD/digital releases should be the sole factor in judging whether a band is "good" or "bad".
 
 
I somewhat disagree. To be frank, visual kei, like most art in Japan, is not made for the international community or international recognition. I mean, you are free to your opinion, but I don't see why a band should be judged on the basis of not appealing to a fanbase they were never trying to appeal to, if that makes sense.
