Their latest single A-side is actually pretty kickass! I'm saying this as someone who only followed them for their first few releases, and caught up with them only recently. Completely different than the old stuff tho.

I'll be always grateful to vk artists for allowing me to discover the post punk scene while introducing some of their most memorable artists and works.

I have the same opinion of yours, and also feel the same way respect the vk scene nowadays. Original VK (even when it wasn't called that way) imported the same "ethos" of post punk; thus the classics acts still sound fresh and genuine despite having 20 or 30+ years old, and in the other hand, newer acts can only become more and more industrialized, to the point of looking ridiculous when looking for the attention of kogal and young girls obssesed with anime and game characters. So VK as a canal of true artistic expression, with its charge of social inconformism, like post punk was, is pretty much dead.

Thanks for your words. I try my best to ignore his hurting behavior but it gets me every time as soon as I'm back home ... I will talk to my supervisor for sure if he won't stop with that, but I have to wait because he won't be at work for the next few days ... meanwhile I just hope it won't get worse

I totally feel you... most people live up for spread their ignorance and hate towards who they don't think to be suitable for them... It's a fucking damned plague... I can only say to not care about their silly words and to go on, with your head held high, but if they go beyond the jokes, then you have to react, not aggressively, as is what they expect from you, but with conscience, talking with someone who can legally help you getting out from this situation...

I've been a fan of VK since I was 15. I'm 31 now and have seen it shift and adapt to the times. I don't think it'll ever fully die. Unfortunately there aren't as many bands I care about, and all the ones I do are ones long since disbanded.

@Ito I have actually seen people on FB/TW say that they haven’t joined here because they don’t get how message boards work. This being an antiquated platform isn’t a fabrication on your part: the kiddies would rather use discord or twitch than a forum because that makes more sense to them.

While I pretty much agree with everything already said, one major thing I think is getting over looked - do the kids even know what the fuck a forum is?

That's a bit extreme, but it's hardly an exaggeration to say that social media has mostly killed off forums in general. Back in the early days of MH/TW, and hell, even before it, forums were -the- way to have an online community for a specific thing. Social media has largely changed that, for better or worse. Honestly, the fact that MH is still around given how forums have mostly died off is kind of amazing to me.

Even if interest in VK and Jrock abroad had never decided, I still think forum usage would have a steep drop off.  And we're no where near that peak interest. I truly think Kpop had taken the mindshare that VK used to hold. I'm not talking for hardcore fans, but for all the casuals. I'll not going to get in to it deep here, but I know at Anime cons every Jrock vendor has been replaced by Kpop ones.

To be totally frank, I expect MH to die some day. The fact that this place has lasted a decade blows me away. But with the current trajectory of VK and the internet, I just don't see this place lasting another decade. And that's ok. While the idea bums me the fuck out, when this place does burn out, that doesn't erase everything that has happened here. All of that said, I'm not wishing the end comes any time soon and I hope that some day we can be celebrating the forum's 20th anniversary.

I also agree with KyattoFaibu. I've almost left the VK scene exclusively for the fact that the fanbase as a whole can seem rather toxic. It's very competitive and with the heavy rotation of new bands all the time, it just gets old with people shutting them all down in any way that they can. It pushes people away I think from even wanting to interact. I have a good 3-4 friends that have accounts here but don't bother being active because people tend to be overly opinionated and hold their opinion high and truest instead of just focusing on what they like and connected with the people who like those things. I don't like Mejibray and I never have and never will, but I wouldn't go around posting something insulting about them any chance i could on a new release, new look, or general news about them. I don't like them so i just don't care and I'm not going to discourage someone from liking them if that's what they choose to like. And yeah some will say in defense you shouldn't worry about what others say and if they don't like it don't be on the site... well there you go... people don't like it so they're not being on the site. What did people expect. These are just a few small examples, but i agree with pretty much every point CAT5 made.

Ada Suilen got a reaction from CAT5 in This place is dying slowly, isn't it?
@CAT5  I completely agree with your statement Cat, this toxic approach afflicts all the fandoms in the world and it's lame to be blamed or targeted because you tell something differently than others. I joined this forum precisely for escaping all the guys I met who had something to say because I listen currently to Japanese music more than current Summer hits (ignorants...) so I wouldn't want to see this situation because you like something more than another...
DE GUSTIBUS NON DISPUTANTUR told someone named Cicero... and I think that the opinions are subjective and subjectivity is what makes us unique and individual in this wide world. So we should learn to get in agree with our vibes and make this community even better. It's only a personal hope of course...
  17. Thanks
Ada Suilen reacted to CAT5 in This place is dying slowly, isn't it?
I agree with all the reasons mentioned above. The state of MH is affected by a multitude of factors. The state of filesharing, the state of the VK scene, the season, aging fanbase, and so on.

However, one thing I've noticed that has had a serious effect on our community over the years - and something that rarely gets mentioned - are the individual attitudes of our members. Now no community is perfect, but I've noticed that there's a subset of users here who seem to pride themselves on being "bitchy" and "petty", and seem to have set their hearts on being divisive - the kind of users that would rather talk shit about other users than discuss music with them.

Most probably don't think of themselves as part of a community here, but the fact is - we're a community because we all have a common unity - J-rock and Visual Kei. So when you have users injecting divisive elements like the ones I just mentioned, it becomes cancerous to the community as a whole. I've seen users here continually hold other users in contempt for shit they did YEARS ago. I've seen users start shit with other users for no reason. I've seen users intentionally set out to "burn" other users just to seem "cool". I've seen users intentionally stalk and harass other members. I've seen A LOT being staff here for over a decade.

Hell, even I've been thrown under the bus by certain members here - and if anyone knows me, I've always strived to be as understanding, agreeable, and diplomatic as possible - as a staff member, fellow fan, and friend. But regardless, there are people who are purely intent on being divisive - even when you approach them with good intents. But for what? Who does that help? Who does that serve? It definitely doesn't help the community at all.

I can't tell you the amount of times people have come to me personally and explained how they want to participate here, but they're afraid of getting bitched at for having a different opinion, or attacked for any odd reason. Many people have left the community for these very reasons as well. I'm pretty sure some people get off on being an asshole or a "sassy bitch", but that shit ain't cool to people who just wanna come here to fellowship with other J-rock fans in peace. We all got lives outside of here (which are difficult enough as is), so the last thing any of us want to do is log on to see some GROWN-ASS ADULT with the maturity of an emotionally neglected 13 year old project their own misery on to others. That shit ain't it.

And yeah, lest anyone want to call me out as a hypocrite -  I READILY admit that I've played my part in the divisiveness and the nonsense in times past as well, and I take 110% responsibility for it. I'm not innocent either and I'll be THE FIRST to tell you that I ain't perfect. Far from it. But the point of this post is not to place blame on anyone or to call anyone out. It's simply to call awareness to the fact that we all contribute to the state of this community on an individual level as well. Our individual contributions have a resounding effect on the whole, like a ripple effect. As staff, we can enforce certain rules here. But we cannot dictate the attitudes of the members here. We can't dictate how you choose to interface with the community here. We cannot dictate the state of your heart. Nor would we want to do any of that.

I simply want to point out that the actions we take here, no matter how meaningless or miniscule they seem, DO have an effect. And based on those actions, the state of our community will either be tilted in a better direction or a worse direction. It's up to yall to decide.

I think that always few people are looking for quality in things in general... All the new bands coming out in the latest years try a formula which tires and lets impatient people to quit the scene... but few people like to look through the mass for finding a pearl and I hope that MH becomes the stronghold of these free minds... like me :-D

As for non VK, the new Nicki Minaj album, the new Sunmi EP, Koda Kumi's DNA album (which was a lot better than AND imo)...probably a few others I can't think of. 😂
