CAT5 9075 Posted January 24, 2016 I thought this might be an interesting thread. Some of us have been into Visual Kei & J-rock in general for so long that we're familiar with what many others might consider favorites of the previous decade, but now that we're well into the 2010's - which albums have been your all-time favorites so far? Those albums that have aged well with you, the ones that you can put on without skipping a track? 7 tetsu_sama69, ghost, hiroki and 4 others reacted to this
blackdoll 907 Posted January 24, 2016 the ones that you can put on without skipping a track? that cuts it down for me Lycaon - Royal order, Uso to onna to, Masochist red circus, camera obscura, Grieva - Shuuen other albums haven't aged with me, and or i could live without-- meaning the connection wasnt strong 1 CAT5 reacted to this
violetchain 912 Posted January 24, 2016 Good Morning America - Mirai e no Spiral (2013) Their first full album, released after 10+ years of playing together both in GMA and the emo band they were in before. Every song is catchy and memorable. I think I've sent about half of the tracks from this album in my mixes for the MH tradeoffs, I like it so much. Suck a Stew Dry - Loveless Letter (2012) This is a mini-album, but I like it better than Jibun Senki. You get Kosei at the peak of his awkward phase, and there's just such a sweet, gentle feel to all of the songs. Nothing's Carved In Stone - echo (2011) Some of the songs on Silver Sun stand out more, but I think echo has a really cool overall feel when you listen to it together. Still kind of bitter that they didn't do a live DVD for it. NOA - picture diary (2013) picture diary is the first album where one of NOA's singers started using Japanese lyrics, and it makes the songs really start to sound like they're by two completely different bands. I really love that aspect of it. Their styles are so different, and it's right on the edge of sounding like they should just start solo projects and be done with it, but somehow it all still works together. The funny thing is, I was incredibly underwhelmed by 3/4 of these releases when I first heard them. It was only about a year later each time when they suddenly started to click with me. 1 CAT5 reacted to this
hiroki 5521 Posted January 24, 2016 even after excluding mini-albums and best albums, there are literally hundreds of post-2010 albums i can put on without skipping a track lol. if i'm to narrow them down to 20 (already very hard!) they will probably look something like this..? メガマソ - M of Beauty (2010)ギルド - GUILDED (2010)NEXX - cap:cell (2011) Para:noir - a 21g meaningless existence (2011)Shiva - Neverland (2011) SwallowtaiL - プレセント (2011)Royz - Revolution to NEW AGE (2011) EVE - NOVUS (2012) faice - Stay by my side (2012)POPCORE - Core's (2012)ZUCK - 遺伝アルゴリズム (2012)ALSDEAD - Separator (2013) DIV - ZERO ONE (2013) Ray℃ - 君にリアルは届きますか (2013) xTRiPx - Any verse (2013)Anli Pollicino - ELECTRIC ROMANCE (2014)CodeRebirth - CATHARSIS (2014)シド - OUTSIDER (2014)vistlip - LAYOUT (2015)アンフィル - LUNAR PHASE (2015) + probably some others i don't rmb offhand. but, yeah, i listen to too much rubbish ._. 4 Tetora, Mihenno, CAT5 and 1 other reacted to this

eiheartx 1310 Posted January 24, 2016 Aye nice thread, it's time to think and pick!My personal definition of my favourite VK albums of this decade: those that I would listen years and years after with the same intact pleasure. So there you go. All of these albums are, of course, in my possession (when I love something, I want to keept it). It's a rather small list tho. メガマソ - M of Beauty (2010) (shoutout to hiroki^) This one is special to me, and contains my favourite song (メグムミサダメキタゾラニナクノ). Plus, all songs are bangerz. When they passed major mid-2009, I was totally worried they would lost their sound and sparkle (we all know how bad it could be when you pass major, I've seen it for some - maybe now it's a good thing? But back in 07/08/09 it wasn't well received - I was part of a french VK forum btw- ofc, the band is thriving and that's good for them, but you could defo lost some things in the process), but chimes reassured me completely. You can't go wrong with this album, and if haven't heard it yet, you should defo give it a try! 葵 & 涼平 incl. アヤビエメガマソ - 情景ならびに喉、指先。, Regular Edition (2012) What else to say? I'm a fan of Aoi's voice, and couldn't find myself pleased with what he was doing with it. So, this unit was welcomed like the Messiah (lol). Aoi is sublimed with Ryohei's compositions, like it was always the case. He's meant to sing his songs! Still waiting for the next tho, or even a complete アヤビエ's remake album (when I hear the two bonus tracks, 合鍵/勿忘草, 景 and 南極's result, it's litteraly shut up and take mi money!! Aoi sings better today than he did in the past - and that's normal - so I would totally sign for this!!). Megaromania - S/T, Compilation (2013) I know, it's a compilation, but I really like this release. I listen to it very often, and I enjoy all the songs. I love the way Megaromania sounded, Sui's voice, the synths. Too bad this band is no more today. MEJIBRAY - THE "420" THEATRICAL ROSES, Regular Edition (2014) Not a big MEJ fan, but dammit, this album! All songs are great, I really love all the songs (my favourite is defo 埋葬虫, so massive!). I precised the regular edition, because for once, the SE are totally worth it! D - KINGDOM, Type C (2014) A fabulous album, with many great songs. Vocals is top notch, songs are well composed and very "mature" (dunno how I would explain that, but I really feel it xD) and even the singles songs (who were so-so) are gladly enjoyable. The Type C is preferred, for its instrumentals. Lycaon - Camera obscure -カメラオブスキュラ-, Regular Edition (2015) Ending on a great album is still frustrating tho, but this one is top from head to toe. I still have a problem with bakane chorus but, I couldn't pick this album just because one song is bad. xD I preferred the regular edition, for its cover (really hate the limited edition cover ^^") and the SE's are not there either (that's a great thing, they suck xD). メガマソ - ニシュタリ (2015) I try not to be biased and to pick all of their albums, but really, this one stands out so much for me. 6 months after its release I'm still 100% pleased with the result. Totally worth it, and I would gladly wait patiently for their return if their next album is as great and inspired like nishutari. Don't fail me my bbies, mummy's waiting for ya!! Thanks for reading! Can't wait to read yours. 2 CAT5 and hiroki reacted to this
JukaForever 758 Posted January 24, 2016 Huh, didn't know M of Beauty was 2010, played the hell out of it for 2 years. It still held up when I revisited Megamasso's discog a few months ago For the list with at least ~2 years listening: Megamasso - M of Beauty Versailles - Holy Grail Yazzmad - Yazzmad Calmando Qual - Black Sheep VII-Sense - The Reminiscence Of War Sel'm - Illegal Other Side Kamijo - Symphony of the Vampire Signal - CHAIN Galneryus - RESURRECTION Anthem - Burning Oath Yeti - 家庭の事情 Cyntia -Lady Made Destrose - Destrose FLiP - LOVE TOXiCiTY DOLL$BOXX - Doll's Apartment Gacharic Spin - Delicious SCANDAL - Temptation Box (2010 OMG) Making this list, I am surprised no MEJIBRAY even thought they are in my top 5 fave VK bands for the 2010s. Well this list was pretty easy, I only started listening to Japanese music after 2010 began after all. 2 CAT5 and eiheartx reacted to this
JamesR 119 Posted January 24, 2016 Hard question, I could pick many but I'll stick to three(no order): Imperial Circus Dead Decadence - 狂おしく咲いた凄惨な骸は奏で、愛おしく裂いた少女は聖餐の詞を謳う This album is the perfect mix of power, death and black metal - furious leads, brutal vocals, beautiful symphonic sections and epic interludes. D.I.D. - Providentia Industrial metalcore with a doom metal tinge might not sound like a good idea but D.I.D. really proved all naysayers were wrong with this release. Sorrow and aggression meld together seamlessly in this album - you'll be moshing while thinking about the bad choices you made througout your life! Envy - Atheist's Cornea Heavy, reverb-drenched post-rock/hardcore, its dreamy guitars, desperate vocals and overall feel make it a perfect fit for a rainy day. I think those albums are some of the finest works released in their genres, post-2010 2 CAT5 and eiheartx reacted to this

Pretsy 1343 Posted January 24, 2016 My first-thought choices w/ links > Talented chaps doing math rock with taste and audible 'logic'. > Midori's last efforts might be less lively than First/Second eras but Mariko did a damn good job here. > Top quality shoegaze-ish rock straight outta Nippon soil. A definite must-try. > Mad, crazy, lunatic and awesome psychepunk-ish contribution > I don't understand Riff-rain stans and their questionable antipathy towards hits in the vein of 'Future Nova' or 'Light Prayer'. >Tokyo Jihen heard through poppier, but rawer filters. Why not? > Whereas this might be the most accessible Melt-Banana record, I personally admire ADORE balanced approach here. > Koba and co. at their most expressive peak 2 CAT5 and violetchain reacted to this

Yeah don't read too deeply into the wording. Pretsy 1343 Posted January 24, 2016 Quite intriguing that basically the whole second half of Novembers' repertoire is mentioned here - tells a lot about the said band I actually forgot to mention my personal VK favorite (perhaps the only one that comes to my mind) off 2010s: >Some might be more or less into their later era but this album has also explored quite many grounds for a simple vk band - hints of trip hop, ambient, shoegaze, Carissa's Wierd-ian slowcore are showcased in this pitch-black soundscape of eccentric guitarcraft and sensual vocalwork. Uta and Ryo are/were goddamn geniuses fosho.
Bear 1817 Posted January 27, 2016 Some albums that I play almost on a monthly basis and don't skip a song on (I'm an album-person, and I don't listen to albums where you have to skip a song): Sigh - Scenes from Hell Sigh - In Somniphobia Sigh - Graveward Sabbat - Sabbatrinity Framtid - Defeat of Civilization Albums I don't play quite as often as the ones on the upper list, but that I still dig and don't skip a single song on: Kagrra - Hyakki Kenran Forward - War Nuke And Death Sentence Kriegshög - Kriegshög Abigail - Sweet Baby Metal Slut Ningen-Isu - Burai Houjou That's the ones I can think about just now. Now there's many other albums I could've included on the second list here, but I don't really feel that they fit in despite me never skipping a single song on them. They're not quite as good.
