  1. who do you think today? i genuinely ask. i want to know people's opinion on this. what's your opinion. what bands

Girugamesh, Versailles, Kamijo, Sid, Unite, Div, Alsdead, D.I.D., Miyavi, Aoi, SuG, Matenrou, D Out, Kra, Dog in the PWO, Bug Lug, Lillith, LMC and more have all put out releases I would range from Good to Great in the last year or two, some are among my favorite albums and singles of all time.

A lot of acts that people seem to find harder to take seriously, for sure, but I think the music speaks for itself.

  2. I think you both have good points and opinions, no need to fight over it, the argument was good enough without throwing in shots to immaturity and ego.

I think it is good to have elders opinions on things, if they are agreeable or not. They have a certain passion for their music and the landscape of Japanese rock, just as you do, Blackdoll. Even if they see things differently than you, they are speaking from the same kind of love that you are, they just have love for different things, and see those as important.

I think to dismiss all of current VK is a little brash, and a lot of us disagree with that, esp. when those statements come from an era many of us loved, and where many VK fans were made (09-10).

I think business-wise, VK stagnated after Luna Sea and X Japan started phasing out, but even then there were a few top bands who were huge, and many smaller bands without as much revenue.

Music wise, I can find great VK music from every year, even today, I feel like the quality has never dropped off, styles and looks have dropped in populaity, but we have constant waves of great bands coming in that are far from generic or plain copies.

There were always generic bands and copies, and it is debatable that the VK elders opinions on copying and being over-produced are very valid, as Blackdoll put it, it certainly is hypocritical when:

X Japan, Luna Sea, Buck-Tick, Color were all heavily influenced by different Rock genres and styles from America and Europe / UK.

Dir En Grey were very heavily influenced by older bands, and even their band name and stage names are products of their environment.

X Japan was produced to hell and back by their studio and Yoshiki, who was a perfectionist.

Luna Sea had huge production quality, and got more and more into almost cinematic album sounds and musical atmospheres.

Dir en Grey may come in with heavier sounds, and rough around the edge tone, but they got their start with Yoshiki producing them, their releases using special booklets, writings and pictures to attract attention, and the fact that all of their demo`s sound vastly different than the studio product after an engineer and producer get their hands on them.

As for the fan-girl thing, that has always been the case for music and most media, starting with Bards in the middle-ages to Frank Sinatra and how the studio system really took off, to The Beatles, who are the most revered band of all time yet got over by trying to pack in young girls, and pipe in the sounds of girls screaming to incite the crowd to follow along and produce `BeatleMania`. Then Rock Bands that followed such as Led Zeppelin, to Glam Metal etc...

The fanbase has always had packs of rabid fan-girls, that is how the business is, and the gender or hysteria of a fanbase, as well as the bands branding, is no indication of musical quality.

Yoshiki still plays the piano with an orchaestra behind him to girls crying in the crowd to this day, far from `pop music crap`.

There was probably some other things I wanted to say, but whatever, I forget.

  3. ALS TV VOL. 1

They talk about what is new, Nikky, what is coming up music and live wise.

Starless PV starts at around 2:00, another preview almost same length as on DC Youtube.

'Karaoke' starts at around 28:00, more comedic than musical.

Seems like they have good chemistry in any case.

There, we win again. IMO winning once was enough, time to make a new game.

  5. Interesting, I have not seen where that is said so. Did you read the fine print or something?

So is the $60 including or not including the shipping cost?

Not including shipping, it just applies to the declared cost of the items.

From my experience I have a lot of knowledge of shipping and customs. Also have direct cell phone numbers of people at FedEx and other carriers as well as Customs personnel. If anything is up I can call them for info or to work something out. But for people that dont have this luxury I definitely advise to look into shipping in 50-55 dollar values and calling FedEx if they ever charge you (Call number, say English, then say customs or billing, then say operator) they will either explain how to work it out or email you the forms to file for a contest of charges. On the form state you are receiving a gift valued at under 60 dollars of goods that are not available through any domestic retailer.

If you are charged for extra handling state your parcel was packaged in a small standard cardboard box that requires no extra handling, and definitely does not exceed any weight or dimension limits, and falls under a common HS Tariff Number. There should be no issue.

  6. Dont you pay extra handling/custom fees when you use FedEx overnight delivery thing? I tried it twice, the first one just to test it and I got hit with some fee like $20. Then I tried again just incase that fee thing was a fluke since ems never does it but it wasnt and I got shit from my dad since he was the only home and he got to pay the $40 fee. It wasnt even for him so he was extra bitter lol.

The fedex makes it seem cheaper on checkout but the extra fee upon delivery can be 20-30 dollars higher than using straight up ems.

Custom fee for anything over 60 dollars. No extra handling charges as that is supposed to be factored into FedEx's charge, any increase upon delivery would be contestable as it is deceptive to customers unless the package is actually needs special treatment not specified by the shipper.

I split my orders to be under 60, usually an album and two singles, if need be use my points to lower the total cost. Cheaper to buy them like that as two shipping charges are cheaper than a shipping charge and customs for one package.

  7. Shipping is for Canada. Details was:

    - Subtotal: 24937 yens

    - Shipping 3590 yen and Registered Air Mail Fee: 410 yen (so the shipping is 4000)

    - Redeem Points: 3246 yen (i love these points, i wish i had infinite of these lol)

    - Final order total: 25691 yen

I wish i didn't live as far from Japan -_-' Canada is so far, especially the Quebec; the shipping is very high due to this reason.

And i have an order for August with many items (i even had to use ems for this one due to the number of items). Currently this is:

    - Subtotal: 37350 yen

    - Shipping 8800 yen (so expensive for shipping)

    - Final order total: 46150 yen

omg, i'm sure i'm going to have about 100$ of customs taxes with this order.

At first, it was 4 seperate order Registered Air Mail (all was over 60$) so i combine them in one single ems order and i was saving a lot on money with this. But that doesn't count the customs taxes. I thought;; ""if i have 4 orders of over 60$, it's going to cost around 55$ X 4.. but if i put one big order, it's going to cost 1 time 100$"". Of course i will be able to afford this, otherwise i would not have ordered, but i just don't like to pay 8800yen for shipping + 100$ of taxes. To me, taxes are in a way, a part of the shipping, and it's like paying 200$ of shipping in this case instead of 100$. Maybe i should try to separate my order in different orders under 60$ of value and to use Registered Air Mail as usual. It would cost more on shipping, but ot would be also free of taxes. It's very difficult to choose the best option, i hate those customs XD

It must be because you arent in a major city brah. When I ship to Montreal it has never been over 20-30 dollars overnight express with Fedex. Both home delivery and to the business sector are equally inexpensive, sorry to hear you gotta pay so much.

To the person not having their packages marked as gifts, I recommend complaining to CDJapan as that shouldnt happen if your order is under the value limit. Tell them you are going to make your purchases elsewhere if they cannot amend the issue as other businesses are providing the services they are not in your case. Unless they have specific issues with your country's authorities, then they should fix it and/or put credit into your account. Technically it is illegal in many countries, but it is a service they offer anyway and other people are getting the benefit from.

  8. Haha.

I think after his huge Vampire movie Warner was like okay chill with the videos for a bit Kamijo, film these next two on this stage with my sisters in the background.

I was hoping for a set-piece in a French setting... But ah well...

As for profits he is definitely raking in the cash, him and Jupiter are always the top sellers in their category, when they both were releasing at the same time they had four out of the five top VK sales on numerous places. The other was Mejibray in fourth place for example.

  9. I checked out 少年記 because I saw Mi'ihen pushing them, so I was like, oh okay, I am really feeling that Gazelle song.

Maybe another one of my current favorites is Theatre by ViViD, I am always coming back to that.

Or Butterfly Dreamer, or Point of View, both by DIV.

As for Non-Japanese I like 「Closer」 by Tegan and Sara, kinda not my style, but I always followed them since their debut, because their first release had a review in RIDE BMX magazine and I used to listen to whatever they reviewed... So good memories of these groups whenever I get to go riding.

As for changing things in my favorite songs, its not my style to think like that so I just enjoy for what I see it as.

  10. Diary is probably first place, second is Reload.

I usually put them on in a certain mood, and let the albums play, but those two are really good for me to listen to on their own, so they get the most play, I am more attracted to catchy songs with lots of hooks when I am going through my library.

  11. That is cool.

Since they already planned this before D.I.D. unfortunately lost Akane, I wonder if this band has a better chance at a full time deal with DC, or if they will bring in both this band if successful, and another new band, or if D.I.D. members are kept on contract to find a new band. Many possibilities.

Now I look forward to the MJO album and the Eastern compilation.

  12. But for the love of god, if you really enjoy this band and you can afford it, buy that fucking new album they're releasing is2g.

Very good post, I like how it stayed in the middle ground and took an objective view.

To me, the part quoted is what I feel may be simple, but most important for the community and even the industry.

'If I love the product enough, I will buy it.'

    And

'If the fans love the product enough they will buy it.'

If the int'l community treats it this way, and if the industry can see this way working.

  13. Very, very good post Rsasai.

You made many points in a well composed way, and provided a wealth of information.

I truly appreciate you taking the time to write that out, and look forward to seeing more of your posts in the future.

I have made my stance on the issue somewhat clear ( I write in stream-of-thought most of the time, but I hope everyone can bear that). But I think people keep undermining the value of actual cd sales, which I believe to be the actual measure of `stock` in a band. Even if all funds dont go to the artist, they go to the production of the works, the advertisement, the printing of the cd`s, and the future budget of the bands endeavours.

I am still personally thinking over the best way for bands to distribute. I like your idea of an online shop with lossless, and it would be amazing if labels banded together to get a service such as this, or even a streaming service or subscription service where you pay a monthly fee, and additional revenue is generated by ads, etc... Though I am still unsure of how much money could be made by the subscriptions and ads, and if it can equal or exceed what cd sales would generate. This is just some dreaming that I like to do.

As for iTunes, it is better than nothing, always, but I still dislike the quality, and I know the prices they charge do not equal cd sale revenue, or support the current system VK and other areas survive off of.

But at the same time, I wonder if there really is a solution, or if we will always have to deal with their being the have`s and have-not`s of society that either can buy, and enjoy, or can`t.

Also, I sometimes feel lonely in my stance of truly loving and being on the sides of the artists, as cynical thoughts, disrespect, and nit-picking towards the art and artists seems to permeate the structure of our modern societies.I go to various places for talking about my love of things such as music, wrestling, movies, etc... And it seems like everything is overwhelming negative, and I cant help but understand why the whole system is built around pleasing fan-girls, as well as all other obsessive fan-types, and marks.

However, please understand that I value everyones opinions and take note of all of them, and take all serious replies for the same worth, good or bad.

  14. Hello,

These are some of my favorite sketches that I always keep around for motivation / inspiration. I don`t set out to draw anything anime / manga styled, but this is how I see things and how things come out when I just draw people. I have studied realistic styles, and anatomy when I was young, but now I like to play around and make things different, like different faces, wide shoulders, slim waists, etc... None of these are `finished` drawings, I just sketch for five minutes or less until I get the outline of what I want.

I have not drawn much in a while because I have many other things to do, hopefully posting these motivates me to get back to doing another thing I love.
