Hello,
List goes in descending order until my top-favorite at the bottom of each section. Instead of filling the pages up with stars, just think of the lists starting with albums in the 4 star range, and heading towards a possible 5 at the end. I made the write-ups real short, as it is a long list (still had to cut a lot of favorites though) and hope you get the jist of what I liked about the album, and, (if you haven`t heard it) if you`d like it too. Thanks for reading.
FAVORITE SINGLES:
Moran – but Beautiful
Very nice, potent title-track with a weightless yet emotional atmosphere.
葵-168- – 必要惡
Well made, laid-back tunes. One of his softer releases.
L’Arc~en~Ciel – EVERLASTING
Awesome atmosphere and sound, an otherworldly tune that calls on their old sound while mixing together their more recent approach.
BugLug – 骨
Three great tracks with very different directions, as usual for the band. The punk sound on the second track was really my favorite.
Royz – Supernova
More great tunes from Royz, one of their softer sounds on the title track, yet all tracks still rock regardless.
BORN – Son of a Bitch
Another bad@ss tune from BORN, one of the tracks that rocked me the hardest this year. They pulled off the electronic breakdown better than most.
NOCTURNAL BLOODLUST – Strike in fact, DESPERATE, Libra
Great releases from the band, which has taken a direction I prefer more, putting their heavy sound together with more melodies and hooks. Strike In fact is the catchiest, DESPERATE is the heaviest, and Libra is the more heartfelt.
DOG inTheパラレルワールドオーケストラ – TOKYOエレクトリックパレード
Amazing single that puts DOG`s current sound together with a Disney atmosphere for this single. On another level than their work in 2013, in my opinion.
ムック – 故に、摩天楼
Quite different from their last album, the title track has a nostalgic and emotional sound without going down a depressing route. Beautiful and catchy.
シド – ENAMEL
Not much to say, as awesome as every other SID single. More of a rock feel than their previous album, and more of a `Visual` delivery.
Shounenki – Gazelle, BANG ME
Two singles with a great rock sound, and some of the best melodic hooks I have heard in a while. Really surprised by this band, and anyone who likes soaring vocals and lots of hooks should have already heard it.
ユナイト– レヴ/ice
After my least favorite album from them they came back with what I love from them: Diverse tracks and songs that leave an impact through amazing playing (guitar esp. for me), amazing vocals, lyrics, and a distinct approach to making music. The way they come out with so many different sounds without it seeming amateur or like they just threw in elements of other musical styles reminds me of SID.
DIV - You, Butterfly Dreamer, 漂流彼女, Point of view
Very different singles, and I enjoyed them all. POV is one of my favorite up-beat tunes of the year, Hyouryuu one of my top atmospheric songs, and Butterfly Dreamer is one of my go-to songs when I want to rock.
SuG – Missing, CRY OUT
Amazing singles that did something very different from everything else in 2014. Both are more serious and emotionally driven than what many expect of SuG. The production is also top notch.
DOG inTheパラレルワールドオーケストラ – 魁!! 祭izm
One of my favorite singles ever. Listening to it the first time, I said `this is why I listen to music `. Hard to think of anything that expresses itself so well to me. I hold this one close.

What`s the deal with item drop rates?
I mean, first of all, if an item has a 20% drop rate, people tell me that you have a 1-in-5 chance of getting that item each time you kill that monster, so after 5 kills you should have that item...
Somebody should tell these people that that is clearly not how odds work because I have personally killed that monster 5 times and he didn`t drop a thing. Not a single thing.
What`s the deal here? I even see items nowadays with things like a 1% drop rate or less... Is there some kind of recession that the monster`s don`t want us knowing about? Because logically they should all drop the same thing every time, seeing as they are all identical right down to the last digit of their HP... But no... They`re hoarding these things away somewhere, and it sure isn`t in any treasure chests. since all I get from those things is stuff I never wanted in the first place.
Speaking of treasure chests, who`s leaving these things lying around? I mean, someone had to go into the hardest dungeon in the game, dragging that big chest with him. He picked the right spot to leave it, sure, there`s no doubt about that, but if he went to all that trouble surely he could lock the chest? They always seem to forget that part...
Back to item drops, I`m starting to doubt this whole recession thing, seeing as there sees to be no shortage of beast fangs and monster ooze. Yup, you`re going to be getting about 99 of everything you don`t ever need in the game, just like the bright idea someone had to hand out potions 40 hours into the game when you`re level 50, and have a couple thousand hp... Yup, a potion that heals 100 hit points, that should do the trick...
You know who I blame for all this? Someone just said the government, no they dodge the bullet on this one; who I blame is the Battle Planner, because somewhere along the way, they decided that it was a GREAT idea to stop it with all the epic hidden bosses we knew and loved that gave us good weapons and armor, and thought it would be a great idea to take the material collecting system from MMO`s, where logically, they make you pay more the longer you play, and put that whole time wasting system in offline RPG`s where you only have to pay once, basically making you waste hundreds of hours of your life for nothing, as they don`t even see a dime for it. Yeah, great idea, now I can tell all my friends that it took me 120 hours to beat the latest Final Fantasy, and oh, by the way, 30 hours of that were spent enjoying the game, the other 90 were killing endless wet rats and flans in the sewers waiting for one stinking item to drop.
I`d like to have a word with whoever came up with this idea...

How are their sells in comparison to Versailles? Also I'm curious how much kamijo sells in comparison to jupiter.. I'm sure a revival would form a lot of hype and sales for a late 2015/2016 Versailles album.
I think it would be cool if the band revived under jupiters current label. They seem to have a bigger budget than warner japan Versailles.
Versailles had way more sales than either Jupiter or Kamijo solo which are pretty much equal, save Louis I believe which was the most popular.
Versailles sold as much per popular release as current Jupiter and Kamijo put together.
Not sure where the disconnect was, either they fell out of favor or fans dont like either project as much? Personally I am starting to defect to team Jupiter myself, maybe the new projects can regain that market pull, or maybe fans just prefer the package Versailles presented.

Due to the current lawsuit they are experiencing for 'unfair competition' I heard of www.skiplagged.com, which makes it easier to plan cheap flights using a layover system.
I always enjoy saving money so I have been trying to find cheap ways to fly everywhere.
For example the cheapest 'premade' roundtrip package for me to Tokyo is about 1600. But if I fly to HK first for an 800 dollar roundtrip, then I can use a 180 dollar roundtrip from HK to Tokyo and the whole thing comes out more than 600 dollars cheaper.
I figure there is an even cheaper way possible though.

Well, this is going to be epic as long as the sound is well recorded and mixed etc...
BORN always sounded amazing live when I saw them and I was always impressed by how the vocals still sound great.

Awesome, lots of new songs and a cool look. I think Sana's song will be interesting.
-
Can't wait, their last album was my favorite but I think this will top it.

Hello,
I am sure many of us know of the popularity of Visual Kei bands having an archetypical Jazz / Swing influenced song thrown into their library (Jazz and Swing for lack of better word), where certain similar elements are thrown into a song that the band may not ever use or show influence from elsewhere. Some bands also seem to use this sound as a mainstay.
I was wondering how many songs we could think of with this sound, how far back it goes, and what bands and songs could be considered the originators of this trend.
Some examples:
EROS - Lycaon
Gossip - Lycaon
LONLINESS PRINCESS - Shounenki
PARADOX - Royz
And many tracks by LiphLich, as heard on their Full Course album esp.
I am sure I remember some older ones, will update later.
Please give your input and list any other songs that you feel fall into this trend, or can be related. Any similar trends that you were wondering about?
Edit: Renamed the thread since it was anonymously re-purposed to something it wasn't intended to be.
Feel free to post or talk about any kind of jazz or swing songs in Japanese Rock however, I'm sure we can all enjoy them and possibly find connections in their origins, as was the original intention of this thread. -

I think both songs sound good, guitar sounds great, but I hope they eventually make more bad@ss songs like they used to. Last album was good, but I want more heavy songs too.
Definitely a cleaner look now, and different image altogether. Promo material looks like Sid, Thank You For All looks like some mainstream wuss-rock video, but From the beginning looks like a standard VK `set-piece`.
At least the single doesn`t cost too much.
Mihenno and Delkmiroph reacted to this -
Should be sick. Always love their shows, and this one had a cool theme. Also nice that the video comes out so soon after the show.
-
They weren't nice to their fans? I know that whole performance is clearly unacceptable sounding, but that one part really made me sad. I feel ashamed to have tried to defend this band when people called them cheap and crap now. If you can't be nice, loving and accepting to your own fanbase, how can you expect to even have any fans and be respected and liked? -.-
Well, we read it on the internet so it must be true...
Not to mention they had another birthday event since...
Anyway. I didn't see it posted but their live in Mexico was postponed due to the protests over 43 students going missing. Refunds are available though the band still maintains that they will eventually play a show there.
Raburr7 and hitsuji-hime reacted to this -
Some of the most intense details I have ever seen put into a review or post on a forum ever. I have to salute you.
I will pick this up eventually as I like some of this band`s stuff but it is not my style enough to collect the whole discography, thanks for the review.

Reading a couple of posts here and connected it to what I see around the net, and with individuals in day-to-day life. Just wrote it out real fast and don`t have time to edit so see bold and color for CLIFFS.
-----
What I don`t agree with most is that there is anything inherently wrong with sticking to one thing, keeping things simple, or just being satisfied with what you have.
I see more and more, especially on the internet, of how every argument or view is attached to some sort of righteousness or made-up moral value. I see how one person attempts to attach their character or view to justice, or some sort of superiority, and either directly or indirectly writing anyone with a different view or lifestyle off as:
Small-Minded
Prejudice
Uninformed
A Senseless Fan
Immature
Or Downright Stupid
One can openly declare that they are open-minded, or dismiss others as small-minded, not noticing the hypocrisy of the statement, and the blatant abandon of any further attempts at understanding others or their point of view. The self-induced illusion of intellectual superiority makes no point of ever addressing how one can possibly know whether they are open-minded, or just of a liberal point of view that is as close-minded as a conservative person who lives within boundaries like all the rest of us.
We attach this to some sort of ideal that music is, at it`s higher forms, some sort of objectively precious, important creation that we are to revere, and all value in the same way.
If a bunch of music fans from all walks of life were to sit down and map out what they found to be important for either good music, or what they like, they might have some of the following:
Technical Skill
Deep Philosophical Meaning
Deep Emotional Meaning
Something That Rocks
Something Relaxing
Something That Is Fun
Something Real
Something That Provides An Escape
Something You Can Dance To
Something You Can Groove To
Something Nice to Put On In The Background
Any of these can be dependant, independant, or inter-dependant, and there are droves of people that would declare their preference as `Real Music`, `Good Music`and so forth...
And obviously as we know that`s one major reason why trying to transpose your value of music onto others and have expectations, or criticize anything anyone else listens to is utterly pointless.
Each of these different things can provide the same amount of entertainment, enjoyment, or value to an individual, depending on what they prefer.
In the same way some people have found what they like, enjoy listening to it, and currently do not need to look much further than the area they are currently deriving pleasure from. For some people looking into new areas of music is `broadening their horizons`, for others, it`s simply getting away from the point and potentially wasting time. In a week or two many people who do choose to wander through different genres and what-not will invariably come running back to whatever it is they are in love with in their main musical arena. I for example, despite having so many albums, trying out so many different areas, and so forth, from listening, to studying and playing... Can not go very long before I come running back for the feeling that only a band can give me, a rock band to be specific, one from more modern times, that has the sound and feeling that I relate to, and (as far as) I know no other area of music can currently give me.
Wandering to other areas of music outside of VK is a distraction, sometimes a palette cleanse, sometimes just the equivalent of a different route home to see what`s there... And I would be perfectly fine without ever trying anything outside of Visual Kei at the moment.
If someone genuinely enjoys what they are doing, no matter how narrow it is, why try to impose upon them? Chances are, if they want to try something else, they can take the initiative themselves, either by looking, or asking others. I expect any semi-grown individual to be able to make their own decisions, and even if they make decisions that I don`t agree with, I`m not going to criticize, assume some pseudo-superiority, try to inflate my ego or anything like that.
Are they enjoying what they are listening to?
Yes?
Okay, choices:
- Carry on and let them be.
- Find some arbitrary reason to scold them, either directly or indirectly, tell them they are small-minded, let them know how much more worldly you are for sitting around downloading all sorts of other music while only being as, or less passionate about what you are listening to as they are, etc...
No?
Choices:
- Carry on and let them figure it out for themselves.
- Recommend them some music and see if they like it.
- Force your opinions, made-up solutions and tastes upon them for as long as you can until they stop coming around and you wonder why they seem to resent you.
-----
I am sure we all know of people that unknowingly choose those ridiculous options, and simply can`t except that someone is different than them, so they rationalize everything under a statement such as: They don`t like what I like, or do what I do despite my way being superior, therefore they are stupid and small-minded.
It`s hard to accept that someone can simply like something different, or be so specific, or not be open to all of the wonderful things that you are enjoying.
Try telling a tribesman in South America who lives in a mud-hut that he shoudl expand his horizons.
Or telling an old man that has done nothing other than catch fish in his hometown his whole life and raise a family that he `NEEDS to travel Europe`.
Maybe go tell a Monk that he should really go out there, meet some women and enjoy himself.
Chances are these `narrow` minds are more content than any of the stressed out, low-self-esteem, inescapably materialistic minds that roam the cities and surf the internet today. Many people don`t even need music to be content, guess they are too small-minded and would really be happier exploring Neo-Classical Jazz right now...
So not even taking time constraints or anything like that in mind, which can seem to come off as excuses tbh, I don`t see anything wrong with not being musically adventurous, or even down-right listening to the same stuff all day everyday if it satisfies you. Call me crazy.
Other things:
In the name of righteousness again, we always seem to be putting down visuals and declaring for our own sake that The Music is What is Most Important.
Really?
Why?
Is the music so much deeper and meaningful, and of so much more value that we must dismiss the looks in Visual Kei or other genres, and proclaim to not care about them?
So there`s no value, message or feeling given by the look of the band? We can`t connect with the band through what they express visually, we can`t like them for their looks, we have to be devout to the music first of all, and put down others who seem to over-value the aesthetics?
Seems like a load of cow dung to me, and that people are free to like whatever they like about the experience, or band. While we are on the subject we could be dismissing all fans who aren`t `in it for the lyrics, because the lyrics are the heart of the song and convey the message best and blah blah blah` but many fans conveniently don`t have the luxury of enforcing that requirement to being an intelligent VK fan.
Dismissing Popular Bands In `Covert` Ways:
Flavour of the Month
Bishies for Fan-girls
Not VK anymore because of some made-up reason.
And so forth...
Nothing wrong with liking whatever is popular, as long as the person genuinely enjoys it. Even if for some reason they only enjoy it for its popularity and community. They could still be enjoying it just as much as someone listening to Mozart, Dir en grey, The Beatles or whatever music that ascended from the heavens to bless the peasants and elitists alike as they stroke themselves to whatever brilliance they are currently experiencing through their overpriced headphones.
All value for music, and whatever else you want to pile into the category of Art, is purely up to those experiencing it, and there is nothing wrong, and nothing inferior with being a Mejibray fangirl, someone who only listens to Visual Kei, someone who only listens to one band, or someone that puts high value on a bands looks.
Does any action on behalf of the criticized listener really hurt or affect anyone? Is there really an issue here that we need to stick our noses into, or will that just put people off and separate communities already under many other strains due to differing viewpoints.
If anyone feels the need to criticize anyone mentioned above, berate them, or act like their superior, chances are that the `small-minded` person you are fed up with is better off than you.

hmmm your way of thinking is... how do i put this? "special" i guess. it's like you are on some random planet, swimming in the random ocean filled with utter randomness, which you take and throw at everyone. 2deep4mi ;__;
Looks like you are raging off of too much testosterone after watching that video you posted brah.
Awesome vid and animation. Teddyloid is pretty sick as well.
Hope studio Khara keeps coming out with big anime series after Evangelion is 'finished'.
They are due to change the anime world again, need some more awesome anime with 'DEEP' messages.
I think the 'newer' look to this animation is pulled of very well without looking cheap, or too much like a product of the digital age. Also, I know they have always been putting teddies in our faces and inspired the 'Gainax Bounce' term, but I also wonder if there is some agenda to the direction of everyone involved with Gainax's current works.
As we know part of the message of Eva was based around stepping out of your little world and connecting with others. Now we have this vid with a dude who looks almost like a mix of Shinji and Shimon, who is in his otaku fortress having visions of Heavenly Blessed Beauties and all sorts of potential issues he sees with them, despite their value to him.
Anyway, just thinking aloud.

Today was one of the greatest days of my life *_________*
Me too, just got back from watching WWE... Was so epic.
Also, nice signature.

Awesome tune. Perfect Fantasy was less my style than their other releases but this album seems like it will be going in yet another direction and I am looking forward to it. They always keep it fresh while retaining key elements of their sound that I appreciate, and it is good to know that if you dont listen to one release as much they will be back with something else later.
-
-
There's also Rock'N'Roll Chainsaw by Maximum the Hormone.
-
Awesome tune. First time I listened I was like oh no another one of these electro breaks, but the guitar solo saved it.
Then after a few more listens the break grew on me. It is one of the better done and more integrated ones, IMO.
Can't wait until I get the whole single.
-
Can't wait to see him in it.
Title is a tongue-twister btw...
-
Love the song, PV, look, etc...
Awesome. Can't wait to get this single, then hopefully we get an album.

FAVORITE MINI – ALBUMS:
BORN – THE STALIN -666-
Rocked hard, plain and simple.
REDMAN – Flame Of Life
Well made and unexpected. A completely softer yet still strong kind of rock from what we are used to from Satoshi.
LM.C – Perfect Rainbow
Great release after one I did not enjoy as much (Perfect Fantasy). This features LM.C at a medium setting between their most straight-forward work, and their most `quirky`.
FANG – evolutionary Process
Not sure if this is a mini, or full album, but it is short so I will put it in this category. Didn`t know of this band until someone introduced me to their music. Really great youthful feeling and catchy tunes.
Kra –サタヒナト
Really different work featured in this concept album, with a huge emphasis on piano, while retaining lots of the band`s known amazing playing and vocals. Deep and dark atmosphere, which I loved, though the hidden track steals the show.
girugamesh – gravitation
Absolutely awesome album that rocks hard. Heavy and dark atmosphere, but is hard to find any negative vibe in it due to how much headbanging it induces and how much the catches get stuck in my head.
