well she probably should stick to playing trees, with her signature wooden acting and botox all over.

Lostprophets, bands w/ Denis Stoff, Michael Jackson... there's a bunch tbh. I do think it's a legitimate argument. A voice is an instrument, people are canvases, and a song is what you make of it.  However, music and performance is interpreted from individual-to-individual differently. If someone is uncomfortable with a band, artist's, or community's actions because that's what "makes" the experience for them, then that dislike is reasonable. One person's actions shouldn't generalize a whole band and said person's success (or the band's success) shouldn't be blamed as the reason for "x". Individuals (or multiple individuals) are culpable for their own actions. Bands have many, many individuals behind them when it comes to production, post-production, advertising/marketing, stage preparation, etc. that attribute to their success. I'm certainly not going to hold all those individuals accountable for one person's misdeeds.

Only commenting because I've seen the point made a few times, but...casting Ariel, a character whose race plays 0 part into who she is with a non-white actor is absolutely not the same as casting canonically PoC characters with white actors.

From GitS to Airbender to everything in between, those are not comparable scenarios and I don't understand how it's hard to see that.

Why are y'all so upset about this thread? You can all ignore it. It's not like no one posts random shit here, people come and cry about their failed relationships all the time and no one bats an eye about those "boohoo my ex left me" threads. There's no specific rule on the forum about political discussions so I don't really see the problem. Y'all can just ignore the threads you aren't interested in instead of making a fuss about them. Or then rewrite the rules or something, idk. Go post about VK to balance it out.

To secret: yeah, the religious post was fun and insightful as a few others that had real substance, but just posting a link or a youtube video and expecting discussion to take off in a healthy manner is not the way to go either, this isn't your FB newsfeed. I advise to either restrain from it or at least provide a richer starting point for a conversation to make it interesting. Otherwise it looks like cheap clickbait and I can see why users get upset.

It’s not like half of the threads you post are in the genre of ”stupid libtards upset about X Y Z”

”Desperate for wokeness points” who the fuck are you for real coming on this board about vk bringing your asenine american political shite in here. Nobody here takes this shit seriously enough at least in the context of this forum to give a shit enough to virtue signal for anything. Left right up and down or center these titles and threads are peak cringe and I’d rather see this forum dead with its dignity intact rather than have this shit continue

It has nothing to do with you posting, I never insinuated that you posted it b/c of "racism". It's the attention that's being garnered toward the headline and the source. Though, I'm looking at more than just this article.

Also, unironically using the term "wokeness points", lol.

It is, however, my mistake for bringing that conversation into this thread where a misunderstanding could develop (I should know better, given the other drama on the forum.) I got pretty irked going through some of the article (and other article's) comments, so intended on referencing that here. Would rather not stir drama in an entertainment thread. If I come off that way, my apologies.

nomemorial got a reaction from platy in Let's talk about religion.
Grew up in a very religious (Southern Baptist) household. My parents were fairly lenient about media and such compared to friends' parents so I'm always grateful for that, though there were still those awkward "now that you watch anime do you worship the devil???" moments.

Kind of fell further away the older I got and the more I learned about the world and interacted with non-Christian folks - especially because many of the "secular" people I spent time with acted far more "Christian" than most of the religious folks I encountered. Got tired of being judged due to my general interest in niche subcultures and not looking like some cookie-cutter buzzcut n' Oakleys youth group bro so I of course developed some deep resentment issues regarding that part of things when I was in my teens/early 20s.

Past that, it's the fairly typical story of "I simply can't associate with those types" in post-2016 America. The cognitive dissonance of Christian Trumpers is all kinds of amazing and alarming because I simply cannot fathom the mental gymnastics one must do to think it's a cohesive way to believe. All of that on top of western Christianity being an inherently racist and homophobic institution and I just dumped it all at once.

That being said, now that the smoke has cleared from my "last straw" moment with religion, I do find myself reinvesting in spirituality in a number of ways. Part of me still wants to believe in the idea or image of Jesus I knew growing up, but it's hard to not connect it to what I see before me now. There may still be a "fear of the other" implanted in me that leads me back to that place, but I'm comfortable enough with myself to realize that sometimes whatever calms the anxiety is valuable regardless. Other parts of me find more pagan-leaning ideas very compelling from a mythological standpoint and the amount of reverence I saw in Japanese religious practice really struck me. Visiting temples and the sheer beauty of them while still giving a certain sense of humility is so unlike what I'm used to seeing in America that it really inspired me to think more about the power of spirituality. I had a quiet, personal moment at a small shrine in the woods that will likely stick with me forever in a positive way that is unlike anything I've felt from western religion.

I suppose that leads to my final point of frustration with most western Christianity in that it pretty much deletes any and all spirituality and mysticism from its own "canon" so to speak. I was laughed at and put down for ever expressing interest in the metaphysical side of things outside of "God's plan." I found that everything was always presented to me the opposite of how I needed it. When I wanted to seek out the spiritual side I was basically told that was "not correct," but when I was dealing with real, tangible problems all I ever got were statements of "oh, we're praying for you!" It was too pick-and-choose. Too uncertain of itself. I don't like that.

Sorry for the ramble - this is a topic really close to my heart and I'm pretty sure most people close to me are tired of my tirades on it, but I truly believe western Christianity is presented in a way that is very damaging at long-term levels and I am still, as a full grown adult person, dealing with the ramifications of what I was made to believe in my youth.

    1. Opinion on feminism
as is with everything, there are people who take it too far, and others who don’t.  i’m all for the general idea behind feminism.  terfs?  not so much.

    2. Do you think people tend to generalize all feminists as “man haters”.
    some do.

    3. Would you consider yourself to be a feminist?
    probably.  🤔

    4. Does the existence of man haters or “femenazis” ruin the reputation of actual legitimate feminists?
extremists always seem to be the ones who get the most attention in media or whatever.  i think it’s most likely to make everyone look crazy, so kinda a propaganda.

    Regarding Video Games

    1. Is it okay to be Politically Correct? (EX: Making female characters less sexualized)
tbh anything you want to do is ok as long as you’re not a sexual offender, pedo, or a murderer (unless you exclusively murder sex offenders and pedos, ofc) is okay.

    2. Do you think gamers tend to be more...toxic when it comes to the inclusion of Women, LGBT etc topics in games?
    absolutely.

    3. Should female characters be less sexualized?
this one is tricky for me,  like women can wear whatever they want to.  who cares?  but fictional characters don’t decide what they’re wearing.  it’s possible to make a female char sexy without her being hypersexualized (like sena lightning).  but there are also some boss female characters who are sexualized as well, and the way they dress adds to how dope they are?  so, idk.  🤔
