faintly hoping audience killer loop sounds more or less close to the flawless vulgar original

and hades probably sounds like 3 minutes of hurrdurrhurrhurrrrsqueeeeeaaaaaaaaauch, that would totally fit into their style as of now.

I'm glad their japanese fanbase hasn't really changed in years
(even tho I always assumed it was due to Toshiya and Shinya not losing sanity (except when that skrillex head thing happened))

I'm not comparing this one to DIM at all. Where in my post did I say that? Just because I think this album is average that automatically means that I have this opinion because I compared it to DIM, and not for other reasons? I realized that if I do keep comparing everything to DIM I'm never going to be content (lol). People can actually dislike this album for other reasons than just "comparing it to DIM" and tbqh I'm starting to get a bit tired of the regular stan's argument of "OMG YOU CAN NEVER LOOK AT IT OBJECTIVELY BECAUSE YOU ALWAYS COMPARE EVERYTHING TO DIM". I see every album for what it is. Do you think I could ever enjoy BUCK-TICK's latest three albums if I constantly compared them to Kurutta Taiyou or DTD -style93-? Seriously, DTD shits all over both Yumemiru Uchuu and RAZZLE DAZZLE but I still think these songs are catchy and fun and well-executed. Is DTD better? Absolutely, no doubt it about it. Is RAZZLE DAZZLE therefore horrendous? No it's not. There are plenty of reasons why people dislike this album (as stated throughout the review thread) and you're going to have to come to terms with the fact that just because you like everything the GazettE does doesn't mean that everyone who dislikes it (or thinks it average, in my case) does that based on a very flimsy argument. You also have to realize people will ALWAYS compare, it's natural. Even if you don't like it, sorry (it may sound harsh) but you need to get over it. Also wow god forbid me that I mention DIM in a normal GazettE discussion because I actually really like that album (I didn't mention it in any GazettE thread for the last year so your argument fails on this part too).

The problem with the effort is that not EVERYONE seems to have tried because be REALLY REALLY honest here...if you have to look at the individual members' progress, isn't one of the 5 sticking out like a sore thumb (in a negative sense)? As multiple people have already has stated, Ruki is currently the weakest link of the band because the instrumentals on this album are GOOD and do lots of different things. Uruha, Aoi, Reita and Kai are the only ones who actually shine on this album but I feel like Ruki just drags the whole thing down with either stale vocals or boring choruses.

/anyway I'll quit now because this is off-topic and opinions differ blahblah so if you want to get back at me send me a PM though I doubt it's possible to change your mind on this

I'd actually be interested to hear re-recorded versions of those songs! (otherwise there wouldn't be a point in buying this anyway, unless for new fans..)
Not so much the ones from larva/their undercode era because we all know what it'd sound like but... wouldn't it be interesting to hear current 12 interpret songs like 'merry go world'?

    Mini? You mean their self-titled?
I kinda liked it,even though there were MANY flaws.
I think that it was an experimental album, and that with "DEICIDA OF SILENCE" they found their true sound.
I wish they would remake the songs a la "DEICIDA OF SILENCE" without going far away from the originals.

Plenty of people who used to dig the GazettE or are just curious what this big band puts out now will try the album, thus a higher chance of negative reviews. I'll explain this in the next paragraph. If I think an album isn't good, I will write a negative review but there's a difference between a detailed review on what you didn't like and the "lol this sucks I lost all faith in them gazerock is dead"-review.

GazettE has done quite a lot of different things and for each theme that they did they have a specific group of fans. You have the group that prefers their first few singles/minis from when they just started, the NIL group, the STACKED RUBBISH group, then there's the DIM group (including myself) and the ones that like a little bit of everything. Each album is different in a sense and the least amount of variety in between albums of the GazettE were TOXIC and DIVISION. This is the risk if you change for every album. You'll keep all fans and most of them will be disappointed it doesn't sound like NIL/STACKED RUBBISH/DIM, etc.

i found the single "stylish" but then again,
it sounded much more "shallow" and "lighter" than 'now' or of course 'girugamesh'
i think this single fits into 'go' album (with less the electro fx) -
'go' album was 'ok' with good choruses but since i REALLY loved "now" album ...
(its ok that satoshi doesnt scream anymore but he does push the mellow vocals too much these days)

    but all in all,
not like a "come back" or "redemption" but i would say "safe" - good music

Before I got sick of separating genres, I only had two folders for VK: major and indie lol.  I may have also had angura and Nagoya folders alongside the aforementioned two.

Another idea could be good vocals and bad vocals hahah.

This whole "BUT HE/SHE DID IT FIRST"-argument is irrelevant. Threads usually go off-topic, there's nothing you nor the staff can do to prevent it. However, if a user goes a little off-topic once in a while there's nothing the staff will do to intervene, because if we're going to have to punish EVERYONE who goes a tiny bit off-topic in a thread, that would just kill the discussions all-together. However, with you both I and the other staff members have noticed a pattern. The fact you go on about how old visual kei is better than new VK is most of the time not just a little but COMPLETELY unrelated to the initial meaning of the thread and almost always ensues into arguments or people getting offended. If you're going to complain about it, at least do it in the appropriate thread, that's all I'm asking of you.

Also, if you've read the MH guidelines you know that mod decisions are final and that you should not argue with them. I'm leaving it with a verbal warning this time because in this thread everyone ignored it/moved on, but should you feel like commenting on my decision again I will take more serious actions.

Thanks for your responses guys and for confirming that I'm not alone
It's really weird because I remember reading Zess' post which essentially pointed out that VK is more of a subculture (if anything) rather than a genre of music. As a result I assumed that there were some kind of super secret genres that I was missing, but I guess I was mistaken.

    So basically...

The term 'visual kei' is not a genre of music, yet due to the complexity of the VK scene this term is the only way to encapsulate the form. Due to the sheer amount of genres being used, there is only one genre (which is in fact not a genre) which can describe this ever changing style and that is, confusingly, visual kei!

I feel sorry for them. They make softer music for a change, probably due to their record label, and then people bitch about it. They then change it up to appease listeners and then the fans still bitch about it.
Apart from SOME of the vocal work in their new phase, I honestly don't see what the problem is. Especially when loads of VK bands out there have much worse vocalists.
I personally love the new era and I can even tolerate the poppier albums. In comparison I found Play Dolls boring as hell

I would like to second nekkichi in the wondering who is shaping their artistic direction because it seems like such a weird... off-the-deep-end translation of sound, which didn't work on recent releases for me, but...

I thought THIS release was excellent. Maybe it is mediocre by some standards, when you compare it to some of 12012's greatest songs... Obviously it doesn't really compare, but I think this is a huge improvement from their most recent atrocities unto my eardrums. I was highly skeptical of Chaboo-Chaboo... Or whatever it is. Because I think it's a dumb name and the preview showed the worst part of the song, but even that was good to me. Like, the title track, EP opener, and Door to the Sky really did it for me. Sorry if this ends up being the unpopular opinion, but if they did more like this I'd be down.

If it's just for your own use, there really isn't a right or wrong way to what genre you use. If you like listening to Deathgaze with say Aicle and even though they're technically worlds apart when it comes to genres, if you still like listening to both at the same time. Then tag em as dickbutt kei or whatever just works.

Honestly I like to use playlists but if you really are adamant of tagging genres, it's just whatever works for you personally.

I think a lot depends on whether you consider the "look" of a band to be relevant to their genre. I don't at all.

A lot of stuff like old Kuroyume I just tag as "Gothic Rock" because even though the drumming is more Darkthrone than Joy Division, in general it sounds like gothic rock to me. Bands like Merry Go Round sound similar, but use a lot of blues scales in their composition... but calling them "Blues Rock" would be insane, so they are tagged as "Gothic Rock" as well.

When you get to newer stuff like NoGod, Gazette, and Rentrer en Soi, "Hard Rock" or "Alternative Metal" is probably the most appropriate. The weird shuffling, pseudo-bluesy, rockabilly style that Gazette do occasionally is harder to classify; honestly in their earlier days they sounded much more punk, and occasionally even a little ska. Cali≠Gari occasionally delve into surf rock like "Maguro" but they also sound like a post-punk band sometimes—maybe something like The Birthday Party. Pierrot started playing some sort of gothic rock/New Wave fusion, but songs like "Psychedelic Lover" are totally pop-punk.

Dir en grey have been fluctuating between melodic death metal, sludge metal, metalcore, and various other genres as of late, so "Alternative Metal" is just an easier description. Versailles sound like a power metal throwback band to me—I could see them being tagged as either "Power Metal" or "Speed Metal." The vocals are different, but otherwise they sound like an offshoot of X Japan with a little Judas Priest thrown in... and maybe more keyboards.

If you want to just listen to Japanese stuff in iTunes, why not make a playlist...?
