I think it's good, but not as good as everyone else is making it out to be... the hype train is just too strong i guess. Is it better than DSS? Yes I think so. Is it better than Uroboros? No not in a million years. that might just be because I've had five years to listen to Uroboros and it's left a huge impression but who knows. Honestly I also find it pretty laughable all these people comparing them to deg in the first place... two totally different sounds should not be compared. and the people saying this is better than 9goats material... I just laugh at them, because they are too blinded by the hype. why would you even compare it to 9goats to begin with? because the bassist is there... okay whatever.

What's the deal with people saying that DEG has to compete with Sukekiyo with their upcoming album? that's just stupid. Tbh i fully expect to like diru's new album a whole lot more than this... with the way they're talking about going back to their roots and doing more simplistic songs and with Rinkaku, unraveling, and STU all being pretty really solid songs (imo) I don't see how the upcoming album can't be good.

Basically I liked IMMORTALIS but I don't understand this backlash of negativity towards DEG all of a sudden... it's beyond me.

    This. So much.
I think a lot of this supposed "rivalry" or bashing stems from people's distaste in STU, hell even possibly Rinkaku and The Unraveling. Its pretty much just spite. And its not as if we didn't know that DIR EN GREY was going to take it down a notch. Kaoru specifically stated MULTIPLE times that their newer releases are going to be simple and quite honestly, its understandable. They successfully progressed substantially after the Marrow of a bone to Dum Spiro Spero. That takes a lot, especially having to deal with 7 strings vs 6 strings and fairly complex song structures. To want to tone down, while still keeping the essence of groups sound for a while is OK. It shows maturity. It shows that they too are human beings who know when to take necessary breaks. There are other bands other than DIR EN GREY that one may listen to at the end of the day if one isn't happy with the direction the band is going in. The end.
This sudden spark of "hate" is what's the popular thing to do. And while Kyo is the front man for Dir en grey, he doesn't even have that much musical say compared to Kaoru or Die. So if anything the comparison music wise vs Sukekiyo makes absolutely no sense...
As far as Shinya goes, he is one of my favorite drummers but its no secret that once the band started treading into more difficult territory, he's flawless in the studio but live, he cannot hold his own for some reason. Kaoru and Die have done a better job being clutch on the areas they may have had issues in, but I consistently notice the same minor screw ups in every single recent live DVD release. I dunno if its him not practicing or what....Chances are, the newer stuff they'll be playing will be better for him.

D'espairsray's Squall is also another one of my favourites. Aaaaand pretty much all of Dir En Grey's also

Just wow. I bow my head to all the people involved, just when I thought 9gbo's CALLING couldn't get something to rival it, here comes Immortalis. Calm and refreshing sound, just as you would expect from that kind of collaboration. 9gbo, RES and Dir en grey do have some connecting points anyway. Dunno..9/10 is good I guess.
Though I don't really understand the comparisons to Dir en grey all the time (other than just another opportunity to bash the band). The only Deg-member in it is Kyo, so of course it would sound different. The main influences obviously lie in  RES and 9gbo thrown together in the mulinex. This rivalry thinking is ridiculous. This band is not Dir en grey.

-Now that i've listened to VK, everything else in the world is craptastic-
Just no. VK is amazing but there's also a lot of crap; the same goes for all music. Just because VK is exotic and different, it doesn't make it superior by default.
I hate it when people say that ALL Western music sucks because it simply doesn't. Plus, where do you think most VK gets its influences from?
Both sides of the world have good and bad music...although VK has a much higher percentage of good bands to me

I was talking about this with Pretsy and Zess the other day, and Pretsy suggested this subject should have its own thread, so here it is. The main question is; what CDs are so particularly bad (and basically assumed as awful by a majority of fans) that you would basically recommend people NOT to buy, like absolutely never ever, even if it were the last CD in the world.

This thread isn't limited to Japanese music by the way, just to keep it broad. What CDs are so bad that you'd prefer that they were to be removed from every music purchasing site on the entire internet, what albums should never ever have been printed to disc?

NOTE: IF YOU ARE OFFENDED EASILY THIS THREAD IS PROBABLY NOT FOR YOU. GO CLICK ON THE PICTURE OF JUPITER ON THE TOP OF THE PAGE TO FIND A MORE SUITABLE THREAD TO READ.

Opinions differ, but keep it civilized. For the rest, let go of all your frustations about those albums that you listened to, would like to collect all copies of on a deserted island and then nuke said island. That's just how bad it is.

If one expect a straight up horror film I can sure understand people's disappointment. But I liked its satirical take on the horror genre, and how it played around with all the cliches in the genre, especially from the last 20 years onward. But everyone's etitled their own opinion.

But if the only horrors you've found good the last few years is The Woman In Black, Evil Dead, You're Next and Paranormal Activity I strongly suggest you to try more horror films. There's been so many good horror films lately IMO.

Here's my awesome list of horrors from the last 5 years that's worth seeing (I also added some "genres" in case some of it might be up your alley. Left those you already mentioned out though):

    9/10:

The House of the Devil ("proto"-slasher, "satanic panic" horror)
Les nuits rouges du bourreau de jade aka Red Nights (neo-giallo)

    8/10:

The Lords of Salem (psychedelic satanic 70's throwback horror)
Tucker & Dale vs. Evil (horror comedy)
    Frankenstein's Army (found-footage horror-sci-fi)
    Insidious (supernatural horror)
    Thirst (vampire horror)
    Bedevilled (horror/thriller)
    Piranha 3D (horror comedy)
    Frankenweenie (horror comedy)
    The Innkeepers (haunted house horror)
    Julia's Eyes (neo-giallo)

    7/10:

    Amer (neo-giallo)
    Insidious: Chapter 2 (supernatural horror)
    Chillerama (horror comedy)
    Berberian Sound Studio (neo-giallo)
    Secuestrados (home invasion)
    The Revenant (horror comedy)
    Warm Bodies (romantic horror comedy)
    The Awakening (haunted house horror)

And many more, but I just took the most "important" ones now.

The House of the Devil is the bestout of these. It's close to being a 10/10 for me, and one of my all time favourite horror films. Top 5 for sure. Everything about it, except for the trash cans, SCREAMS late 1970's. How the film is shot, the effects, the soundtrack, the cinematography and the story just can't get any more 70's. Exceptionally good film!

Woah, look, Jigsyboy, a new face! How nice! I can't say I agree with your opinion on either The Conjuring or The Cabin in the Woods, though. But as I love watching and talking about horror films it's good to see someone "new" here. The more, the better.

What was it that you didn't like about The Cabin in the Woods? I know a lot of people who found it disappointing, but they all had the wrong impression of the film before they watched it and expected something else than what they got. It's a very fresh film. The films' weakest point to me was its poor CGI. It was just really bad. But I enjoyed it a lot ayway. Fun as fuck.

I personally found The Conjuring okay but didn't leave that big of an impression on me. It was a bit better than the usual modern "haunted house" type fare, which isn't saying much tho. xD Also, I just cannot tolerate Cabin in the Woods - I know it's supposed to be "clever" and stuff but the whole movie looked and felt... I dunno, kinda dumb, plastic and lifeless. Couldn't enjoy it at all.

I think the 70's was a brilliant year for horror, especially Italian horror. But the true slashers were born in form of Black Christma and Halloween, animal horror got HUGE with Jaws and Piranha and you got claustrophobic horror in a spaceship that scared you shitless for a year in form of Alien. The 70's were great and this was way harder than I had expected.

    1. Halloween
What can I say about this film that has not been said yet? Nothing. Nothing at all. This is one of the best examples on how bloody brilliant a low-budget, b-film can actually be. While not being the first slasher film ever, this sure as fuck sat the examples and made the "rules" that would be used to death the next decade. One of the most important horror films ever, and one of my all time favourites. This is THE film to watch on halloween eve. All hail John Carpenter, both the director and musician. The soundtrack is half the fun here.

    2. Profondo Rosso aka Deep Red
This is one of Dario Argento's best films, and a überclassic giallo film. The camera work in this film is absolutely gorgeous, the sets are artsy and are the soundtrack is almost too good, made by Goblin of course. While not my all time favourite giallo, it's up there with the best for sure.

    3. Alien
This film took the word claustrophobic and changed it. The atmoshere, the monster, the acting, the special effects. It's all there. This is still one of the most sacry films ever made. Did I mention it's brilliant? No? Well, it is. Fantastic!

    4. Nosferatu: Phantom der Nacht
Contrary to belief, this is not a remake of Nosferatu, eine Symphonie des Grauens. It does lend a lot from that film, especially the look of Count Dracula, but it is just another film based of the novel, and one of the best there is. Not as good as Nosferatu, eine Symphonie des Grauens, but it's up there with the others. Dark and grim. A must see for anyone interested in vampires.

    5. Zombi 2
Lucio Fulci, the master of gore made this in the late 70's and it was shocking. Gory, bloody and grim as fuck. This one was pretty far out at the time, and while not at shocking now, still bloody fucking awesome. My favourite Lucio Fulci film by far!

    6. Suspiria
More Dario Argento, and more Goblin. The colours are rich, the direction are brilliant and the atmosphere is amazing. Oh, and the soundtrack, man. God damn! Witch! Witch! Witch! Witch! Shieeeeeeet! Atmosphere! I was lucky enough to get to watch this on the big screen a few weeks ago and it added such a dimension to the film.

    7. The Exorcist
How good is this film? Almost too good. To me this film is all about atmosphere, and the atmosphere is bloody amazing in this one and it is filled with memorable lines and scenes. Top notch!

    8. Jaws
I bet a lot kids had problems jumping into the water for a long time after watching this. That kinda says it all, doesn't it? I remember I was scared shitless after watching this as a kid. The shark looks fantastic, the direction is amazing and it's still a bit frightening to be honest. Fucking sharks, man.

    9. Tombs of the Blind Dead
The most underrated and overlooked film on the list. This Sanish film is beyond awesome, and it deserves so much more. The use of noises in the soundtrack, the look of the Blind Dead and the atmosphere is top notch. Check it out, as well as its sequels which are all good. Oh, and the Finnish doom/death metal band Hooded Menace bases a lot of their songs on these films. Fantastic band!

    10. Hausu
Surreal horror with some of the coolest special effects you'll ever see on screen. They were made to look unrealistic, as if a child had made them, and they still look unique and original even to this day. Some of the special effects they didn't even know the look of until the film was completed, and many of them did not end up as expected. It was a huge experiment, and a great one too. This film is a must see if you're into weird horror flicks.

As usual I took a look at my IMDB so I mut have forgotten some films that I haven't given a score yet. But it'll look something like this for sure.
