Nope. Madrigal Maria was imo a solid release despite it being Uroboros lite but my point is that they'll release something that's worthy and then follow it up with something terrible...

^CD doesn't necessarily have to be good to make it on their. The band just needs to have big supporting fan group that buys their CDs no matter what. It's the power of the fans

Either that or to either side of the stage if there's enough viewage in between any equipment and crowds. I usually only do that if the back center is too far back

I'd stray away from either of the sides as that would give your recording some pretty bad phasing. The best would be anywhere in the center, though the further you are towards the back, the better your recording will be. It's less of an issue if you've got good recording equipment, but for most people the back is the safest bet.
