I would KILLLL to have Dir En Grey's Gauze on vinyl. The ones that do exist are extremely rare as only 100 of them were made. I remember it being on sale for like 50,000 yen just recently and sadly it was sold out last time I checked.

As for other rare items, Dir En Grey had this shirt from 1999 during the Gauze era and I love the design. Would love to have them remake it for the albums 20th anniversary this year.

These teaser announcements barely affect me anymore. I don't even think I can even physically believe in the new album being real anymore 😓

Basically all of Dir en Grey tbh even their band name is an amalgam of "cool sounding white people words"
The romance squad (Gackt era Malice Mizer, LAREINE, Kamijo solo, etc.) weren't exactly fluent in French, nor did actual French people proof-read their stuff. It's strangely endearing? I mean, they're doing their ganbare best, I can't fault them for trying.
ju te veux, the French monologue in Mayonaka, some LAREINE songs like this one... I'm strangely touched.

Finished Tiger King and it was amazing. Best True Crime series so far. The people involved in all of this? Holy fuck! How can they all be real? Not only Joe Exotic, but Carole, Jeff,  Doc Antle, Tim, Allen and more. How the hell are these real life human beings? Fuckin' hell, this shit is crazy. Amazing docu-series.

Watching Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness and this is quite something. There's been a lot of fantastic true crime over the past years, but this shit takes the cake. It's hard to believe a story like this, but at the same time it's so wild and absurd that it's impossible to believe it's fiction. No man can write anything like this. That shit is impossible. Amazing stuff.

Yah Yoshiki takes the cake. It reminds me of one Prince's staff saying to Kevin Smith something along the lines of "you go tell him no because I am not. Prince has been living in Prince land too long."
From connection went to Yoshiki's NHK recording last year and it was all hired foreigners acting disrespectful between takes along with actual X fans chosen from Yoshiki mobile, was supposed to be part of the questionnaire after but he chose to use only the fake foreign hired hands who knew nothing about X haha. The dude is a genius but needs someone to bring him back to reality and that will probably ground him to make better music, same thing seems to be a reoccurring thing with people who worked with Prince and had the balls to tell him the truth and set him back on course.

Okay the only band I can think of that hasn't been listed worth noting would be Crack Brain

Also sort of related, what was with the old vk phenomenon of bands using the word autism in their song titles. it's funny as hell

Visual kei aesthetics are so deep that it's both a visual and written (verbal) phenomenon.

Do edgy names count? There was a visual kei band called 'Nazis' and one of their members is the vocalist of umbrella, a pretty good recent VK band.

It's a bit of an old and well known one but personally I was really shocked when I saw Diru on the Saw 3D soundtrack. Still kind of am, actually. I even remember hearing the track being played during some trailer clip or something. That might just be faulty memory but I distinctly remember this strange feeling of intrigue when I heard something distinctly non English playing during a western horror film, mostly because I wasn't used to hearing music in languages I couldn't understand back then.

Apparently X Japan was on Saw IV's soundtrack too, but I don't remember that one as well. Tbh I think hearing X in the credits of one of the most famous torture porn movie franchises of all time is unexpected in itself. Honestly I'm still surprised that the Saw soundtracks featured international, in this case, Japanese and VK rock/metal. It's just uncommon for something as popular as the Saw franchise to feature VK without it being some exoticism gimmick (or at the very least, openly treated like one), or have it be a part of the setting or plot.

Joe Hill mentions Hide's passing in his novel Heart Shaped Box which was published in 2007. I was 17 at the time which might be one of the reasons he became my fav non-queer horror novelist.

Too manufactured and I don't respect the industry. I prefer an industry where the artists have creative freedom it has nothing to do with whether I like or dislike pop or rap music or anything of the sort. I can respect artists in any genre if I feel like what they're doing is genuine and heart felt.

I covered this pretty much in the bad bandmen topic as someone who is actually in the scene here but:

Ghostwriting has been going on in vk since the 90s but is now much much more prevalent.

A good sign that a band is using a ghostwriter is that they do not gradually grow in production and songwriting but suddenly have fully produced looks and releases under a label.

The music industry is a cut throat business, even more so in this age, so one can understand why the labels choose a mechanism that produces money(making bands pay for ghostwriter and costumes from the start means even if they do not sell you get the money plus rights. )

In the past you could have the pop music support risks in underground music, watusi from coldfeet taught me that was the normal in Japan. Big labels would basically say "do whatever you want, we have a budget from the pop sales" but now that is non existent.

It is a case of do not hate the player but hate the game. While I hate fake produced crap I understand it helps prop the scene up until hopefully there is a mass revival amongst all the plastic stuff.

If you enjoy a band, even if they use a ghostwriter that is not bad, life is too short, get any enjoyment you can.
But make sure to support the real underground stuff, even if foreign fan support is 1% of what a band gets.

You would honestly be surprised by some of the bands using ghostwriters, I am here and have been shocked honestly. But I love VK so much to have dedicated my life to it, even if some elitist views are uncomfortable to you f@ck it, just listen to what you want to, but realize the scene is full of lots of bands not making their own stuff.

Recently I tweeted in Japanese about these feelings towards the current seen and got around 600 likes, had lots of people DMing me saying they feel the same, but one person who does ghostwriter work got angry, can understand, we all gotta make a living.

Eh, I think a lot of people's definition of "shitty person" seems to be "well, I read something nasty about them someone else said so it's definitely true". Personally, I very rarely believe anything I don't see with my own eyes.

Anyways, more on-topic, I second this:
He was great in Malice Mizer, but he's since just gone really cringy. I mean... the guy admitted that he bought a frickin' mountain just so he could snowboard on it. Yeah, that's not shitty, but it's damn frivolous and just begs the question of why. That said, I think he does that in general.
