seys reacted to TheTrendkiller in DIR EN GREY new single 落ちた事のある空 release summer 2020
I just noticed why the song sounds so familiar. It's because the intro guitar riff is in the same guitar tuning as WTD, TMOAB and UROBOROS. If you compare the intro riff to songs like Dozing Green then you will hear the similarity. It's because the lowest note is C#. So how do they play the even lower chorus riff? I actually think that they completely changed their guitar tuning for this song. IMO they now use 7 string guitars where the lowest string is tuned to G# and then they have their "old" Drop C# 6 string guitar tuning on top. So either this is completely new or I wasn't aware of it yet but doing it totally makes sense to me. Now they can basically play any song of that era without having to switch guitars back and forth. Not sure why didn't do that earlier tbh

seys reacted to BrenGun in History of Visual Kei? Nagasawa Tomonori teached us a little bit about it!
vkgy latest interview, with a famous vkei writer!
Also I worked hard on this one so it's a cross post with JROCKNROLL
Nagasawa Tomonori (長澤智典) is a music journalist of note, having written for most major visual kei magazines and bands. We had the chance to ask him questions over several weeks, and so we explore his career, and his decades-long view of visual kei from the inside.

If there are people who still have any questions about the "visual kei" history, we can do another round
So if you do have any questions, throw them to me and I'll will ask them!

seys reacted to Himeaimichu in Y2K Aesthetic in Visual Kei Thread
Recently, I've been getting more interested in the Y2K aesthetic. For those who don't know, the Y2K aesthetic is a collective term for the sleek futurism of the late 90's and early 2000's that manifested itself in music videos, fashion, and technology.
As Aesthetic Wiki puts it, "Y2K is an aesthetic that was most prevalent from roughly 1998 to 2003. Y2K aesthetics are often characterized by a distinct aesthetic period, encapsulating fashion, hardware design, music and furnishings shiny with tech optimism – sometimes literally. According to the Y2K Institute, some of Y2K's aspects include, tight leather pants, silver eye-shadow, shiny clothing, Oakleys, gradients, and Blobjects and Blobitecture. Most of Y2K aesthetics rely on the use of technology and slick futuristic looks, signaling the optimism a new era as people approached the millennium".
This thread is to discuss the use of the Y2K aesthetic in Visual Kei.
One of my favourite examples is the iconic music video for Yokan by Dir en Grey. This pretty much speaks for itself
And while this is definitely past the era of Y2K, the music video for Mikansei to GUILT by Phantasmagoria is definitely influenced by Y2k futurism.

I'm not a big fan of their new song, but today's livestreamed gig was pretty sick! Never knew these guys were such a cool live band.

seys reacted to Peace Heavy mk II in Quitting
It has come to my attention that I have nothing left to share with this board. While most people leave quietly unless they aim to make their departure a publicity stunt, I feel that saying goodbye to a forum where I've more or less spent every day for the past 10 years is the least I could do.
I've made a lot of good friends here, had fun as a mod for like 15 minutes, and loved being an official reviewer. In spite of all of that, I cannot help but feel it is time I move on.
I do not plan on fully deleting my account so I can still leech, but if you'd like to chat about music you can find me:
-On Twitter
-On the VKGY discord
-Adding scans and lyrics to ZombiexJuice
-Making half-assed unboxing videos of rejected vkei maxi-singles
It's been fun 💋
