  1. Seeing as we've been on the subject of gender and whatnot for the past few days now, I guess it's only fitting that I'd wake up (at about 3:30pm) to this.

tbh idk if suspending him for 3 weeks is the appropriate response.  like, tbh i don’t think that teacher knew enough about the subject to actually handle the situation. intersex is biology, and biology is scientific.  what would the kid have said if it was explained to him that way?

the other side of it is, regardless of his intent, it is incredibly taxing, disheartening, and extremely exhausting to be invalidated by someone saying “no, you’re wrong and the way you present yourself is made-up.” hearing this kind of thing over and over again is a pretty common experience for nb and trans folk.  i mean, imagine your entire existence being brought into question, your entire existence made into some dumb political debate when it doesn’t need to be.  at the end of the day, who cares?  invalidation is definitely a contributing factor in trans/nb folk committing suicide.  i’m not really sure how else to explain it.

at most, i imagine that whatever someone who genuinely believes there are only two genders experiences when confronted  with the other side of this feels is angry or annoyed.  this kid’s existence isn’t being questioned.  being told your opinion is harmful isn’t the same thing as being told that you’re wrong for wanting to be content in how you present yourself.

it’s sort of difficult to explain this.  it’s sort of like how a white guy won’t ever know what it’s like to be black, or a straight guy won’t know what it feels like to be gay.  cis people can’t know what it feels like to be trans/nb, and i have absolutely no idea what it feels like to be cis.  i hope this makes sense, tho.  i’m just trying to weigh in on the other side of things.  again, i do feel like a 3 week suspension is excessive, especially given the staff’s seemingly i’ll equipped manner in handling the initial situation.

I completely agree with Seikun on this, I normally like to talk about sex and not gender, otherwise it gets too confusing as we stray too much from science and go into philosophical discussions about existence that are completely pointless nowadays because 99% of the population will repeat "well, that is your opinion" like a parrot instead of questioning any belief they have.

Not to be insensitive, I'm merely trying to educate myself a bit, buy can anyone explain how trans people are a whole "third" gender? I thought they were transsexual as in making a transition to their sex of birth (A) to the sex they really are (B), not a whole different sex altogether. Like... don't get me wrong, but if they are born sex A and are struggling to be sex B, isn't it invalidating to say "nah, you aren't B, you are C"? Or do they identify as sex B but as gender C?

I always kinda saw gender as a spectrum where you could lean more to one side or the other of it and I thought gender fluid meant you moved through that spectrum a lot whereas regular cis people didn't. At least that's how I interpreted it when I started questioning myself. and I thought NB people where kind of in the middle of the spectrum being all 'I'm really neither so I'm good, thx". But the whole "third gender" thing really confuses the shit out of me :S

Pls, don't rule me out as transphobic again, I'm just trying to learn :C

i’ve never heard a trans person refer to themselves as a third gender.  i’m not really sure what it is you mean.  are you talking about non-binary folk?  if you are, from my understanding non-binary refers to being all, neither, or some fluctuation of genders. but i still haven’t heard that referred to as being a third gender.  🤔
