Currently playing (as well as all of you gamers on MH) Final Fantasy XV.

Jesus this game is hard to put down. Already have 8 hours into this game, and I'm barely level 13 lol. I've been staying up late trying to play this.
I've been fishing a lot, and scouring for materials for weapons. Barely 4-5 bounties in.
The filthiest of casuals right here.

Compare that to my brother, who is level 18.
Already has level 4 bounty hunter status.
    A crapload of better gear.
Already Murked and destroyed high level bosses, including that LV 52-53 FUCKING ARAMUSHA THE SAMURAI, when he was level 14.
    Barely on chapter 2.

Reading through these responses is kind of depressing. It seems we've all had bad reactions when introducing other people to VK. I've gotten so tired of standing there while people insult what I love just because they can't or won't understand it, that I just don't talk about it with other people anymore. If anyone asks what I listen to, I just tell them symphonic metal or symphonic rock, since that's the area of VK I listen to the most. Frankly, it's not really their business what I listen to anyway.

wildjokerleia reacted to cvltic in lynch.'s Akinori arrested, departs band (12/20)
Wataru's original charge was assault and the fact that he settled out of court seemed to help him, they didn't really see a decline that was caused by his case imo. (hilariously for me 12012 was the band I stanned before lynch. so this whole arrest thing is getting old now...) as for how much an anti-social/societal act impacts things, it really depends on the nature of the act -- if we presume Sankei Sports' source is legit and then further presume it was just possession it's kinda hard to say,  while celebs in Japan are getting nailed for kakuseizai/meth all the time and many of them do resume activities, we have only a small sample size in VK: Daishi (unknown sentence for kakuseizai), Imai Hisashi (6 month sentence for LSD), sakura (2 year sentence for kakuseizai)...  I can't think of anymore. + their cases are pretty varied, clearly.

anyway tanuki has devolved into"he stole a fishing boat (because he loves fishing) (LEL GOTTEM BOIS)" and "he LYNCHED SOMEBODY GET IT??????" and there was a weird Elvis-sighting type of rumor so i doubt anything solid is going to come out of them anytime soon

wildjokerleia reacted to hiroki in [Band Battle] Chanty vs. cinema staff
well i'm embarrassingly ignorant of j-indies but i do listen to a fair bit of poppy vk vocalists so for what it's worth: i can possibly see how some people might think the cinema staff vocalist sounds vk-ish, although personally i wouldn't think so myself.  i think the distinction is quite tricky because as much as people often associate theatricality with vk, you can find similar qualities manifesting in j-indies in another manner: e.g. the intense/"shrill" kind of execution, and on the other extreme of the spectrum, the "aloof", lounge-y, "flat" delivery. it's probably fair to say that the cinema staff doesn't fall into either of these brackets, so maybe that's why they don't sound as ostensibly 'j-indies'?

to me there's still a discernible j-indies inflection in his vocals though, quite similar to those you find in pop-rock bands like NEXX, [Alexandros], and Fo'xTails - i dunno if they are j-indies (probably not) although they definitely aren't vk haha. that said, he does remind me a little of UNiTE's Yui - but even his style of vocals is kind of a rarity in vk. actually i feel that most of the bigger pop-vk bands (Guild, Anli Pollicino, BB, Dangan, SID, Megamasso, etc.) don't even sound that vk - in that (i) people who aren't familiar with vk won't be immediately turned off, (ii) there's little common ground between their vocalists.  there are exceptions like the BPR bands; Royz probably comes closest to what i'll associate with a 'vk pop sound' if there was ever one.

of course, a lot of these are based on broad-brush stereotypes that don't do any justice to either scene imo. across both scenes, vocals vary to such an extent that even if you take some kind of a weighted average (assuming that was even possible) it's still not representative of the scene as a whole. that's also why it's easy to find correspondences, although i tend not to make too much of them.

i also haven't voted because i'm not that familiar with either band (my  interest in chanty only extends as far as hoarding shia chekis.. oops)

    alright!

i've only been studying japanese on and off since about spring, but i've found one program that really  boosted my learning and gave me an amazing introduction to the language.
    that program is Human Japanese!
the program is made by an english speaker, for english speakers. the author goes incredibly in-depth in every chapter, and in a way even the simplest of minds can grasp (like myself!) and in the most interactive, fun way possible.
the two programs, Human Japanese and Human Japanese Intermediate, have been the smoothest possible ride for me. i've just barely started Human Japanese Intermediate, but even by just completing its predecessor, i've learned a learned a good amount of grammar, the kana, vocabulary, fun cultural lessons and notes, as well as some small, nitty-gritty things about the language. i can't wait to get off my ass and finish HJ Intermediate because i know once i do, i'll be well on my way with this language!
i can't recommend this product enough, honestly. please note, the full versions do cost money, so give the trial a test run and see if you like it! (but i can almost guarantee you'll get sucked in right away, just as i was, and will end up buying the program.)

teamed with Human Japanese, i've recently (as in, four days ago) picked up an Android app called Japanese Kanji Study - 漢字学習 (i believe it's available on iOS as well). in the four days i've used this app, i've got 80 kanji under my belt. i can recognize and write nearly all of those 80.
only the N5 kanji are available for free. it costs $9.99 CAD to get the rest of the JLPT kanji, but i think it's worth it. i personally have not yet bought the full version as i'm not finished learning the N5 kanji, but as soon as i grasp those, i'll be buying the full version.
the app is a pretty standard drilling/quizzing app, but it does its job. i can't really cover everything it offers in words, so i suggest you download it and give it a shot!

    http://ejje.weblio.jp/sentence/
weblio's example translation corpus is highly underrated and i use it all the time for professional translation work because it has examples from daily conversation, business emails, novels, history books, contracts and law, etc etc. you can input English or Japanese, so if you need to know how something is expressed in Japanese or don't understand the meaning of a Japanese construction, try pasting it here and see how it's been translated by others. i started using this when i did shitty 12012 blog translations and i never looked back

    http://jn2et.com/JLPT.html
if you're studying at an intermediate+ level you might find that Japanese explanations of grammar constructions are much more useful for understanding the minutiae between similar constructions, i used this one a fair bit in conjunction with jgram.org & japanesetest4you.com.

a good ass portal site for Japanese learner resources

to close and as a semi-introduction, hi, i do freelance jp>en translation and i just completed a "high level" japanese course at Nagoya University.
i'm definitely not a master and still have plenty to learn myself but if there's questions feel free to post them there and i'll see if any texts i have can provide a satisfying answer -- i'm sure other learners will happily pool their resources too.
i'm pretty good at バンギャ用語 too if you're trying to read naughty messages about bandmen in forbidden message boards, so if you have questions about that i'm happy to help here or via PM lol

For getting into Plastic Tree's newer sound, I'd say Nega to Poji is a very good starter, it's actually what got me into them. As for their older stuff, either Puppet Show or cell.

D'espairs Ray's [coll:set] is still one of the best '00 VK albums ever released so you should definitely give that one a spin

Buck-Tick has gone through several different eras and sounds, but they've been consistently good, so just check anything. Personally really love their albums SEXY STREAM LINER, Mona Lisa Overdrive, 13kai wa Gekkou and Memento Mori though

Maximum The Hormone - Their last 2 full length albums are pretty much the best things they've done. 100% stay away from their very, very first release, it's pretty bad

Pierrot's Finale and Private Enemy are pretty damn great IMO, worth listening to

Pierrot (at least late Pierrot) from what I remember, are really nice and catchy pop-punk.

I like their late-early era, which is when they were becoming mega popular and were pit against Dir en Grey to be the next face of visual-kei. Less pop-punk than when they called it quits, but definitely more playful than a lot of bands at the time.
