sakuran reacted to ShanethVarosa in #76: Gackt - Last Moon
| A fitting conclusion to the Moon Saga arc.
It has been around 7 years since the king of visual solo artists has released an album. Granted, that album was basically a singles collection, but I digress. This would be enough to excite almost anyone, especially a hardcore fan of the man who worked with some of the most legendary visual artists.
Gackt is one to focus a lot on themes in his albums and over the course of his decade-plus long solo career he has created three albums with the moon as the theme and primary focus. Beginning with 'Crescent' and followed up with 'Moon', he brings us the final installment in this series, 'Last Moon.' A pretty stellar thematic series of albums and other work, including the film "Moon Child" with Hyde from L'Arc~en~Ciel and VAMPS!
The album is supposed to be set in ancient Japan and the music and related videos have presented that visual quite well. The lead single, having been released 9 years ago, was named 'Returner' and utilized some of the musical stylings from earlier songs such as 'Mind Forest' and definitely continued this theme perfectly. Other singles also brought out the traditional Japanese elements including hard-hitter "斬 ~Zan~", mid-tempo ballad "暁月夜 -Day Breakers-" (Akatsukizukuyo -Day Breakers-), and over-the-top dramatic masterpiece and album-closer "雪月花 -The end of silence-" (Setsugekka -The end of silence-). Even some of the new songs fit in with the elements of composition including "花も散ゆ" (Hanamo Chiyu), "傀儡が如く" (Kugutsu ga Gotoku), and "キミだけのボクでいるから" (Kimi Dake no Boku de Iru Koto), thus making the album largely cohesive and consistent.
The remaining songs, while either catchy and fun or dramatic and emotional, don't fit with the theme of ancient Japan. "P.S. I Love You" is romantic and displays incredible vocal prowess but is clearly based on the 2007 film of the same name. It's B-Side "Ride or Die" conjures up the images of modern motorcycles while randomly selected B-side "One More Kiss" deserves no place on this album. These songs both helped and hurt the album at the same time. For example, I'm not sure why a song like "舞哈Baby!!" (Wuha Baby) and "恋のFriday!!!" (Koi no Friday) were included in a concept album as they're clearly just pop-rock songs, but they did help the album from being too much of the same thing.
Otherwise, the album is phenomenal and one of the best albums I've heard this year. It proves that Gackt still has vocal ability like you wouldn't believe. I just truly hope this isn't his last musical effort.

I received my goodies today!! Extremely, extremely satisfied. I'm a very happy customer! (ignore shitty picture quality, oh my god)
As @hiroki noted first, the webshop is extremely well done, despite being new. Navigation was brilliant and I found everything I wanted in less than a minute. Placing my order and sending the payment was also a breeze!
My order was processed quickly and shipped. When it was, I received an email containing my tracking number. Tracking numbers make me a happy girl.
It shipped out on Monday, May 30th. It delivered today, June 2nd. Super speedy shipping for a super cheap price!! Being Canadian, we're often on the worse end when it comes to shipping and prices. I've never had anything come in less time than a week and a half. Man, I've never been more satisfied!
Everything came in a secure envelope, and inside were my CDs packed nicely in bubble wrap. They were completely protected! My chekis were also in a little plastic bag, keeping them safe.
The BLAZE and Deviloof flyers were also a pleasant surprise! More things to put on my wall!
Overall, I'm very very happy with my experience at V Star Promotion, and I recommend them wholeheartedly. 11/10. 5 stars. May I also note that @Suuu is very lovely to work with, despite busy schedules! Very patient and helpful!

Got my parcel today! Ok I'm so in love with the BLESSCODE photoset in particular... i had assumed they were just normal (L-sized) photos, but amazingly they turned out to be postcard-sized
Feedback:
Buying from v star was an extremely pleasant experience despite them being a new webshop. The web interface was user-friendly, intuitive, and simple to navigate. Suuu was tremendously helpful and responded promptly to all queries or clarifications. Considering the very busy schedules of the v star staff, I was pleased with how fast my order had been processed, packed and shipped. Packaging-wide i was also thoroughly satisfied. Both the photosets and chekis were packed separately in a plastic wrap, and the CD secured nicely with bubble wrap (not in photo). There were also 2 flyers included, as well as a handwritten thank-you note, which was a really sweet gesture on v star's part
Overall, highly recommended! I'd definitely order from them again. Thank you @Suuu

Kei and yo-ka look amazing as always, and while I get what sort of effect they were aiming for with this lighting, I hope we get some photos where I can see everything properly later on. (Seriously Ains, I'm sick of your shitty "effects"!)

sakuran got a reaction from orange~ in [Band Battle] MEJIBRAY vs. 八十八ヶ所巡礼 (88kasyo junrei)
I hadn't listened to 88kasyou before this thread, and in fairness I tried out both of their songs before making a decision; while I don't think they're bad by any means, they're just not my cup of tea, personally (especially the vocals). I'm also one of the few people that's actually still enjoying Meji's releases for the most part (even if some tracks have been boring, even for me), so while they may be getting tired/boring/formulaic, I still listen to them. I wouldn't necessarily say their looks are going downhill either, they've just been doing some new/different things with every release, and again, I may not like every single one, but overall I'm not unhappy with it. They might not be the same good old Meji from "back in the day," but I like them anyway.
tl;dr Mejibray for me.

sakuran reacted to BangyaWanabii in ジン (Zin)
Oh my god one of my most favorite bands.
Riku's vocals are really good. His voice is high but it's not too high and his screaming is pretty well done. They're a good mix of heavy and light if you don't like too much screaming in your music.
I think they're a good band to start with tbh. Their melodies are catchy and the shamisen in the background always makes everything sound pretty.

sakuran got a reaction from Kiryu999 in 凛 (lin) 1st vs 2nd period
I'm going to miss Misery so much if he doesn't do anything else after this. He was also one of my favorite things about 2nd period.
-
sakuran reacted to Serox in 凛 (lin) 1st vs 2nd period
I love both .. but if I have to choose, I would say that the "first" period because it reminds me of Phantasmagoria.. they are my favorite band ever.. çwç I love so much the voice of Riku! ^^
PS: I'm really sorry for Sui.. he is a very good singer.. I can not believe he seriously decided to retire from the music industry! T__T and now what will Misery? he has always been at the side of Sui for more than 10 years! I hope not also decide to retire because he is a great guitarist and I love his super melodic guitar solos! ;(

sakuran reacted to Kiryu999 in 凛 (lin) 1st vs 2nd period
1st period. Love Riku's voice, I never liked Sui's vocals. And they released such good songs during the first lineup! 2nd period isn't bad but idk their songs were different and just didn't do it for me, Misery was the only new member that made me stick to them tho, very good guitarist.

I like a LOT more than what I listed in my profile. I just can't be bothered to remember it all right now. That's what Last.fm is for! lol.
I remembered that I fancy key party and matina label stuff a lot. Noir Fleurir, Madeth Gray'll, Schwardix Mavally, Aliene Ma'riage, Missalina Rei, speed-id, and Eliphas Levi.

sakuran reacted to BangyaWanabii in Hey ya'll
Hey! Obviously I'm new here haha.
I'm Sara, you can call me by name or by my username or whatever (my username is a joke btw... though I don't know if I'm considered bangya anyways just by default).
I'm mostly here to talk about Vkei, though I do like other Jrock. I just happen to live in Japan and going to lives is my hobby (it takes up so much money it's pretty much my only hobby). I don't really go see any bigger bands, except Nocturnal Bloodlust but even they're still small compared to some. I usually go to Nagoya lives (I will go to Osaka or Tokyo for special occasions, I recently went to Kansai Rock Summit in Osaka since so many bands were playing!). I like ジン, Smileberry, Sick2, BFN (before they disbanded obv), Elysion, MeteoroiD, FED, 真天地開闢集団ジグザグ (saw them for the first time in Osaka this past Sunday, they were incredibly live!), and a lot more I can't think of.
Anyways, I know all the bands I go to are smaller but if you guys want live reports I'd be happy to do it. I'm excited to listen to more Jrock outside of Vkei but also of course welcome vkei recs if you have any!
