Your opinion on "no pictures" policy on overseas lives

I'm of the opinion that we should respect the bands wishes and not the other way around. I don't really care how much money you spent on a V.I.P ticket or whatever else.  The band doesn't have to tour in your country at all.  I think of the situation the same way I do for movie theater's. Cell phones are a distraction and should be put away until afterwards. Besides it's such a simple request. Why fight the band on it?

On the other hand, without the fans then bands wouldn't be able to earn a living.

If you treat your fans poorly then don't be surprised when the rug's pulled from underneath you.

So, like I said. Little of column A, little of column B.

I guess so but I don't believe disallowing pictures is "treating fans poorly" just my opinion.

When I just was into VK and went to a few concerts in my country I always tried to take a photo. Because of the memories? Because of... idk actually it is many many many years ago.

But somehow I learnt to not do it anymore. Almost no one does it here for some reason. (I said almost) People enjoy the gig at the fullest. It's really nice! (But maybe it is because most gigs have only 30 people or so....)

Me taking one single blurry pic to brag on facebook later isn't going to kill anyone.

But I hate dumb cameras/phones in front of me the whole show.

This. Not so hard to understand the middle term. a shitty pic I took on my cellphone isn't going to make any band to go broke. Besides, the 10 sec I spent doing that won't gonna stop me from enjoying the concert, neither is going to bother other fans and such.

Yeah, people here have a curious idea of consumer/producer relations. A band is a content producer, their product is music and related media. We are consumers, and like EVERYTHING else in the world, they do what they do JUST TO please us, or better saying, just to have the most of our money as possible. So don't fool yourself, we are in charge here.

aaaaanyway...

Funny how MERRY allowed pictures for one day at their "Heijitsu no Yuu" live because Yuu wanted to do so. There's a bunch of pictures and videos floating about on Twitter, it's crazy.

i'm one of these people who thinks it's disrespectful to break a rule whether you agree with the rule existing or not. like if you're a fan of the band then respect their rules even if the rules are made by their shitty management who just want to make more money. rules are rules.

but then i've also been known to sneak a photo at tower records instore since there are no chekis (aaaand sneak photos if i see band guys i like in the street but does this count?). BUT i don't go sharing the photo around trying to get more follows on my blog/facebook page/etc, i just keep it to myself and look at it and maybe show some close friends like awh look good times. like i don't think it's a major issue if you take one or two photos when you're not supposed to if you're only taking them to look at by yourself and remember the day. but when you're blocking the view at a show with your stupid phone and posting your photos all over the internet like LOOK AT ME GIVE ME ATTENTION it's different.

the first time i went to a vk show (which was in europe) and i discovered that they don't allow photos like other artists i had seen before i was of course disappointed but i respected the rules and found out i actually enjoyed the show a lot more not constantly looking at my camera to check if i got any good shots and just living in the moment actually watching the show and paying attention to the music.

I cant lie, I'm one those people who try and at least get a couple pics or vids in just for memories sake. I like having those lil mementos on deck just in case i wanna go back and relive the moment later on.  I see no harm in this. In my opinion, if a band/staff asks that no sort of thing goes on at their shows, I don't see what the big deal is.

You can still do it because you're your own person and they aren't your parents. But IF and only IF you get caught by staff, and suffer some kind repercussion such as being escorted or called out by the band (Yes, i've heard of this happening), you aren't in the right to get mad.  It was clearly stated. It did grate my nerves a bit to see people recording during the GazettE show after there was a big ass announcement prior that it was forbidden. Based on what i've read about what happened to people who got caught, a lil part of me wanted to see it happen with my own eyes but it didn't and they're pretty lucky.

With that said, I do think that overseas bands should of lighten up on the policy because at the end of the day, they aren't loosing out on anything in hindsight. So i can also understand why people feel like the policy is silly. And some way some how people will find a way to record regardless. Look at how many recordings of the Gaze World Tour that have surfaced online. And there's nothing they can do. Even if Sony/PSC did a massive wipe out on YT, the shit will still exist on people's phones and harddrives lmaoo.

So in general, do what you want but it also doesn't hurt to try and adhere to what's asked.

I can somewhat understand why the band's wouldn't want people to record their lives but taking pictures is different. A few pics with them hardly in it will not at all take any hits to their or the company's wallets. People will still pay for good quality photos of the band. The same can be said for footage of the concert, but I understand not wanting that more so than the pictures being taken.

In the end though it is the band's rules, even if they can be stupid or weird, so it's probably a good idea to try to follow the rules.... It's not really the end of the world if you don't though.

I love the "no pictures" policy, but hate people, who try to take them anyway. Like someone else who posted in this thread, I'm a very short person (154cm), so I can barely see anything even without that. Since I don't go to the front, I have to stay in the back and if someone takes out their phone to take photos, it pisses me off. I hardly go to the concerts anymore, but when I used to, it always annoyed me how much people misbehaved there. They don't care about the band's wishes, they care even less about the comfort of anyone around them.

During one of the lives I went to, I stood on a chair in the back, to be able to see anything. Soon after that, some kids pushed themselves in, next to me, almost making me fall. One of them took a camera out and I almost knocked it down when I was waving my arms during the concert. Its strap got caught on my finger, so she was very lucky it didn't fall and break. There was simply not enough space to take photos.

Professional photographers also tend to get in my view, which I dislike... there should be space between the stage and the audience, where the photographers come and take photos during the first few songs. It really disturbs shorter people when they stand in front of them.

In my opinion "no-pictures" is a good thing. All the J-rock gigs/event's I've been in different countries (EU, Japan) has been having the same policy. Many times in EU I've been sadly seen the audience still taking pictures/video during the show despite the "no-photo" announcements before the gig and signs in the venue and it really makes me sad. After all, if you take the picture now you might never look back it again...

Nowadays it just feels that people are living through their smartphones and everyone is just concentrating to take pictures instead of the live itself. And for the artist... I guess "no-photos" is their asking and they're asking audience/fans to respect this. Band is selling photos that really look good and  are clear. It's part of their merchandise too - that'show they earn their money. If I was the performer on the stage I wouldn't want my pictures taken during the show by audience 'cause of the bad angles, sweating (sometimes that much that the make-up melts away) and the show itself that is going on.

And if you're in the VK gig you should be busy headbanging or making furi's XD
