    WRITE-UP:

Matenrou Opera returns with an album that tastes like a concept album, yet leaves the over-all decision on whether it is or isn`t up to your interpretation.

The term Avalon refers to a place in so-called Arthurian legend, where both the Excalibur was forged, and legendary knights as well as King Arthur himself was buried. Some speculate it to be an island off the coast of Scotland and Wales.

The album is laden with sounds reminiscent of Medieval times, and song titles refer to heaven or paradise, which Avalon is a gateway to; that is where the concept album feel plays in, yet the songs actually tell varied tales which can not always be played in to the album`s title, and the inclusion of the previous single A-Side Orb further leads us astray.

Concept album or not, this album is definitely not a collection of different tracks or hits thrown together. It plays more like a film cut into different parts, telling different stories, but almost always fitting a certain feel, and that is the experience you get from this album. It has a common title, but the experience is a unique one. The `Opera` touch of the delivery along with a unique vocalist matched with a hard band delivers a one-of-a-kind experience, and I think that is really what you are getting from this album. It`s not another rock album, not another VK album, it is something of its own, and you need to sample the singles from the album to see if you will enjoy this experience. One key thing to keep in consideration is if you like the vocalist and delivery, as this is a comon point of divergence amongst opinion.

To me, this more of a sit-down and listen album rather than something you can throw on, although tracks like Orb, 隣に座る太陽 and クロスカウンターを狙え are the tracks I would think you are likely to throw on as stand-alone listens. The album doesn`t use hooks or catches as much as you would expect from a modern album, if you want a comparison, I would say it is more like Versailles from a different era.

    Track Count: 12
    Listens: 15-20
Production Quality: Great sound, yet my personal preference is for a wider sound stage and more clarity in individual intruments, esp. more of the guitars.Though they seem to specifically like putting emphasis on the vocals.

Overall Rating: Great album, defined, unique experience, listening on the I will skip some tracks, but if I want to let it play out there are no skip-inducing tracks.

    Worth the Purchase?
For me, this is definitely worth the purchase. Although it is not an album that will get the most rotation. It is something I will keep in my library and bring out on occasion.

    Hi everybody !

First, since english isn't my mother tongue, I apologise for any mistakes !

So, I'm Lustair (from ex.Lamiel Yuina's band), I'm french and in visual kei since quite a long time now...
I spent the last 7years exploring more and more deeply into the visual kei history until the point that I can't find bands I never listened to any more... But they still remain !
There is a lot (all pretty old and absolutely not famous indies bands, like "La fille male garder"), It just became very difficult to find any CDs or demo tape any more.
By the way, I'm not in the current visual kei scene except few bands like emmurée, ・・・。[silence], ALSDEAD (I can't explain why but I like this band since the release of "puzzle"...), Lynch, and the godfathers like DEADEND, Luna sea, Kuroyume.
In my opinion currently there is quite interesting bands too but they all sound the same for me cause' of the chords they use and the vocalists do too much and don't sound natural at all.
But of course I'm still following the visual kei scene's news.

I didn't use english for a long time, I think it will become better with a bit of practice...!

    Nice to meet you !

Technically the last thing I bought was a vegan kebab.

But the last thing that really mattered was, of course, the Born x Lycaon's tour shirt

because I realised that without LastFM and buying merch I forget which bands I've seen live...

Matenrou Opera is my all-time favorite band, love them sooo much. I have been listening to AVALON some times now, and must say that it's not quite as good as Justice or Kassai to Gekijou no Gloria, although it is very good, something just doesn't click like in Gloria, for example, where in my opinion every song is just amazing, but still fits together with the other ones. Actually Tonari ni Suwari Tayou wasn't that good of a single (and what's with the cover art, soo ugly), so my expectations weren't even this high anyway my favorite songs so far are Tengoku no Tobira, Kagayaki wa Senkou no Youni and 3 Jikan, oh and Tengoku no Aro Basho, it's just so epic. The first-press fancy-carboard-box-cover for AVALON is very cool in my opinion, and since I ordered it from CDJapan, as a first press bonus I got a photoshoot, and you's, anzi's and Ayame's photos were signed <3<3

Don't know if this is a good place for this kind of game, please move if necessary.

I have a bunch of edited guitar solos lying on my HDD so I guess we can have some fun - do you know who's playing?

I'm not asking you for a name of the guitarist (I don't know that, most of the time). The band/song will be sufficient.

    The first solo.

I'll post the next one after it's guessed.
    RULES:
    01. I prefer this topic to move at somewhat fast pace, so let's say two full days since posting is max period of leaving your solo here unguessed.
    02. When you post the next solo, you shouldn't give any hints from the get-go and give it one day. After that, if we're still struggling with it, you can hint as much as you want, if you think it's needed.
    03. Sound samples can not include vocal parts (well, maybe some very minor ones, if they're interlacing with a solo)
    04. You can repeat a band that was here already - if you really want to - but let's try to be as much diversive as we can.
    05. Vk, metal, anime opening - anything goes, as long as it's Japan-related.
    06. It doesn't really have to be a guitar solo!
    07. If you won and don't want to post the next solo yourself, drop me a PM and I'll do it for you.
    08. If, after two days, your solo still isn't guessed, just name the full song and let me know - I'll post the next one.
    09. The preferred service for uploading solos is Soundcloud, as I think no one has any trouble using it. If you have a better idea, let me know.
    10. If I'm not responding when I should in a reasonable timeframe, I'm probably dead and I pass my duties to any mod willing to do this.

    Cool topic, bruh.

Some of my personal faves include:

    Versailles - God Palace
If I had to pick, this would probably be my favorite Versailles track.  It helps that it's so full of bombastic grandeur.

    Lamp - シンフォニー
After a few years, Lamp came back with their newest album and showed a side of their sound, drenched in dreamy synths.  The result is beautiful and this opening track is the perfect gateway into this new era.

    DIV - VANISH
I thinks there's some other fellow fans of this opener here.  It starts off mellow-cholic, before building up into a barrage of epicness.  It's also special to me, because this album was what officially solidified me as a DIV fan.  I was on and off the fence for them for the preceding singles, but this opening track made me just sit back and go "Well, damn.  They're awesome."

    ねごと (NEGOTO) - サイダーの海
Dat piano pop.  NEGOTO hits the ground running right from the get-go on their debut album.

    椎名林檎 (Shiina Ringo) -ギャンブル
Extravagant, orchestral Ringo is my favorite Ringo. Plus, Gamble happens to be one of my favorite songs, so...

After reflecting on this list, it seems I prefer an in-your-face opening track that cuts to the chase and immediately shows what the band/artist is all about.
