My last gig was also a synthwave gig.

Gost kicked it off with one hell of a show, and the audience was absolutely mad despite the fact that he started playing at 8pm. It was like magic from beginning to end with the entire crowd going mad. Dancing, singing, headbanging, jumping and whatnot. It was a beast of a gig with Gost himself being behind the synths, sometimes with a guitar in hand, sometimes with a mic. He was high, he was low, he was in front and he was at the back. Just everywhere, all the time. Brilliant and everything I had hoped for, and even more.

Carpenter Brut was the headliner, and in some unexplainable way they actually topped Gost with a gig that's nothing short of breathtaking. While never as dark or brutal as Gost can be, the mood was much of the same with the entire audience (sold out for the evening!) dancing, singing, headbanging, jumping and whatnot. Insanely good gig.

Also, playing a cover of Maniac and asking the audience to sing along could've easily have been an embarrassing affair, but they made it into something truly special. Amazing!

I hope this opens up for more synthwave gigs in Norway in the coming time, and considering it was sold out a month before the gig I'm pretty sure it will be.

It shouldn't be too long until the new Sigh album is out now. Anyone got any expectations? They had one last rehearsal before going into the studio on the 27th of January, so they're slowly getting there.

On other news. I was browsing a Norwegian auction site late last night and suddenly saw a man in my town selling Sigh's Desolation and both versions of Tragedies for a very, very good price. Sent him a mail and woke up to "all yours", which means 10 years of intense searching is over. I've talked to people who've had these for sale over the years, but the prices have been too high. The last time I found Desolation the guy was asking for $125 which is a bit more than I am willing to pay. This time however I get all three tapes along with one Abigail, Urfaust and Noctiferum for about $160. Which is a very decent price tbh.

He also had other Abigail and Sigh releases, so I asked about them. Will get Abigail's Eastern Force Of Evil and Intercourse And Lust if they are different versions than those I've already got. Might get another copy of Sigh/Kawi split just for the hell of it.

Anyway, can't wait to go and get Tragedies x2 and Desolation. Holy fuckity fuck!

Napalm Death! Some really old pictures. I think they were 12 years old on the picture where they're holding the punk zines. Cool shit.

This was so good I almost shat my pants. By far the best song off the new album. Great video again too.

Believe it or not, but some fucking weirdos actually listen to music for the sake of the music, the sound the bands or artists make, rather than the lyrical content or meaning behind the songs. Crazy shit I know, but that is actually the truth. Some people actually go so far they judge music based on the music, and not how deep or well-written the lyrics are. What a mess of a world we're living in. Complete and utter insanity amirite?

Rick Rubin has tons of fantastic production jobs on his CV. Like, tons (Radio, Raising Hell, Reign in Blood, Licensed to Ill, Electric, Danzig, Tougher Than Leather, Danzig II: Lucifuge, Trouble and Blood Sugar Sex Magik just to mention a few of his works where he truly shines.). There's a reason why his this acclaimed and considered one of the very best producers ever, but it's also his creative side and how he made bands and artists perform their best and make smart choices as where to go next in their career. It's only in "recent times " that he's gone full retard with his productionjobs. His works in the past however. Holy moly!

It's already posted in two threads, but one or five more won't hurt. Cover art is just sensational, as is the track. Starts off as a 80's Iron Maiden epic before it moves into more familiar territory as far as Sigh goes, but like always they've made something that's very different from everything they've done before, as well as what other bands have and currently are doing.

Love that 70's prog inspired middle section as well. Gorgeous! The ending with the Iron Maiden-esque riff and the clean vocals are the best thing I've heard all year long. Dear God!

And while Shinichi Ishikawa is still my all time favourite guitarist, the addition of You Oshima as his replacement was a work of genius tbh. You can hear he's really put his own style into this song, and both his style of riffing and especially solos are excellent. Judging from this song, he's a bit more relaxed and controlled this time around. While I did grow into loving his guitar playing on Graveward, he might have wanted to do a bit too much with the solos.

That's an album that hasn't aged very well at all. It's like they got tired of thrash metal after one single album and decided they were gonna become a MTV band. Only The Ultra-Violence and Kill as One are real!

The band was very young at the time of this release, but the drummer Andy Galeon  was 12 fucking years old as this was recorded. That is insane! Singer Mark Osegueda was 15 years old.

It's also pretty insane that the drummer was only 14 years old during the recording of their debut album, an album that has clearly stood the test of time and is getting better as it gets older. One of the very best US thrash metal albums of the 80's. Raw and hard, yet catchy as fuck. Just try listening to Kill as One without making a single noise. That shit is hard. Catchy as fuck and with crazy vocals throughout. KILL!! AS!! ONE!!

This is interesting. Sigh is gonna participate in a Death SS tribute, and considering how fucking amazing their Bathory song was I cannot wait to hear their contribution to this. I hope they've made it very Sigh-esque, like they did with the Bathory cover.

There's some other interesting bands here too. I already know a few of them (Denial of God, Watain, Bulldozer, Evil Spirit, Anael and Procession), but I am really keen on hearing some of the others.  L'Impero delle Ombre, Sacro Sanctus, Il Segno del Comando, Epitaph and The Mugshots feat Mortiis could be interesting too. Especially Il Segno del Comando, Sacro Sanctus and L'Impero delle Ombre.

But of course, Sigh is by far the most interesting here as they can be able to match the original song.

Mandy - 2018 is the year that just keeps giving as far as films goes, and Mandy is the last film to truly impress me. After having impressed a lot with the sci-fi horror Beyond the Black Rainbow in 2010  (which I reviewed a few months back), Panos Cosmatos returns with another exceptional and unique film. If you've seen Beyond the Black Rainbow you kinda know what to expect, because Mandy is a weird-ass flick much in the same vain. First hour is syrup-slow and rather out there in an artsy ways, where the main object obviously is to create atmosphere mostly via the use of creative lighting, smoke and some weird-ass effects, because the plot is thin and very much familiar. And Panos Cosmatos is not afraid to use his time, and he's not afraid to let a scene just go on and on without doing anything to it. But the film is visually stunning beyond words, it's over the top violent and extreme and it features a Nicolas Cage who's never been better. That's just one hell of a performance by a man long forgotten. Performance of the decade perhaps?

A fucking beats of a film. By far Nicolas Cage best performance and film ever. FOTY!!!

Fun fact: There is an axe in this film, and the design of the axe is based around the F in Celtic Frost's logo. How fucking badass is that? Exceptional-looking axe too.

Panos Cosmatos has hit two homeruns in two attempts. Clearly the most exciting new director out there atm and one to keep an eye on for sure.

The awful title aside, this song is great and the sound is just amazing. That guitar tone is sexy as fuck, and Nick Holmes is just getting better with each release since he started growling again. Like, I'm one of few(?) who though Holmes did really good on Grand Morbid Funeral, but this time around he sounds even better. I kinda wonder if one of the reasons for that is that GMF was written before Holmes joined the band, and that this is written more to suit his vocals or if he's just gotten used to it again. Or a mix of both maybe? Anyway, good track.

Sicario - Dark, grim and really great thriller with a magnificent Benicio Del Toro that completely steals the show. His performance is on a whole other level in this flick. All aspects of the film is great, but he's the best part of it. And the first scene where the cross the Mexican-American border bak from Juarez. Intense as fuck! Superb!

I found the first season the best one. It helps that I was really familiar with the original pasta, so there's some sentimental value there. I think 3rd season should have followed the original pasta regarding the stairs a bit more, their chosen script for the show was a bit off imo.

Just finished Sharp Objects, and it was entertaining. Amy Adams character is nuanced and complex, really interesting. Can't say the same about the support characters tho, many of them aren't even needed. The story also drags a bit, an episode or two, and there's the classic idiot ball trope now and then, but it's okay on the long run. Shoutout to the mother and sister, they both have some great moments. And don't miss the 2 mid credit scenes on the finale, GREAT STUFF.

^ I agree, I was surprised how good (or at the least, decent) the Channel Zero seasons were! It took me a while to get into the first one, but got to like it very much by the time it ended. The second one was completely different, with a very interesting concept. ...and the third one was just overall prettttty weird, but I loved it, haha.

I'm not the biggest Machine Gun Kelly fan, but Rap Devil was seriously good. Finally someone both man and dumb enough to diss Eminem, a man who's been a massive joke of a rapper for well over a decade now.

    Well done, MGK.

Hope Eminem responds soon. Could turn into some fun drama this.

Channel Zero: Candle Cove - Surprisingly well-crafted horror with an incredible amount of atmosphere, a lot of truly creepy scenes and moments and a very good mystery. I love how it manage to really draw me into the universe in the first episode and keep me there for all six, without every getting boring or uninteresting, like many horror series does. But unlike many of them (Slasher season 1, American Horror Story), this series is only 6x42 minutes long, so there's not much time for filler and regular TV-drama. Such a smart choice! Excellent!

Channel Zero: The No-End House - Very different from the first season, but as good IMO. Another smart choice is to make it really different from the first season while still making it feel like the same series. It's got less focus on atmosphere, but the creep factor is really high and the WTF-moments are many, and huge. Excellent!

Started on season 3, and after a couple of episodes I feel like it's a small step down. But will watch the rest tomorrow and judge for myself. So far there was one moment I just hated. Was so bad! But it's also super interesting, and the plot itself seems really good.

One of the best series on TV the last decade, and another good example that horror DOES have great potential for TV. Stranger Things and Ash vs. Evil Dead is two other great examples on how good horror can be on TV.
