  1. How come no one has mentioned the absences that 2 instruments really made in that PV?

I admire their decision to move forward as 3 members, but this lacked any character and with sho being the only color to the bands sound, I can’t see myself getting into this until they manage to find replacement members.

I’ll agree that it sounded just like Rijin, just missing a huge chunk of sound, almost like listening to it with only one side of a headphone lol.

I always meant to give the Netflix Castlevania a try too, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. Was the first season good? Is it a good introduction for people like me that know literally nothing about the franchise?

Hmm, I'd say the accurate words to describe this show would be "Live-Action Animation Adapation" of the game series lol.

First season was decent, at least enough to make you look forward to the next season.

It doesn't represent the entire game series as a whole but it does reference on one of the more popular timelines (more well known and played by gamers).

God, that Netflix Dracula series really needs to cut it out with all the shots of people pulling their own loose fingernails off. One was more than enough.

I almost tore off the top part of one of my nails by accident recently, so it's been extra unappealing to watch...

Oh you saw the series too? What did you think of the last episode?

Speaking of vampire shit, I barely find out that Netflix's Castlevania had a season 2.

It was an experience alright lol.

I mean, some episodes I was like "WTF happened to this series" and other times I'm thinking "omg these writers are trying too hard" (i.e. the battle music was too intense for the animation and that "trip" Alucard had towards the end of the last episode after someone died).

    It was OK haha.

I agree lol but thank you to those who voted this year!

Let's hope this new decade will be a return to form for the scene!

  5. Here we are yet again, the beginning of a new decade. Are we at the 5th year now? I forget.

This thread is dedicated to Japanese releases in 2020 that the MH Community will listen to and would like to keep track of throughout the entire year. It’s a nice way of referring back to a list, should you forget if you’ve listened to a certain release yet or not. I know I forget sometimes haha. These ratings can also help those who may want to see which releases are favoring well or not, based on each individual user who you may have similar tastes with.

Feel free to set up your own rating system (Stars, ?/5, ?/10, Best to Worst, Oooh to Eww, etc.), but try and use spoiler tags to save room in your post, and save room on the page for the other members’ rating lists.

Keep this list in mind in the event that we, the MH staff, host a JRock Awards at the end of the year  .

Let those who participate know that we need to come back to this topic a few more times than we did last year (I did pretty bad lol).

It could be our New Year's resolution or something 😂.

    Last Year's for reference:

  6. I was wondering when this user was going to introduce themselves lol I saw the profile the other day.

    Welcome to the forum!

Midwest Emo, like Detroit/Madison/Chicago origin shit or modern stuff?

Not that I'd know too much about it, as I grew up in the punk rock scene in the 90's buuuuuut the cool kids did know about it.

  7. ykYiJWV.png

You guys better not think we forgot about this!

Coming back for the 3rd year in a row, MH will once more be hosting the MH JRock Awards for 2019!

Now, before you start voting, read the rules provided in the spoiler below, otherwise Yuyo is gonna be mopey about it.

    Spoiler

    1. You can only vote for Japanese Rock artists. However, we use the term "JRock" very loosely and won't reject your vote if you happen to vote for a band that is borderline JPOP or any other related genre.

    2. You may provide up to THREE nominees per category.

    3. Only releases/events of 2019 (obviously).

    4. Since all votes will be made public after the contest, you can explain your choices, but you don't have to. If you do, please make things easier for the staff by following this format:

    Spoiler

    Good Example:

Best Overall Artist: Sug (Because they are super-kawaiiii)

    Bad Example:

Best Overall Artist: I want to vote for Sug, because they are super-kawaiiii

Once you have read the general rules, here's how to vote:

    1. Copy the list of categories below into your reply

    2. Fill in your votes (you can skip as many categories as you'd like)

    3. Submit.

Try to keep your votes organized under spoiler tags in order to save space for other voters.

Your posts will stay hidden until the end of the voting.

Here are your categories to choose from:

    Spoiler
    • Best Overall Artist/Band
    • Best Album
    • Best Single/Maxi-Single/EP
    • Best Cover Art
    • Best Look
    • Best Newcomer
    • Best Veteran
    • Best PV
    • Saddest Disbandment

    • Most Anticipated Release
    • Band that Changed their Sound for the Best
    • Band that Changed their Sound for the Worse
    • Band that you spent most of your money on in 2019
    • What the hell were they thinking!? Award
    • Best Revival/Returns

Voting will last until Monday, January 13th of the New Year (2020)

This will allow everyone to take their time, since some of us are still waiting on some final releases to come out this month.

    Note:

    • "Album" includes both full and mini-albums.
    • For simplicity reasons, we follow the "Once Visual Kei, always Visual Kei" rule. So yes, that makes bands like Dir en grey or L'Arc~En~Ciel a Visual Kei band, just for the purpose of this voting.

If you missed/skipped 2018 or are just joining the forum and have never heard of this, then take part this year!

If you have any questions about the 2019 MH Jrock Awards, feel free to contact me or any of the MH Staff!

    Happy Voting!

  8. It was so depressing coming back to visit some friends this time around.

One was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease, another may be clinically full-blown schizo with no one knowing his current whereabouts, another stuck in the same lifestyle as high school and completely looking like crap, idk why but somehow regardless of how bad I have it, I can’t enjoy the good things about my life knowing they’re like this.

it almost feels like a hometown form of shellshock and idk if I ever want to come back to my old lifestyle, knowing I could have ended up just like them.

  9. Oh yeah, I was supposed to come back to this topic.

    Welcome to Monochrome Heaven @Luciphel!

Back then i was very active on a lot of forums. After a while though the internet seemed to change and forums in general seemed to die out and my social interaction with people on these niche topics with it. Since then ive relying on accidentally stumbling onto things for new music. Though that can be fun, more and more im not finding out about bands i love disbanding until years later. Yesterday i found out all at once that 3 more are gone and thats a lot to take in a day so i decided to see if i could find anywhere if there was a news forum (because im old and forums is all i understand). Thank you google for Monochrome Heaven which is a site i do recognise from back in the day. No idea if i joined back then (again, very old, bad memory).

So here i am, with only a few artists im a fan of that may or may not still be active looking for news, friends and recommendations.

Well considering how social media may implode at any time now (or abandoned), you chose the perfect time to join/come back lol. Now, I feel, is one of those crucial times in the VK timeline to begin the whole preservation and whatnot, so the more old school fans that wanna join us, the happier we are to let them in.

I think that you'll fit right in considering that you've been around for as long as some of the regulars on here, including myself.

Haha my childhood right here. The fact I had to download things file by file using those programs, never again.

Oh yeah, I saw your band list and you need to update that shit to 2019 lol luckily MH can help a ton with that.

Let the staff know if you have any questions.

    Talk to ya soon!

    Welcome to the forum!

  11. Eh, it’s kind of hard to pinpoint.

I agree with @platy’s take, the exception being amateur American porn cuz it’s new faces or new takes in scenery. Mainstream porn simply regurgitates the formula that trends online over and over (the family stuff, real-estate, babysitter, etc.), which they ironically source from amateurs.

Japanese is still my preference because of the sheer volume of videos that make the industry, and something that you’ve never heard of may come across your feed and it’s several scenes and not a 5min teaser.

Kinda hard to distinguish any other countries because online porn sites don’t use the tags very well and I also think people don’t care that much haha.

  12. Hey, welcome to the forum!

I'm a member from the Midwest myself (well, used to be).

Have you attended any other anime conventions in that area like Anime Central or Anime Midwest in Illinois, Anime Milwaukee in Wisconsin, or Youmacon in Michigan?

I've never heard of Anime Weekend before, but we do have members from Atlanta that might have.

Take a look around if you've never lurked our forum before, and make yourself at home.

We have a bunch of topics that you can take part in and plenty other users to chat with that enjoy listening to those very same artists/bands.

Shoot any of the staff here (including myself) if you have any questions.

Hope to chat with you soon!

  13. Ah jeez, what the hell happened?

Im just hoping that Byo doesn’t go jumping from band to band when they’re gonna cease activities like that.

I guess I’ll follow him on insta, assuming he’s active there.

The office I work in is noisy af.

People who talk non stop coz they're afraid of silence. Anyway, I put up with it.

Then this guy right next to me has been whistling and humming all week (non stop) and that's just too fucking far. Those actions are objectively annoying. I finally ask him to stop and he just tells me to put head phones on and turn the music louder.

I've been in a murderous mood all day 🙂 why can't people be more mindful of their fucking surroundings.

What if, he's drowning out the noise with his whistle/hum because he hates the noisiness too?

Nah but seriously, you work in an open-space office? I hate those.

  15. Alright I'm back here, again.

This time my beef is with current contender for AoTY (or so I hear (weebs amirite?)) Demon Slayer (or Kimetsu no Yaiba, for you hardcore otaku bastards).

Back when it first started airing, I decided to jump in early and see if it had promise.

Well, let's just say that while I enjoyed the artwork and plot, they fucking butchered the shit out of how they presented it. As a result, my opinion of it by just the first episode was that this was gonna be a snooze-fest, so I put it off (more like dropped it, honestly) cuz I have a backlog and shit, ya know?

Anyways, I met up with a friend, had some drinks, and caught up with our animes of the season. After I mentioned that I dropped Demon Slayer, he begged me to pick it back up again (and make it past episode 3) because I might actually grow to like it as it was really good in his opinion (plus he knows I'm a jaded fuck when it comes to anime). Well I decided to humor him and pick it back up, this time doing some research as to who was the studio behind it and their past work, simply because there were things in the first episode that I found familiar and wanted to reference it in other works they may have created.

Well it took me up until episode 4 to break her in, simply because the attempt to present everything was still just so poorly thought out, that I was actually facepalming at certain scenes, even going so far as to actually think about other anime shows that did it better lol.

I'm up to episode 10 or so, and I still feel the same way about the show as I did from the first episode, and I dunno man, I think the show's already on a thread with me, and I'd hate to see a repeat of Your Lie in April.

I'll come back and explain what other problems I have with the show, but this main one sums up a lot my flac with Demon Slayer.

  16. Since city-pop never actually died as a style, there are diamonds hidden within the many genres that emerged since going back into hiding, and part of this thread is finding some of those "in between the times" releases that prove that city pop is the fusion genre that adapted to make it this far.

I stumbled on this 2013 album by BLU-SWING, a musical group that began activities around 2008, focusing on swing/jazz and adapting with funk/hip-hop as well. Pretty good.
