I dreamt about playing support bass for a band but kept on abandoning due to wanting to pee. For some reason, I took the 20 min walk home just to pee. I came back to the play just in time to perform for the main band but had to leave again after the first song. Went home again but this time I was fed dinner and moments after finishing my meal called in to get back asap. As I left my home, I was offered a ride to the play. However, as soon as I got on the ride, I had the urge to pee again. I held it in this time. When I got to the play, I was put to perform for a live hip-hop band. However after only one song, the bass guitar was taken away from me and given to some girl who proceeds play to well enough to astonish the crowd. I watched in amazement of how well she played and had the feeling I was being showed up but I couldn't keep my eyes off of her and wanted to hear her play some more. Then I woke up with a massive urge to pee

So much to DL for the Trade-Off, at the same time, I keep getting nostalgic and want to rewatch the movies I took the songs from.

Prolly one of the best (or better) MEJIbro singles out there. The title track is pretty much a quintessence of what they're about in top form: driving rhythmic guitars coupled with Tsuzuku's catchy melodic chorus, and of course his screams (the guitar solo is pretty ace too). Akercock raised my eyebrow at first because of those, uhm, vocals but ultimately it's a pretty fun heavy track, in the vein of Apocalypse. The closing song Divergence is the icing on the cake, and is one of my top favorite MEJI' tunes, it just works so well and has so much power. They really caught some cool melodies and emotional atmosphere with that one (without being sappy). Ace stuff.

    | wish they'd replicate some of the awesomeness here onto their upcoming album~ (even tho I know their style has changed over these 2.5 years)

JukaForever reacted to CAT5 in #6: clepsydra by chouchou merged syrups.
Artist: chouchou merged syrups. Mini: clepsydra Score: chouchou merged syrups. is back in the game and playing for keeps.
Having reigned the latter half of the 2000s as Japan's "go-to" female-fronted indie-rock band, MASS OF THE FERMENTING DREGS left a huge void in the scene when they disbanded back in 2012. Many acts have sprung up in an attempt to claim that abandoned spotlight, but few have managed to distinguish themselves. Bands like Tricot and MAMADRIVE, while competent, still suffer from forgettable songwriting, while other groups are still trying to find their sound (Cö shu Nie, THE★komesuduo), focusing their talents solely on pop efforts (negoto, akai-ko-en), or simply not consistent enough in output (itsue) or quality (uchuu conbini). One band that fell into the trap of inconsistency is chouchou merged syrups., but on their latest mini album "clepsydra", they've managed to patch up the holes in their sound and present themselves as a force to be reckoned with.

Formed in November of 2010 in Kyoto, the quartet quickly garnered interest by signing with the indie-powerhouse label Zankyo Records (cinema staff, People In The Box, mudy on the 昨晩, té, early 9mm Parabellum Bullet) and released their first track "針中察するに" on the label's 3rd compilation subtitled "-brightest hope-". This song alone was enough to grab the attention of indie-heads, as it introduced a refreshing take on the emo-rooted, indie-rock styles played to perfection by bands like 9mm parabellum bullet and Cinema Staff. The intrigue surrounding chouchou swelled into hype as it was announced that their first mini album "since" would be produced by none other than Cinema Staff's bassist, Souhei Mishima. Unfortunately, that hype quickly fizzled out with the mini album being an utter disappointment. "Since" sounded dull and soulless, as if the band were handed blueprints to unreleased cinema staff songs and forced to play them at gunpoint. Even vocalist Chiaki Kawato gave a timid, almost fearful-sounding performance - one that was further marred by her constant straining to hit notes that she either couldn't or shouldn't have attempted to; this is a common, but contemptuous trait amongst Japanese indie-rock vocalists. Because "since" didn't live up to it's expectations, prospective interest in the band diminished and the release of "clepsydra" nearly went unnoticed. Thankfully, chouchou took note of their defects and improved upon them in every aspect.

Contrasting "since" from the get-go, "clepsydra" opens with a 40-second instrumental titled "月光" - a guitar riff that's melancholic, menacing, and shrouded in atmosphere. This piece sets the tone for the first half of the mini album as chouchou delves into a darker, more emotionally-driven sound than they've done previously. The first 2 songs "斜陽" and "白昼夢は色彩の無い" not only showcase this new direction, but they also boast a vast improvement in the band's songwriting. There's plenty of intense, emo-inspired instrumentation to rock out to, but this time it's more precise and colorful. Chiaki's vocal melodies are more congruent with her skill level and there's more power behind her delivery. The gloomy pseudo-ballad "踊る、そして" slows things down to a post-rockish crawl, but fails to reach a substantial climax. This is perhaps my biggest grievance with "clepsydra" - they missed an opportunity to catapult this track into the stratosphere, and instead, ends up sounding like a 4 minute interlude. Subsequent tracks "Havfrue" and "風のように" move the album in a brighter direction and expand on those undeveloped post-rock tendencies by employing a fine balance of twinkly guitar interplay and emotive choral passages. "橙鳴る" brings the album to a brilliant finish. It's intense but delicate, melancholy yet uplifting - the perfect symbiosis of sounds represented in the first and latter halves of the album.

As a whole, "clepsydra" makes it clear that "since" was just a hiccup and the initial hype surrounding the band was warranted after all. With performances lined up at MINAMI WHEEL 2014 and Zankyo Matsuri's 10th Anniversary events, in addition to a brand new track featured on the latest Zankyo Record compilation, the future is looking bright. chouchou merged syrups. may very well solidify themselves as the next female-fronted "it" band of the Japanese indie-scene!

The amount of physical goods I have bought isn't large enough to warrant a proper look-through. Most of my music and movies/videos are digitized. Rip and store is the procedure, I get any other media digitally.

    Physical Music (CD`s, Tapes, Records)

I currently have roughly 150 hip-hop CDs. The older ones are stashed in my parents place and I keep the newer ones at my current place. I haven't bought much since, around 10 ish since I left the scene. I have roughly 50 japanese CDs. Which I keep in a shelf at my current place.

Digital Music (iTunes, Google, rekochoku, downloads, etc...)   I found it easier to DL older music so I am now able to amass a much more sizeable collection of hip-hop music especially those that are out-of-print and are from the 80's and 90's all in FLAC. I have roughly 120 GBs of mostly east coast artist, I haven't delved deeply into west coast or southern regions yet. All other genres is around 60 GBs, mostly mp3s though. WAV files are stored in another harddrive.   All my files are sorted by straightforward genres, stored in folders. iTunes tends to fuck this right up since users can't make their own folders. I can't use iTunes other than syncing my iPod. It can't read flac so I have to convert all my music to mp3s and I don't buy lossy music either so...   Physical Videos (Blu-ray, DVD, VHS)   I have yet to convert to Blu-Ray, still unsure if I ever will. Anyway, most of my DVDs is stashed in my parents place as well except the newer ones.   Physical Goods (Clothing, Obi, Posters, Cheki, Bonuses like photo`s, etc...)   Asian clothing tends to be like 2 sizes smaller than their NA counterpart, I gave up when half of my order from yesstyle didn't fit .... I am Asian OTL   I throw away obi, I don't understand the point of keeping em. Like after I tear up the plastic, nothing keeps it stuck on the CDs. So it will probably just be a pain whenever I have to shuffle my CDs around.   My posters stay in their container until I am for sure I will have them up for a long time. I currently have 5 posters just rolled up, still unopened.   No clue how to store Chekis or Photos, I just stick em to the CDs somehow. Although, I saw a nifty idea of having a glass table on top a regular table. You make a collage of your collected photos in between it, will probably do it if I collect enough photos or chekis.   Other Stuff You Collect   I keep shoeboxes to store my CD/DVD when I was younger. It has now been upgraded to bulk-ramen boxes lol. I still find ways to keep sizeable boxes for the simple reason you can store so much stuff in em. I guess this is a result of not having a proper shelf growing up. They are excellent for textbooks and novels.   Summary   I hate summaries -.- I am more of a strong intro and body section type of a writer.

He kinda did, with not being able to understand the lyrics because it was in a different language. He also can't tell em apart due to their race, I don't see the humor there IMO. To be fair, I also couldn't couldn't tell them apart when I first saw "Genie" but that was because they were in uniforms and was bombarded with so much leg action.

If it suits my taste and I can't get the same sound anywhere else, then there is a chance of me liking it. Soft-energetic vocals in power metal bands. Warm-poppy energetic rock. Deep-heavy vocals in chaotic or clean rock.

I think that is really the only three things I look for now in Japanese music.

Yeah....no, rioting doesn't do much justice for one death. Definitely not, if it means losing thousands of dollars for business which now jeopardizes the livelihoods of business owners. Also, the city will probably have to spend more money on repairs which will take money away from potentially more useful use of the money. While you can feel a sense of empowerment, the consequences won't justify it.
