  1. With this issue of Diaura switching labels, I got curious about the topic. How many labels of the VK scene can you count? If you can, add information on year of starting and closing; owner (and bands he/she got involved); at least three names of the most famous bands they have worked with; overall reputation.

Wasn't Ains a label of Yo-ka? Who is Yukika?

Did I transcribed correctly what Kamijo says in the intro?

There are some words I can't identify clearly, so maybe I missing a の for an を and so on...

Same with this intro. Gackt's Japanese is more audible, but still have some confusion on some words, perhaps because I can't match them together into a whole meaning...

What it really pissed me off of Cinema Bizarre was the fact that they looked really vk... but didn't sounded vk at all. We could have had a little vk music to reach the West mainstream, guys...
  5. Which do you consider are the most "anthemic" vk songs ever?

For me there are quite a few, but "Cage" from Dir should be in the top of the list.

I'm not counting anything by Deg as anthemic ever since they traded their VK past for the no-homo metalhead neckbeard coin lol fucking Gackt still has more scene cred than them

So was Toshiya actually a guitarist? Now his way of playing bass arranges makes sense...
  7. At least these are more artsy, and Wataru does have a cool ass with those really beautiful tattoos.

Does anybody know what happened to Yomi's voice during the last era in Naito? I've never heard such a damaged voice onstage... He tries to put all his best into his performance, but he still sounds like having lots of mucus into his throat... and thus misses a lot of notes. The last live's "Mahora" sounded awful...

Poor Yomi. Although always having some problems since the begining of Naito, I've always felt he is one of the best vocalist in the scene.

Didn't he say something about having functional dysphonia  (or something like that) back when Nightmare announced their hiatus? And yeah, I agree that his voice was nice. It was different. He was  supposed to be resting during their hiatus, but he came out with Take No Break almost immediately and he still sounds awful.

I need somebody to share with my love for this song, because I just can't stop to move my legs to the rythm and if this continues I won't be able to finish my research paper lol

Interesting fact: the credits for the music are to SHINYA, who will be also credited for the music of "Yurameki" a few months after, another classic of Dir that shares with this song the same syncopathed guitars' groove that makes one easily recall Eden-era Luna Sea.

Ahhhh, I love this song a lot! Dir en grey has such a special place in my heart.

  13. I think Gosan is actually THE example of what someone on MH called a derivation of the "host scene", like some kind of urban night entertainment. It described perfectly what I felt after watching some Gosan's live clips: I've got the impression of a watching a bunch of cool guys throwing out a party for bangya at a night club, I mean, for people with "geeky tastes" like anime, brutal metal riffs and suicidal lyrics... but still a night club vibe. Thus said, I don't think I can still consider this "visual kei" any longer... It's actually another kind of stuff...
  14. Wow, never thought BAISER had a major debut, less a single for an anime series opening.

The few stuff I listened from them was pretty much irrelevant to me; also, I felt Yukari's voice ruined every bit of goodness the music could have. He made me recall IZAM's awful voice... So, I always believed they were some kind of nobodies that had relevance because somehow they managed to strike hard into the likers of old-school VK music, but nothing else... Perhaps I'll give them a try now...

  16. saiko

How was he supposed to find that information? Was he actually living in Japan? Lol
  17. Song is really formulaic, but wow, what a PV! Indie bands aren't the same cringy bandomen with low-budget PVs filmed in their neighborhood anymore lol
  18. saiko

Wow, you never stop to find more strange indie vk bands...
  19. Still waiting someday some mysterious user on YouTube uploads a handful full VHS recordings of Dir en grey's first concerts, where they played Zan faster than it would be recorded, and Kaoru missed almost every solo.

I don't understand how this hasn't happened yet, considering it did happen with La:Sadie's and also big bands like X, Luna Sea, L'arc, D’erlanger, and many more.

Tbh I got really bored of watching the 1999 Osaka Jou live over and over to have some of the most glorious 90s vk performances ever...

    1. Seelentau

      Seelentau

You knew I'd reply to this :D So:

The La:Sadie's videos are all from DVDs that Ki$aki sold at verious live shows after the band had disbanded. They're not band-sanctioned releases.

As for the DEG stuff, well, it's obvious that they recorded all their lives from the very beginning, considering we already saw parts of one of their 1997 shows in their Mousou Blablabla VHS. Here's my digest for that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FNgHcPRhNiI
You guys probably also know about this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cOdKGLVZB68

I'm not sure where it comes from, but it appears to be leaked footage of what was supposed to be their first live release (the 1998 Budokan performance). As you probably know, Kyo called this live their darkest day or something like that in the VOS documentary.

The Tsumi to Batsu indies version (aka NS1) doesn't sound that different from the finished product. The intro is different and the lyrics, obviously. But the general song structure was there already.

    2. saiko

      saiko

      Hi Selentau!

IMHO Kyo and the rest of the band need to stop being so dumbly dramatic and start taking charge on their fame and the love that feel a lot of people for whom they are very influential. So all this mysticism around their indie vk era needs to get an end soon. For god's sake.

And btw, have you actually heard that NS1?

    3. Seelentau

      Seelentau

I mean I wouldn't be opposed to finally seeing those old lives, but it would take away a lot of the mystery that surrounds their early days. Plus, they might be ashamed of their unprofessional, young selves, don't know.

Yup, I have a recording of it, from October 17, 1998.

OMG, what is the media pretending? To her not get shocked and try to seek for help, at least some cataharsis, only to be a pretty doll? I'm puking... Japan's still very far from the West in this themes...
  21. saiko

So, is this girl actually apologizing for making public that someone tried to assault her? Am I reading right? ... Like Japanese media making a victimizer off the victim?
  22. I hope we won't suffer again of watching gloriously skilled VK artist do the weirdest stuff ever imagined (like the Mejibray guys)...
  23. saiko

What an awful singer, but hey, that unexpected twist from a metalcore riffs to a traditional Luna- Seaesque bridge was awesome lol
  24. saiko

Wow, never known about a vk band with such ages differences whitin Interesting! VK bandoman have this thing of "continuing" their senpais legacy since the beggings of the scene lol Were the others roadies before?
  25. saiko

What happened? Also, how old are this guys?
