Gara wrote about it on his blog.

According to their schedule, the first part of the concert will run from 17:30; from my understanding, it's gonna be like a funeral but for Gara's life, so attendees will be wearing bright colors. I think it'll be an acoustic live since Yuu's there too.

The second part, which features HELLNEARS runs at 20:30.

Thanks for the clarification! I paid $200 to change my flight so these 2 concerts better be a blast!

I must be the only person who doesn't find the price ridiculous, or like, more ridiculous than the usual, if you think of it as an album + 2 concert DVDs, rather than the deluxe edition of an album... Guess my critical faculties aren't working properly because I've been missing them. One thing that worries me though is the commentary promised for devour act 2, I hope they don't just overlay it over the concert audio as they did on niconico, because this defeats the purpose of getting it on DVD for me.

Don't worry; all of MERRY's DVDs with commentary so far comes with the option to turn it off.

I understand, that is a big bundle xo I find it pretty stupid however that they decided to do a CD and a DVD recording of the Tokyo Spring live, and with almost the exact same setlist......like wtf were they thinking???? Even more reason to believe that this would be a waste to buy. The only reason I'd like to see the devour 2 commentary is just to see the members talking with each other, which is always fun; I didn't get to see it on nico, so I'm kinda glad they made it available for DVD.

[devour act 2] was made as a big deal when the concert was announced (but I can't for the life of me remember WHAT it was) so I was surprised it wasn't released that year but instead got it in a condensed form 4 years later. The Tokyo Spring live was recent and I reckon their DVD sales ain't the best (album sales tend to be much higher than DVD sales in Japan) so they might as well drop it in as an incentive for fans to join the fanclub and/or attend their lives to get that special edition CD.

MERRY's DVDs go for reeeeeally cheap prices (even the FC limited ones) in 2nd hand shops (my heart broke whenever I think about those in my closet that I purchased at full price.....) so ya, maybe releasing a CD coupled with a DVD (at a much higher price) makes more sense than a standalone DVD.

M-ology will be released sometime in September.

In the meantime, Gara's getting his birthday event ready! He will hold his birthday lives, 「ガラ生前葬」(第一部) and 「浅田天国〜鋼鉄篇〜」(第二部) on July 6 ♥

His session band, "HELLNEARS" will perform on the second event and is the name is literally a pun on "hernias"....the members also happen to have hernias or other bone problems (sans Yuu)...They will be covering MERRY songs.

    lineup:

Vo.ガラ (Gara) (MERRY) [lumbar hernia surgery completed]

    Gt.結生 (Yuu) (MERRY) [healthy body]

Gt.BETCHI (THE冠 (Support), ex-FULLTRAP) [healthy body, "hernia reserve army"]

Ba.wu-chy (BPM13GROOVE, BATCAVE, オーラルヴァンパイア (oral vampire), etc.) [cervical hernia, lumbar hernia; treatment in progress]

    Dr.HAL (ex-ARTEMA) [knee problems]

I booked my plane tickets to reach Tokyo on 7th July for ANDROGYNOUS, only to have this known to me.... Will be paying penalty and extra $ to change my flight for this....

  5. Saw MERRY in Liquidroom for their 2009 Underworld [BURST]Tour final and during the set, I was sub-consciously digging my nose (I know, I know....) and my eyes and Gara's met (I'm a Asian dude). Gara then smiled and proceeded to violently dig HIS nose with all his fingers, one at a time and then licked all his fingers while glancing in my direction with a crazed look. Good times!

Cool! Are you just visiting or do you live here in Japan?

If you'll be in the general Tokyo area long enough, SADS is supposedly doing a show on 7/21 at Liquidroom. On 7/1 D'ERLANGER is doing a show at O-EAST and then GARGOYLE will do a show at the same venue on 7/15. Kaya, Inugami Circus Dan, and few other bands are doing a show for Kaya's birthday on 7/17 at O-WEST. Kiryu is doing a show at Utsunomiya Heaven's Rock on 7/9. BREAKERZ (not really visual, but Daigo used to perform as Daigo Stardust) is doing two shows on 7/15 and 7/16 at Toyosu Pit. Miyavi is doing a show at Studio Coast on 6/29.  Visunavi has a good calendar of events going by day: http://www.visunavi.com/live/2017/07/ I'm sure the smaller live houses like AREA, Cyber, etc. will update in a couple of months.

Unfortunately I'm an obangya so I don't know much about current bands/scene. D:

If you're into Western music, BANKS is playing 7/6 at Liquidroom. I plan on going to that and kinda making a staycation weekend. :D Since I'm going to Fuji Rock later that month I wasn't willing to fork out more than what Arena Standing cost, lol. Lemme know if you or anyone else would be interested in doing some kind of meet-up.

Ha, I did the same homework as you (checking visunavi, ticketcamp & eplus) but there really is nothing during the period for me. I'm there for holiday but SADS's tour date is too far away for me (got to stay 3 weeks to catch it). I already saw them in 2014 so its fine XD 女王蜂's tour final is on 1st July at Zepp Divercity, and SIM's deadpop festival is on 1st & 2nd July:

    http://www.deadpopfest.com/bands.html

which includes Maximum the hormone, coldrain and crossfaith.

I'm holding my hopes up for the next few weeks (haven't bought the air tickets yet) though I have gotten my arena area concert tics via 1st round DEG FC balloting. I'll be going from Singapore with a friend though. Might eventually just settle for the 2 day DEG/Pierrot concert then fly back cos I have plans to catch cali gari's 15th anniversary & Buck-tick's 30th anniversary concerts in Sep as well.

Adding to the discussion on DEG & PIERROT's popularity,  @jaymeesaid it best on Pierrot flawlessly bridging between mainstream & VK, with their image & songs not too 'aggressive' & 'weird' as compared to DEG. 'cocoon' was a very big seller on oricon then and the getbackers anime tie-up propelled them into mainstream consciousness. They played saitama super arena (capacity of 20000+) regularly before they disbanded while DEG's biggest venue thus far is nippon budokan (capacity of 13000+?), though it might be a deliberate decision.

Also, if there is a DVD is might be fan club only. I think that's how PIERROT's reunion live was, but I can't remember if there was a non-fan club version or not...

BTW, is anyone else on here going to either/both shows?

I'm attending both, but I can't find any other concerts to leech onto during the period other than lynch in Saitama on 11th July GRRRRRRR

  8. Erm, its not so much of restarting activities but rather, doing a couple of concerts as SADS in July like what they always do the last few years. Though they might have surprises up their sleeves like live limited singles/DVDs.

Regarding the old bassist; did the article go into detail why he was fired? I thought he blended well with the rest in lives.

From midnight today in Japan time (so in a few hours) the song "汚れた夜" (Yogoreta yoru) will be available to download for ¥251 on iTunes, Recochoku and mora. It is a different arrangement than what will be on the forthcoming album btw.

To get demo-version songs of the upcoming album, you have to buy this download and both normal & limited versions of the album.

Need dates for those macabre shows already. If they're after 15th of July then I'm fucked.

1st day's at kochi on 15th July. Nope, can't post the rest of the venues/dates from the FC newsletter in case I get tracked down and my membership revoked and banned from their concerts forever ha

The two girls are still going under the incredible name 'THE IDOL FORMERLY KNOWN AS LADYBABY'

I'm actually looking forward to deadlift lolita, ladybeard has an amazing energy and it's a lot more interesting to have him paired up with another woman who does body building (one of the most interesting idol traits i've come across tbh) rather than an underage girl who's done a lot of dodgy things in her career and and a normal idol girl i couldn't remember if I tried.

"dodgy things in her career"? Details and links please!

Basically, all the singles that were released when they went major will be re-recorded and distributed for free at each of the 3 venues that they will be playing for the new tour. Prepare to pay an arm & a leg for these live-distributed singles.

Easy on the conspiracy theories there, sweetheart. ;)

Quite a few of the Japanese there had seniors and/or kids with them, so they were never gonna last the full 3 1/2* hours. Then there was like 15-20 minutes between encores, so other folks must've basically got sick of waiting. Also, it wasn't 100% clear there was gonna be a proper 2nd encore (they were running a bit late and London authorities get seriously bitchy about noise curfews). It was a bit like waiting for the post-credits scene in a Marvel film without the guarantee there was actually one coming.

*4 1/2 hours if you include the film.

Thanks for he clarification! Argh, 15mins for an encore is too much IMO.

Cannot wait to see Pierrot's prospective releases being churned out under Firewall's label, oh what an irony - maybe Aiji won't fuck it up this time?

What did Aiji fuck up previously? I only know that Pierrot broke up cos Aiji is determined to leave the band to form LM.C.

While a DVD of it is up in the air, there is bound to be a live broadcast of it, given the popularity of the bands.

As always with Japanese bands, you gotta check how much a ticket cost. Never fails. RADWIMPS, who just might be THE hottest Japanese rock band right now, are charging ¥7,900 for a ticket. I guess the older hardcore fans seem to fork enough money for HAKUEI and co. to be able to produce albums + singles and touring every year.

I never got how Japanese bands price their tickets; is it via popularity? Charging 7500 yen regardless of the venue (small live houses, large halls)?

@midi:nette Oh, I have the Halloween live, it was every bit as gorgeous as I expected, by the way happy Yuu/Zaku is life, and alter-ego-Nero (not up for remembering that name) 's outfit falling apart, and yesss Mamurasaki's first appearace was too precious for words, and then there was Gara's immense fondness for swirling his cape xD I meant the music video, I don't have that one.

Wait, what? Do you mean the type A DVD that came with the single?
