I also don't think covers from the 90s should count either because it's the 90s.

I don't care much for these slug doom stoner metal bands but I do like the album art and other illustrations John Baizley produces for them. The attention to detail and the usage of heavy dark lines and careful pen work is the kinda stuff I'm especially drawn too. I've debated about buying some of the vinyl releases from these bands just to have a large high quality print of some of his art. Below are just two examples but just toss his name in Google and there's a ton of stuff that will come up.

I agree /thread Enough said, I don't think anything could be more embarrassing and painful to look at. Anyway, that Rosenstrauss cover is starting to grow on me. Sure it's cartoony and dumb but at least it's cartoony and dumb and how many cartoony and dumb albums do you see like that. At least it gives me some fire to use when I make fun of VK fans for liking boys that look like animu boys.

My Dad to this day hates the Beetles but that's because he has an older sister that was swept up in Beetlemania and so he had to endure the whole thing to the bitter end through her. I think a lot of the angry little boys mad about Bieber have sisters (or even Mom's) that are caught up in the Bieber storm. So going online and venting about how much they hate him is their only outlet from the agony they must go through. So I think there's a lot of that really and not so much sexism hatred or something (I'm not totally following what I just read). Yet just kinda take a step back and realize that these are probably dumb little boys that have to go to school everyday and deal with girls with Bieber pictures all over their binders and lockers. It might seem like they're going out of their way to hate on Bieber online but they probably have to deal with Bieber fans more than you may think.

Ahahaha what!? What is this? Dynasty Warriors!? Totally reminds me of a character selection game for either Dynasty Warriors or some FF series game because it's so uhh cartoony looking. Also agree with all the Moi Dix Mois covers, why does Mana have to put his big stupid heavily photoshopped face all over his stuff. We know it's your solo project -__-

Seattle does for sure and I bet it's the same with any large metro urban hub. I can only speak for the metal/punk scene in Seattle which often overlaps in venues but I'll bring up the Japanese bands that have come through here and their placement in Seattle's venues to keep it relevant with Japanese music. Tier 1: This is basically those dive bar gigs that only local bands play at. Rarely does a touring band play at these locations and when a touring band does it's a local tour with other no name local bands. So if you're in Seattle and want to experience underground Seattle metal or punk go to these places. From what I understand the vocalist from Nocturnal Bloodlust is from Seattle, so if he was in a local band he probably played at one of these locations or something similar. - Comet Tavern, Black Lodge and even Fun House except that closed and if you're a woman don't go alone because it's sketch. Tier 1.5/2: This is where all the unpopular popular metal bands play at when touring through Seattle. So basically imagine all the bands metal fans love but don't get any radio or mainstream recognition. Moonsorrow, Negura Bunget, In Solitude, Alcest, Tyr etc. These venues often have local bands opening, so make friends with these bands if you want to get in for a few dollars less. - El Corazon and Studio 7. Kiwamu/GPKism actually played at El Corazon. I had enough sense to not bother going but unfortunately missed out on Kiwamu and Rodger wankery :C Also Loudness and Sigh played at Studio 7. Tier 3: This is about as far as I go before shit gets too mainstream (ohhhhhhhhhh so hipster) but basically the semi popular and/or washed up artists play at these venues. So basically Dir en grey, DespairsRay, Anthrax, Testament, Nightwish etc. - Showbox Market and Sodo. Dir en grey, DespairsRay, Vamps, Miyavi and Mucc all played at the Market. At least I think but I'm pretty sure if was Showbox Market for the last three. The Market is basically a slightly more classier venue for these slightly more well to do bands. Except DespairsRay I think undersold Showbox Market because they did an impromptu signing at the end of the concert to make up the costs. Showbox is a little out of their league but at least I got in before all the teeny weeaboos suckahs!! I am curious what the Vamps, Miyavi and Mucc turn out was like or if they just played opening for a bigger bands. Also Dir en grey will be playing here in November and also played at the Sodo location when opening for some band I don't care about. I am curious if Dir en grey will be able to fill it in November. B'z recently came through Seattle and I think they played at one of the Showbox locations. I am thinking Market. Tier 4: Wamu Theater basically and maybe Key Arena. Not sure if Key Arena should be moved to Tier 5 since shitty derpstep like Skrillax played at Key Arena. Basically uhhh more expensive and holds more people. Hosts artists such as Megadeth, Metallica and X Japan. I've never been to these locations since tickets get into the I don't want to pay that now bracket and I don't like these artists enough to pay that. X Japan played at Wamu, didn't go though since I don't care about wash up Yoshiki and company trying to ride Hide's legacy. Tier 4/5: So it's Tier 5 if you're mother fucking Iron Maiden and you need to sell out the White River Amphitheater or The Gorge or any other God tier band like Journey or some shit. Tier 4 if you're part of some shit tier festival like Ozzfest or Warp Tour and it's a multi day festival of pure hell and shit music. I don't foresee any Japanese bands reaching that level unless they're part of a festival.
  7. TheBistroButcher666

I've definitely heard that opening melody before. Otherwise not any help at all. Ohhh and that venue seems to be a common place to film PVs.
  8. TheBistroButcher666

Unfortunately I ordered Type A, nooooooooooooooooo ugly artwork is ugly. Someone wanna trade Type B booklet with me lololol. Actually don't even care that much but ugh, Type A is so tacky.
  9. TheBistroButcher666

Type B is semi decent looking. Type A is really tacky and the regular edition would look better without the elemental effects. Otherwise they're all pretty ugly.
  10. TheBistroButcher666

Ugh, I hope this four type release nonsense doesn't become the new standard. Otherwise, preview is good but not super duper excited. Waiting to hear the full version when it's all over YouTube. D is always a huge hit or miss band, some songs are fantastic and other songs leave me cringing so it's always a surprise what we get from them.

Oh man, I'm not even gonna get into this. I'm not talking about the legitimacy of VK being metal or djent or any of that. For the most part I do agree with your post but that's not what I was really talking about. My initial post is mostly tongue-in-cheek, while I still don't agree that BABYMETAL is a metal band I'm also not being all BLARG METAL RAWR and slamming my face in my keyboard over it either. BABYMETAL is an idol group with metal asethetics but not a metal band. There's really not much else to say about it, it's an idol group not a metal band. At least the VK bands that can barely play their instruments have a bit more legitimacy being 'metal' because they're an actual real band, not an idol group. That's basically why I don't agree with BABYMETAL being a metal band because they're not even a band, they're idol singers and an idol group. I don't mind D.I.D. I normally don't like auto-tune and electronic industrial metal or rock but going back to auto-tune, it definitely does have its place. The problem I have is when it's forcibly used and is painfully obvious how out of place it is. D.I.D. is fine because from the get go you know that they heavily use electronic elements in their music and the auto-tune actually goes along with it quite nicely. D.I.D. is the first band that has started to grow on me because they've balanced your traditional rock sound with the electronic sound quite nicely to the point that for someone like me that normally doesn't like heavily electronic music, can enjoy them because it's not so beebop technoy for me.
  12. TheBistroButcher666

That's it, I'm filing for divorce. You're no longer mai waifu. Anyway I don't like them simply because they're not metal. As a pop band they're fine though. Just the elitist metal snob cringes when they call themselves metal and people think this is metal. Shit like, they invented the "fox" sign, lolwat. It's the fucking horns and Dio would like to have a word with you. Anyway, elitist elitin it up, so please carry on and let me be a snob okay!? From a pop perspective I could like them but the two young ones that make squeaky Japanese girl noises in every song makes them unbearable. Fire them and keep the older one that sings lead and this group could be better. I agree though with your overall argument. , make them cute little VK boys and people would claim BABYMETAL as the saviors of VK. Basically all those multi vocalist bands like Gakkido and Monorail (I think that's them) are basically gross boy bands in the same vein as BABYMETAL. I never noticed much hate for them on MH though, only on the metal forums I frequent when some gross ass otaku shows up and starts praising BABYMETAL because everything from Japan is better.

Honestly Jupiter would be the commercial band considering they're the ones on the major label sporting a softer and safer visual look. I'm under the impression that the split was that Kamijo wanted to keep pretending he's a vampire while the others wanted to move on from that concept. It's being reported that basically the PV is the story of Louis (Kamijo) being seduced and turned into a vampire by Mana.

Blessing of the Future So this song is a perfect example of why I am a fan of HIZAKI. From his solo project days that featured a number of terrible VK vocalist to the trainwreck that was SULFURIC ACID, the songs he writes and all his guitar wankery is exactly what I want out of music. I always felt like HIZAKI was cursed with terrible vocalist that just don't do his songs any justice but I think ZIN did a fantastic job and I quite liked his performance. So I am definitely excited and looking forward to more from Jupiter and I have high hopes for ZIN. ARIA ARIA is quite nice and a good change of pace from the title track but unfortunately just doesn't live up to it at all. Usually about halfway I hit the back button to replay Blessing of the Future because it just doesn't hold my attention. It's not a bad song but I am like an ADD kid and if it's not making my brain think and do things and get excited I move onto the next best thing and in this case just go back and listen to Blessing of the Future again and again and again and again and again and again..... SHOUT YOUR DESIRE The English in this song is pretty awkward and ZIN's attempts are pretty mangled and bad. I hope they don't think it's a good idea to do full English songs like Love Will be Born Again but they're probably going to do it anyway on a future release ack! Aside from that, I can deal with a few lines of really bad Engrish here and there, I am assuming ZIN's wraspy smoker voice is intentional to make the song seem "hard" since this seems to be the "heavy" and "hard" song of the release but it's not really any of that at all. The chorus is pretty poppy and sorta kills any attempts from the verse portion to build the song up into something heavy. I don't know if that was what they were going for but either way, ain't workin. Otherwise the song is good but definitely a reason why it was slotted as a B-side because it just doesn't compare to the title track. I do dig the guitar solo and I am assuming that is Teru rocking it most of the time since he composed this song. Damn dude, first time a Teru song that I didn't absolutely love because normally his stuff in Versailles was always my favourite. Overall - 3/5 Blessing of the Future is a great song but the B-sides are a B-side for a reason and why I give it a 3 out of 5 rating. They're honestly pretty forgettable, not terrible and are listenable but don't live up to the title track at all. Basically my overall thoughts on the release is that it's a great first single and definitely gets me pumped up for the album next month. They seem to be stepping away from the whole vampire aristocrat thing but still are a very Visual band but with a slightly more "mature" style if y'know what I mean. Curious if any future releases will have them sporting gowns with feather boas and lace and sparkles and roses and so forth. I wouldn't be surprise if they do have a vampire release here and there. Perhaps they'll be like D and you never know what you'll get with each release. One release it's pirates and the next it's forest fairies.
  17. TheBistroButcher666

I think what they mean is that Versailles trapped themselves in the frilly aristocratic vampire theme. Not so much VK itself limiting them but the specific theme that Versailles set themselves up as. With that in mind but I think a positive look on VK is that it will oftentimes allow bands to experiment in an environment that will let them survive. Shit like Da'vidノ使徒:aL, CODOMO A and Missalina Rei would probably fizzle out and die over night if they tried to play as a non visual band.
  18. TheBistroButcher666

Do whatever you have to do first, we'll still be here bickering about pointless fandom nonsense! Sucks to lose a good well rounded member but if you have things to take care of, take care of that first <3
  19. I kinda like D.I.D with their bad vocals and dub step techno beebop breakdowns.

Some of us like to support our favourite artists by purchasing their releases. Especially since these bands aren't living it up like some multi-millionaire rock star, y'know like working shitty day jobs to support themselves and the band. People complain that it's so unfair bands sell things like 500 yen chekis or live limited releases when it's the best way for them to get anything back. A lot of venues are pay to play venues and they're lucky to even break even half the time. Sure we all download but bitching and whining at people is why I don't share with ungrateful brats like all of you.
  22. TheBistroButcher666

I wonder if their album sold poorly? And members are dropping over it.
  23. TheBistroButcher666

Yup. I hope we get some frilly gay Malice Mizer-ish tunes up in this bitch.
  24. TheBistroButcher666

Unfortunately (or fortunately??) I don't have any pictures from my weeb days. I have some embarrassing livejournal entries though. Basically just imagine everything that could go wrong with dressing like Tatsurou from their 我、在ルベキ場所 PV. Like frizzy and greasy hair, mismatched poorly fitting suit, converse shoes since I couldn't buy myself T.U.K. platformers. My hair type is very heavy (dumb) so I learned really fast on my first attempt that teasing my hair is impossible so that's good I guess, yet trying to just have normal smooth hair was also a major failure and was basically greasy and nappy because I didn't know how to use a flat iron yet. GEL AND HAIRSPRAY WILL MAKE YOUR HAIR SMOOTH WITH NO FRIZZ!
