I agree that there is a difference between copying and influence. I just just think the problem in VK is that bands (and fans) are fickle and will change styles and direction at the drop of a hat to jump on whatever is trending. There's definitely big names that set the trends and style of the VK scene and it's fine when artists take influence. That's normal across any artistic medium, whether it's music, painting, movie making etc. I just think that the relatively small size of the VK scene and talentless novice musicians that don't have an identity of their own and just playing music so they can go major and make animus theme songs. There seems that at any given time, there's a handful of mildly talented guys that know what kind of music they want to do and they do it well and stand out and shine. But for every talented musician there's 10 or 20 fucking baddies. To continue my crazy ranting, an example outside of VK and Japan is Folk Metal. The genre is fairly young, as in there wasn't a defined Folk Metal genre until around the 2000s. Sure there were bands in the 90s and earlier taking on folk influences but usually they weren't called folk metal and usually identified with another genre (NWOBHM, Black Metal, Power Metal etc). Ever since it's rise in popularity thanks to groups like Finntroll, Einsferium, Turisas and so forth. There's been a shit ton of awful bands that have sprung up trying to jump on the folk metal trend. It's not unique to VK, there's plenty of retarded mouth breathing Folk Metal fans that are either just too dumb or in denial to acknowledge their unique unknown folk band is pretty awful and just recycling everything Finntroll has done already. Just way more mediocre. And so basically I feel that's what we are seeing with VK. A genre with a few decently talented groups doing what they do well and a ton of awful groups just trying to jump on whatever cool new thing the big names are doing. *edit for grammar* I am so bad at writing

There's probably a female rock star dating sim already, just not with real people in it as characters.
  3. TheBistroButcher666

Isn't this that band that was mostly all guitar solo with tiny bits of mediocre song filler?

I agree, Miyavi's music has always been terrible but stupid terrible. I can listen to terrible music (see every Visual Kei band in my library) but not stupid terrible like Miyavi's music. It's also why I don't like Ensoku or Golden Bomber, except they're trying to be funny. Miyavi is actually trying to be a taken for serious musician and I don't even...

I mostly just like to knock MEJIBRAY to get at their hysterical fans but I agree not every song is a Gazette cover but there's plenty that are or just heavily influenced by Gazette. But also agree that the argument that you dislike a band because of the fans is pretty poor excuse to not like something because you want to be a unique snow flake. If I disliked a band because of the fans I wouldn't be a fan of Visual Kei then since I dislike most VK fans.

I prefer a closed system to avoid redundant tags or made up dumb tags.
  7. TheBistroButcher666

I don't like them either but I think some people *hate* them to just try and overcompensate how true indie VK they are and just simply because they're popular. I mostly mean the fans that rant about how awful they are but then go listen to MEJIBRAY or some other copy pasta band and rave about how amazing and original they are.
  8. TheBistroButcher666

For sure. It's so painfully obvious. So is kana Grieva going to be old Dir en grey while GRIEVA is going to be new faux metal DIR EN GREY.
  9. TheBistroButcher666

Diary definitely sounds like JEALOUS. Hard to figure out what the others are yet with the short preview.

So I'm really into self publishing comics and recently snagged a bunch of really cool Dir en grey doujinshis. No they're not full of smut (surprisingly) and are actually really well done and made. I want more! I've been collecting self published comics but I want more from the glorious nippon. How and where do you go about buying doujinshis? I'm not really interested in pornographic ones and those seem to be the most common sold and traded among western fans (at least animus ones).

Oh the disappearing and reappearing scar on Gackts face! I also like their Bara no Seidou live, it's what really got me into VK because the entire presentation and performance was totally mind blowing for me.
  12. TheBistroButcher666

LOL Wow, what a shitty way to start.

How did you like the new In Solitude album? I thought it was excellent (btw loved the 1st album, not so much the 2nd).

      TheBistroButcher666

I'm a little on the fence regarding the new album. Some songs are definitely awesome but others leave me disappointed. I really like their two albums. I was happy they played my favourite song last night :>

The vocals sound like it was done by Eric Cartman :U
  16. I want Dir en grey to remake Cage but in their angry faux br00tal metalz style because the rage from all the weeaboos will be hilarious.

The D cover for example actually does something different, they basically just do a metal-fied version of the song while this just sounds like cheap midi version with weak drums and bad vocals.

Okay okay okay! I'm finally in my own home with a real computer to take part in my own damn thread. As of right now, my current music obsession is Primordial. I started listening to them because I was looking for something to hold me over while I waited for the new In Solitude album and shit son! After the new album was released I DON'T EVEN CARE! Because Primordial has blown me the fuck away and is taking up all my music time. So these guys fall into a mix bag and you can either identify them as either black metal or folk metal. I'd even go so far as to say, atmospheric but the whole definition of atmospheric is up in the air anyway depending on who you talk too. Yet the black metal sound is the most dominate in their music while the folk is at a minimum. There is acoustic songs and their music is more melodic than your standard black metal but don't expect songs full of flutes and bag pipes and other dumb things like that to make them folky. I think they fall into the folk genre more through their lyrics which focus on Celtic and Pagan themes. The vocals changed through each release, with the earlier material jumping back and forth between harsh vocals more akin to black metal and clean vocals for the more melodic portions of songs. Later releases though, specifically the last two the vocalist either fucked up his voice or found a style that allows for a mixed harsh yet cleaner melodic singing style. Overall the music is dark and brooding. Songs are long, usually building up to a climatic moment or creating a dark atmosphere and world that sucks you in. Anyway, here is the song I've had on repeat for days. It's everything I love in a song and oh so magical :U

Sounds cheap and rushed but not surprising since they changed songs after the announcement. It's a cute little cover and seems like they had fun but was it really worth making this an official release? Maybe just do it as a live limited release or a bonus track

Oh my gosh! Have fun! Send us a post card!!

If you use PayPal from my understanding you won't be able to cancel your order. However if you use your credit card or anything else like that you should be fine.
  22. TheBistroButcher666

It's not on CDjapan, I ordered the Last three copies from Jishuban Club which will require a shopping service. Plus side I got a shit ton of swag, photos, chekis and all that. Didn't expect that so it was a nice surprise.
  23. TheBistroButcher666

@DogManX Damn I like them! That's the type of 'folk' metal I like. Basically black metal with some folky elements to it. Folk metal seems to have turned into a real gimmick these last couple of years and the only worth while bands to look into are ones that fall more into the black metal spectrum. I know I'm generalizing but seriously Eluveitie sucks. Anyway, if you haven't tried these artists yet. Negura Bunget, Primordial, Drudkh and Windir might be to your liking. I haven't had a chance to listen to the rest in this thread but I'll try to tonight

Oh jeez I almost spat out my drink when I saw the first horse horse picture. That is magical LOL
