nice review, what would interest me is, how did your "not-that-mono-crazy" friends enjoy the show? because in my experience even ppl with close to no relation to the music very much enjoy the special atmosphere of mono-gigs...

well, i can tell you, why it doesn't really work for me personally. one of the points is a fundamental lack of structure or progression in some of the songs themselves. i know particularly with hip-hop that's kind of the whole idea of not really catering to any kind of structure in favor of 'just' a beat, however with tons of the czarface tracks i commonly find myself thinking "holy hell, this is amazing" at the beginning of the track, but already having a strong urge to skip after 30-60 seconds, because it seems to be just the same one bar in infinite repeat with very little variation. i can't quite put my finger on it, but this seems less of an issue with other hiphop albums i listen to (I can't claim to have any kind of hiphop-cred tho). the second point is plainly, that a lot of the loops and beats sound as if lifted from a 144p youtube rip and are just painful to listen to, which.. doesn't help nonetheless there were quite a few tracks that i very much enjoyed, but not as in whole albums unfortunately.

well, strictly speaking the article doesn't really claim any katatonia vibe per se. the only comparison it mentions is: "everything I absolutely adore about bands like Katatonia and Porcupine Tree, in terms of heavy music that isn't afraid to sit back on wavering keyboards and acoustic guitars from time to time", which is a perfectly reasonable statement to make. It's just that the ridiculous headline implies otherwise.

the trailer is cheap and cheesy as fuck, but somehow i dig this, might check out when it comes out...

aaaaand finished final fantasy VI. great game aswell (jesus, just think about that, approx. 50 hours of epic story game in roughly 2MB of size that's the size of a badly compressed mp3^^) really cool characters and world, although i have to admit, it loses it's steam a bit after "significant event" because it's basically just a series of sidequests afterwards without progressing the main storyline... don't know what's next, might dust of my old guildwars2 character maybe, also possibly trying baldurs gate 2 in co-op with a friend, who knows...

Dude, get off your high horse. a quick look at what these comments actually said would have revealed sth to you hoping for sth "progressive" doesn't mean going all Buckethead/Primus. The expectation of a slight appreciation for e.g. sth on the more atmospheric side is quite reasonable after teasers like this instead of some paint-by-the-numbers leftover tracks slapped together. also, your deg-comparison makes no sense. do you mean deg turned all proggy with DSS? and how would making another one relate to gaze making sth more progressive? or is the assumption they entered the realm of proggieness with arche then? both of which would be wrong btw.

hmmn, mildly optimistic about it. nothing groundbraking (from what can be assumed by these 10secondish snippets) and probably way to many standard-fare bland gazerock leftovers, but there seem to be some fun bangers among those, and the ballads seem nice too. perhaps the first gazette album since dim i might consider adding to my library. (condensing these 14 tracks back to a personally fit 7-8 and it might be a pretty kickass mini actually) EDIT: although after their first teaser-video i was hoping for sth a bit more progressive. still haven't learned my lesson in judging teasers...

i think everyone get's the mimicing-lip-synching aspect of video shoots, so the main reason is of course an aesthetical one (and a bit of health and safety as whitegrey rightfully pointed out) video-directors for some reason really don't like the look of cables, microphones etc. except when going for a reeeally "gritty" practice-room kinda look. which is why we end up with these weird hybrid-like performances with unplugged instruments and unconvincing performances. the weirdest thing to me is when there is the performing artist, with an unplugged instrument, standing in front of an unplugged, turned off marshall stack without even AC-connection. the point is, if the goal is to fake a performance, why not set it up like a performance? everything differing from the actual setup makes it more disconnected. personally i would even go as far as microphoning up the drumkit and amps even if just for the looks sake (or better, Particularly for looks sake). Instead we get singers, that have to act out without their microphones, which is completely uncommon for them and they don't know what to do with their hands, or they get an unplugged micstand, with the plug for the cable clearly visible which is probably just as bad. the overall problem with most of the examples is just a strong disconnect between intention and execution. If the intention is to convey the feeling of the musicians performing (in a promotional, idealised way ofc), use the setup of a performance (but watch your step ). If the intention is a clean image, good look on the artist etc. why use the instruments at all? Plenty of possibilities for pretty clean images without weird poses with unrealistic instrument-setups. EDIT: to clarify, i'm not talking about actually blasting the amps, but just setting them up, so they could believably do so... on a sidenote: as a audio-engineer/producer/recording-artist i really like the look of a fully mic-ed up backline and drumkit and cables in general, so i'm probably biased

just finished Final Fantasy IX very cool game, world and characters. battle system is a bit too barebones and easy i think and the story tries a bit too hard to push some FF7ish "destroyer-of-worlds" narrative in the last third, but overall great experience. next up probably one of the FF1-4 remakes

as a bystander i also want to add, as a general understanding of discussion, nobody has a problem with stating an actual opinion or liking sth ("wheee nice catchy track and colors, i want to touch it seductively") but if you add some things, that leave the realm of opinion into the area of wrongly stated facts, people will point these out. By constantly claiming D are (paraphrasing) "doing things outside of the box", "not jumping the latest trend" and are "<3 daring" in their compositions, you are making them out to be some sort of progressive avant-garde powerhouse, that they clearly aren't (at least with this release). As pretty much everybody then pointed out this type of song, as well as the looks have been done to death by billions of other generi-kei bands (and probably D themselves). This doesn't mean that one can not like it, or even that it's necessarily a bad thing in general, but daring/outsidebox/etc it is not.

wow, damn this is a noisy performace, me like alot they should totally try a collab with merzbow or melt-banana EDIT: double post is for those, who don't play by the rules

this basicly. i can understand that the autotune in the one song is a pretty hit or miss effect (a miss in my case...) but otherwise these are very enjoyable to me. If this is what comes out when sitting down and composing the first things that come to mind, i have no problem with her continuing with that.

i have no idea about photography, but i really like these cosplay photos. you seem to get them all in somewhat natural and relaxed poses (well, except for "imma eat your camera!"-guy obviously^^), plenty of cosplay-photography seems rather stiff, so this is sth nice that i think i might have noticed. thumbs up
