  1. same here, first 3 episodes of SwordArtOnline II were okayish but i genuinely enjoyed ep4 with it's "twist" ^^

Akame ga kill became annoying rather quick though, consider dropping it

Tokyo Ghoul on the other hand is now more interesting after a way average and predictable start.

apart from that Zankyou no terror is still brilliant, but i think they could finally show the motivation behind the doings and riddles etc. to keep me interested in the plot a bit more, hoping for the next episode for that :)

  2. Double post, but apparently I have an album by this band. Looks like another case of musical alzheimer's as a result of hoarding too much stuff.

i remember there once was one by them here (or maybe back on TW) with some riddicculous name "be defeated by the heavieness of this riff" or sth along those lines.

(i might have an album by the other band perhaps^^)

  3. Sadly, there aren't many. There's ETERNAL ELYSIUM, Church of Misery, and then some stuff by Boris. There was another, really obscure band too, but I can't recall their name atm.

    there's also gomnupers

(hey, his t-shirt even says "stoner" :P )

    and perhaps knellt

but both border pretty deep into metal i guess, and i suspect it's damn hard to find any releases by them

  4. ^ Yeah PCSX2 is great isn't it? :D I recommend playing FFXII IZJS (International Zodiac Job System) English patched version, you can only play this version on emulator because it was never released here in the states , but the changes that it makes to the game are amazing! definitely the best way to play the best PS2 FF IMO.

hmmn, i'm a bit torn i have to admit. i'm discussing with my friend if we should either continue the story with x-2 or go on with xii. it obviously has an appeal to complete the story of x, the game we already finished, but x-2 seems to get a lot of shit (at least in western countries, where as in japanese rankings x-2 seems to be miles in front of xii...)

any recommendations with that in mind? i might add i'm totally fine with the main-cast beeing all female and singing in a girlgroup, i liked lulu as a character and yuna and rikku were ok too, so no problems there...

  5. Oh wait. I was called a hater? But I don't hate them, just don't like the way their music is produced LOL I think haters are those guys who are all "this is totally crap, no one should ever listen to this, who listens to this is stupid" and this is not what I'm saying.

it's fine, nobody get's called a hater in honesty here :D(you did call them lame tho :P )

let me just ask you this,

as you've already stated the music is more or less fine for you (besides vocals, but let's assume they'd be ok too), why would you let some esotheric, semi-religious preconceptions about what is "true" and what is "false" and how some arbitrary label "should" or "shouldn't" be take that away from you?

or let it force you to more or less baselessly judge some honest fun of participating musicians, performers and recipients?

  6. ...written by sellout buisnessmen...

    *facepalm*

yeah the discussion had a few points, but it's like running against a stone wall of unfounded misconceptions which just forces repetition, because a reasonable answers has yet to be given.

how would me writing a song/choreo/concept, but not performing it myself lessen my "authenticity"?

how does Leonard Bernstein performing a symphony by L.v.Beethoven lessen his "authenticity"? (or beethovens for that matter...)

do we all now get our "artist"-cards revoked?

what the hell do you mean with authenticity anyways and how is it in any way related to music? where do you get the impression that either the idols or the songwriters/producers are it not?

from the very get go they made clear that the songs where written/produced by some full-fledged metal producers (that damn well know their shit) and performed by idols who didn't know anything about metal in the first place but now probably have the time of their lives performing for huge crowds all over the world.

    going by the definition of

Fake = Pretending sth you're not

this is pretty much the very opposite of "fake" and in-authentic.

fun-fact: a quality indicator for a non-sensical argument is usually the phrase "This is not [genre]"

EDIT: and before you'll go with "i clearly stated TO ME" again and the usual "just MY opinion" stuffs, nobody would say anything if you'd just posted "meh i don't like'em, i like sweat, beards and tattooes better", but randomly throwing buzzword accusations (famewhores, sellouts, puppets, businessmen, pop-idiots etc.) revokes your freedom of personal opinion and make it a general case :P

  7. BABYMETAL is a fabricated pop group supported by heavy guitars...besides the fact that none of them had any idea of metal when they started out.

Point beeing? i fail to see it

How difficult is it to do this kind of thing if the only thing you have to do yourself is hitting the right tone?

as mentioned earlier, if you're statement would be true this would also apply to every single goddamn bandmember existing except for the songwriters themselves. this would also apply to the whole frickin concept of classical music.

    (...)METAL, (...)METAL and (...)METAL, really???

how is cheesy clichee shit cool with every other metal-thing and fantasy-movies etc. but not with this? i understand not liking cheesy stuff, but hell no to double standards

If this is what VK is trying to do since 2007, then I'm damn glad letting it go

I'm no expert on identifying VK, but i'm pretty sure this is not

At least to me there's more to music than pure catchiness and famewhoring. And BABYMETAL really kill the idea of metal

don't worry, nobody does and should care about anyones definition of what genre xy should be

Every little idiot nowadays is able to write catchy melodies. Especially in pop genre, which it basically is.

that statement has never been true, and it certainly hasn't changed "nowadays"

    Also: basically everything relentless said

  8. It's really catchy to listen to, but the kawaiiness is annoying sometimes (that's part of the reason I dropped anime almost completely). And I don't like the way it is produced. BABYMETAL is just a selling machine. Well produced music, yes, but still just a selling machine. I enjoy when artists make a song themselves and put their souls on it. The musicians behind BABYMETAL are just making music to sell, nothing else. And the girls are also singing and dancing to sell. There's no purpose beyond that. Lame.

ok, i think i need to adress this.

i read that kind of argument a LOT and the hypocrisy behind it is just staggering.

when in a band the guitarist writes all of the music you don't hate on the other members for playing songs they didn't write, you don't hate on actors who perform in movies/theatre that they didn't write the piece they perform, you don't hate on classical orchestras that perform music by guys already dead for hundreds of years, but somehow it is "lame" and for some not really apparent reason without "soul" when 3 teenage girls perform a series of high-energy metal-gigs all over the world?

on top of that these tracks are so wildly creative, new and fresh, but apparently only the concept of a selling-machine?

u-huh, because death-core-powermetal tracks about chocolate with reggae parts and dragonforce guitar-solos are a failproof combination for big bucks. sure thing...

i can totally understand having a disliking for the cutesy high-pitched voices, or the riddicculous genre-mish-mash that is going on, or just the tracks in general for their complexity or whatever.

but listening to those tracks it is painstakingly clear, that a LOT of creativity, thought, work and heart went into creating something truly interesting here

(and the amount of controversy they stir up is probably the most solid proof of that)

if now the second guitarist from the right is the writer of the tracks or not, how would that make any difference?

  9. It's been a while since I've explored new Japanese music, but does Japan have that many raspy, Eddie Vedder-ish sounding vocalists, or any 90's grunge-sounding stuff in general (like Alice in Chains, Audioslave, etc.)?

it's not quite up there, but the guys from "byee the round"

and "nothing is carved in stone"

    are quite raspy.

most filth in the voice would be (both) singers of church of misery, but they're quite stoner-y

but yes, it's quite the rare sight

  10. just recently found out that PS2 emulators work pretty darn well and now am terribly addicted to FF-X. also this is a great opportunity to experience a FF game that is considered one of the best (i think?) without knowing pretty much anything about the story/universe :) (currently about 35hours in...)

next stop shadow of the colossus

  11. usually i think i prefer the more old-school VK band like calmando qual here,

but in this case with lycaon in the race i must admit, that with their pv for eros, with them actually swallowing cum, they've shown a dedication to the whole VK-genre that other bands still struggle to achieve.

my vote goes for modern VK here :)

  12. sooo, first episode of tokyo ghoul was a bit of a mixed bag, i really don't like the main character (or any of the characters) so far.

also everything story-related is probably the most generic and obvious stuff that one can think of when speaking about sombie/vampire-esque shows in general, so this was pretty disappointing too.

that beeing said, the thing looks bloody brilliant, beautiful scenes and settings aswell als great animated and directed sequences (particularly liked the bit when trying to eat again...). who knows, could still obviously become more interesting, it's only been one episode so far...

first episode of free! eternal sth was nice aswell, pretty much what you'd expect, some bro-ing/friendshipstuffs, some sports, tons of fanservice and some brilliant animation.

started the new SOA too despite hating and dropping the first one after 15-ish episodes. so far the setup is nice and i'm genuinely interested what might happen in the course of the arc but i'm still very much positive that it'll be turning into some storytelling/pacing-trainwreck and overall low-level harem show again (the last scene + the ending/outro seem like a quality indication of that...)

  13. Hey guys,

as some might already know i also play in a band as saxophonist (or atm bassist)

    Facebook

it was mainly a backgroundmusic-swing-coverband when i joined, but we now have changed towards only playing original self-composed material that borders into the aforementioned genres (i'd like to think it compares a bit to Tokyo Jihen, but that's probably a stretch/wishfull thinking)

we released an album back in march (i think) and here is a little trailer of that

most of these songs (all save for 'brother') have been written by me, but the CD also features a bunch of songs from other bandmembers too.

thanks in advance if you took the time to listen to some of the stuff, and even more thanks in advance if you decide to leave some feedback or sth :)

  14. As someone who has only listened to two albums (Shion and the one with the Ageha and Sora to Ito PVs) and their song "Ryuusei" back in '08-ish, what is an example of "when Mucc were good?"

Asking since any discussion related to this band seems to be just complaining that doesn't mean a whole lot to anyone who hasn't really followed them.

also generally still considered "good MUCC" probably, but without the angsty vibe of the early releases are the two albums that you already have (shion and kyuutai) plus Gokusai (which is very much worth checking out if you like those you already have...)

  15. watched the finale yesterday finally aswell, i can understand pretty much all critisism the episode has to take (suddenly magic everywhere, too much stuff in one episode, kinda inconsequent behavior by arya etcetc...), but for some reason it doesn't bother me at all, i had a most pleasant time and found it a magnificent end to probably my favorite season of this series so far.

Jeez, that's quite un-representative... reminds me i have to delete a whole bunch of that crappy indie-boredom. subways and fratellis? srsly? also two times german hiphop is quite the coincidence, but Kinderzimmer is great :D

my pick is Still Radwimps DADA, this might be one of my favourite songs in general probably^^
