Boy do I need to catch up! I haven't read the manga since the end of the Dressrosa arc, and I stopped watching the anime somewhere in the middle of the Dressrosa arc, as it seemed like they were stretching out the episodes so much that the pacing just became painfully slow. I know the manga is still on fire, but has the quality and pacing of the anime improved much since?

from what I hear no. The anime's pacing is still just as bad as always. I dropped the anime years ago and became a manga only reader and I have no regrets. the manga was always better anyways imo. you should totally binge the manga tho :)

  2. man this is such a loaded discussion but since it is top 5 "favorite" here are mine in no particular order.

    Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu

    Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo

    Hajime no Ippo

    FLCL

    3-gatsu no Lion

That was legit hard as fuck, if you were to ask me to do it over next week it would likely be completely different (except FLCL, that shit will always be a fav). oh btw I started watching anime in 1999 when I was around 7 years old.

    now i will include what I consider to be top 5 of all time, there's a important distinction between the two;

    Dragon Ball

    Kidou Senshi Gundam

    Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu

    Cowboy Bebop

    Ghost in the shell

(would probably throw evangelion in here somewhere as well as Akira if we are doing movies)

Not gonna lie doe, Jojo would have been #5 (and bumped Violet Evergarden off), but I just can't get anyone else to watch it, making me think I'm the only one who thought it was good, so I must be wrong lol.

violet evergarden is very good, one of the best shows that season and year, I'm excited for the movie.

    Right now I've got:

Shure SE215's: longest lasting pair I've had, got 'em in late '15, had to replace the cable once last year, but I'm thinking of upgrading

Burmester speakers for my car ('10 Porsche Panamera S): dropped the bass by 3/6, raised the treble by 3/6, gives it a more balanced sound, no other modifications.

[doesn't have pictures of the car speakers]

I unfortunately don't have any good in-home speakers. A few years ago, I got a DOSS Bluetooth speaker to use with my computer and turntable, but it sounds shitty so I use it as a book-end for my 7" records.

Whenever I listen to records, I have a Creative Sound Blaster that I only use so I can adjust the volume (left). Sometimes when I don't want to move my record player from the shelf in my closet to the floor or my desk, I'll add in some Bluetooth equipment that purists would frown upon (right).

    i8nAiUw.jpg

Most of my music listening is with my earbuds or in the car, so what I've got works for now (unless everyone's gone and I want to listen to music on speakers, in which case, ugh).

I've heard some good things about shure IEMs, the only thing I've ever used from them though is their alcantara earpads which are legit some of the softest pads I've ever worn.

My current IEM endgame is the BGVP DM7

    kri9aVb.jpg

Excellent pair of IEMs luckily I was able to avoid a QC nightmare and my pair works perfectly, Hopefully they'll get their process under control because they really make some of the best value Chi-fi IEM you can get right now.

The Mad Dogs are still really nice, but the stickers on the side have peeled off so they just look like the MK2s on the outside. I actually bought the last pair Dan sold on the site, so hopefully mine last for a long time. I thought about the Alpha upgrade, but I heard the mod made the cans slightly too sibilant, which I'm a bit sensitive to. The stack is nice, but the Magni 2 doesn't drive enough power to my liking for the MDs which I have it go out to the Panasonic (so it functions as a pre-amp.)

How do the MK3s compare to the Mad Dog mod? I heard the MK3s were a marked improvement over the MK2s, but I wasn't sure how they compared to the MDs.

Also have to mention that your setup reminds me of Zeos' (Z Reviews), who's influenced most of my audio-related purchases.

Nice :D. Oh yea, none of them play nice with USB 3.0. I have a USB 2.0 switcher that my Modi is plugged in to.

    ---

Forgot to mention on the portable end I have LG Tone Platinums (I bought refurb), Jaybird X3s (that need repairing), Tin Audio T2s, and Koss KSC75s (rip etika). Since adapters/dongles are dogshit and bluetooth eats my battery, I have my iPod Classic 6g w/ Rockbox as my backup device once the phone battery gets low. Also my Vita can't do newer gen bluetooth, so I'm forced to go wired anyway.

I've never listened to the mad dogs myself but I've heard that the MK3 is close but just not as refined at the MD mod. Also the MK3 are even more power hungry than the MD, if you can barely push the MD then you have no chance for the MK3. It is the most power hungry cans I own. As for sound the MK3 is super mid focused with a decent amount of treble, they shine with female vocals and is my favorite thing about listening to them. They are a little bass-lite which is one of the main reasons I'm gonna send them in for the Argon conversion.

Yeah Zeos is a big influence on my purchasing habits as well as a few other reviewers, I took both the foobar portrait ultra wide monitor and the yoga mat idea from his setup for my own. but seriously yoga mat is like one of the best things I ever discovered from him, I put that shit on everything now. It is vibration and sound dampening as well as slip proof :) and it makes everything look cooler imo, also don't have to worry about dust anymore.

Speaking of Schiit stacks, @colorful人生 inspired me to get my own Magni/Modi set up. I was having trouble getting Windows 10 to recognize the device as something that plugs in but doesn't communicate with it. I think I need to avoid USB 3.0 ports or something because the Magni/Modi 1 doesn't play nice with them.

And here's what it's attached to, Sennheiser HD 600 with a Modmic Wireless attached.

    20190819_182159.jpg

Nice setup! I was gonna go with a modmic wireless but then I saw the price tag and it kinda scared me away (too much for something that could and probably will crap out after a few years), for around the same amount of money I got a Blue Yeti Desk Mic instead.

How do you like the HD 600? I have the 6xx (basically a 650) but have never tried the 600. Might be getting one soonish though if I can find a good price used, Heard they are amazing on a OTL Tube amp like my Darkvoice.

    can't sleep, so i post

pc is just left of memetop + ps3 and ps4 on the bottom two boxes

check out my janky-ass setup w/ my magni 2 feeding into my old receiver, lol

the headphones not pictured here (hanging below my desk) are my Mr. Speakers Mad Dogs, SPH9500 w/ my old Alpha Pads, and ATH-M50s

    *also my mic's pop filter is retracted b/c I don't really use it anyway ;;

Nice shit stack you got there :D I've never used anything from schiit but lots of people swear by their amp/dacs. I wouldn't mind getting their hybrid tube amp at some point, the Mjolnir I believe it's called.

How are those mad dogs? I'm about to get ready to send my T50RP3 in to modhouse for the Argon conversion soon myself.

I stayed away from anime for the longest time, but I've just finished watching the entirety of Mob Psycho 100. Ran through the whole thing in 3 days. It was spectacular. Felt the same as I did back then watching all my favorite anime series as a kid.

Also watching Sangatsu no Lion and really enjoying it too! Next on the list are Fruits Basket and the rest of Evangelion (never finished it and there's still half to go).

Mob psycho 100 is one of the most satisfying adaptions I've ever seen, also one of the most uniquely animated, it is so good. I can't wait for the 3rd and final season. 3 gatsu no lion is likewise amazing as well, I'm confident saying that it is one of my favorite shows ever.

As annoyingly over-the-top as some of the supporting characters are, I gotta say - Kimetsu no Yaiba is quite the spectacle so far.

yeah that is legit one of my biggest gripes with the show, Zenitsu is so annoying in a lot of his scenes, but i guess that is the point of his character and makes sense in the long run with his character payoff in this current arc.

  10. So I've fallen pretty hard into HiFi (High Fidelity) audio gear and lifestyle. I've amassed a pretty good setup and a nice collection of gear and was wondering if there was any interest here on the forum. We can pretty much just use this thread to post pictures of each others setups and stuff essentially as well as discuss different gear. I know we already have a headphone thread, but don't be afraid to post headphones/earphones in here as well, I'm aiming to make this a general audio gear thread, so post away.

post pictures of whatever you want your full setup or individual gear. Doesn't have to be limited to desk setups either, shows us your living- room setups and movie watching systems.

I'll start by just posting some pictures of my current desk setup .

that's enough for now, next time I'll get some pictures of my tv setup and maybe some of my portable gear.

  11. Can we all just take a fucking moment and appreciate the most recent episode (#19) of Kimetsu no Yaiba (Demon Slayer)? I've been enjoying this show quite a bit and yes it's had some minor problems, nothing big. Started off very strong and kinda slowed down for a little while now, but overall it's been way above average and some quality shit.

Then there's this episode that just cranks every fucking thing up to 11. Holy shit the production value is ridiculous! Animation, soundtrack, voice acting, everything is just oozing top quality "production let's fucking blow there minds value". I know there is a lot of hype around this show right now and rightfully so, but let's be realistic here. Do I think this is the best shounen ever like many people are claiming because of this episode? No not even close, but do I think this might be one of the best directed and produced anime episodes that I've ever seen? Yeah probably.

I'm always asked what my favorite studio is and I might throw a few out because hey it's hard to just choose one, but I always give UFOTABLE a high spot and people roll there eyes 9/10 times. "I mean yeah their animation is pretty, but those FATE adaptions are rough... and too hard to understand".

It is ridiculously hard to adapt a work into an animated series especially a video game source and especially a series as bat shit insane and complicated as FATE and I think they do a fairly decent job at it. But give them a smaller project with less convoluted source material and freedom to do what they want ? We get some hella good shit. This manga was just the adaption they needed to flex a little

TLDR; Demon Slayer episode 19 is AOTY (so far), it is legit objectively & subjectively good.

It looks good. I've never actually played the Fire Emblem games for 3DS because they always did that fucking annoying thing of releasing two versions of the same story in separate games which really turned me off because I never knew which one to go for. They finally release a game on its own aaaand it's for the Switch, which I don't have 🙃 I'll probably get one next year, though. A new Animal Crossing game is coming out on March 20th, 2020 and IIII NEEEEED IIIIT

They only did that with Fire Emblem Fates... and I agree it was stupid . I don't want to have to buy it twice to get the whole experience. Fire Emblem Awakening though is still worth checking out if you're interested in the series, it's the game that kinda ignited the series current popularity over here in the west and is really good, perfect game to start with as well.

  13. I've used the google play music method in the past and it is indeed convenient, but it has it's limitations (sound quality) and I'm not the biggest fan of the app UI. It is probably the easiest method though.

I currently use a slightly more complicated method to stream my collection to my devices, but in the end the SQ and other advantages are worth the extra hassle.

Foobar2000 w/ foo_upnp plugin (Source Machine) -> Bubbleupnp Server (Source Machine) -> Bubbleupnp Mobile app

Basically you have a foobar installation running with your media library loaded  and foo_upnp server running then configure bubbleupnp server on the same machine to work with foobar upnp server. at this point all you need to do is configure the bubbleupnp app to receive the server from your source machine and voila full quality FLAC files on the go as well as your full collection anywhere.

You can also use other media servers other than foobar, I just use foobar because it's convenient since I already use it and it's always open on my PC anyways. But you could use something like servio and accomplish the same thing as well as videos and pictures too.

  14. I tried to play it because like yeah... I see FATE and I naturally want to consume everything type-moon related. I'm just a simple man. but for some reason I just can't do phone games, and by that I mean actually play a game on my phone. i detest it .

I've been  thinking about playing it through emulator on my PC tho... maybe. if they made a switch port that would be awesome.

  15. I think this idea was floated at some point back when I was staff... but just stay with me for a second.

I propose a change up to how trade offs are delivered and executed. Instead of the private one on one affair that they have been up to this point, we take the same setup and premise of the event and make it more of thing everybody on the forum can enjoy even people who do not want to actually participate in the event itself. Basically I think we should make a subforum in the DL section just for mix tapes and require participants in the tradeoff to post their mixes for the public to check out as well as their trade off partners. We would basically have a thread for each tradeoff and that thread would be solely to index the mixes for each event and where people can offer their thoughts on particular mix they checked out.

    I'm thinking something along these lines;

    • Run the sign up thread just like normal in the general sub forum where it's always been
    • When all participants have been matched with a respective partner open a hidden thread in the new subforum (new rule; when the participant sends their mix off to their partner also have them send a copy to the trade-off organizer) This way the organizer can start compiling  a master post in the thread with each mix.
    • once all mixes have been sent and received and compiled in hidden thread, unlock the thread and release into the world
    • Partners will still review their respective mixes in the same sign up thread in general subforum as always while everyone else can do their own reviews/feed back in the DL thread (or we can have it all in one place, but this might need some brainstorming considering some people are really quick and might be done before the last person receives their mix...)

    This format will ideally accomplish several things;

    • Increase buzz and awareness for the trade-off events themselves
    • Give the forum a dedicated place to post mixtapes with DL links freely
    • Encourage and foster the creation and sharing of mixtapes and new music with people
    • lead to new and exciting evolution of the trade-off event we have come to love so much.
    • lead to other music sharing/reviewing events on the forum (possibly user organized events instead of staff)

I don't think the way we are running the trade-off currently makes much sense anymore, sure at one point it did, but we've been doing these for how long now? We need to innovate it a little IMO and make it interesting for the usual suspects as well new prospects. This will do nothing but good and promote the sharing of good music and the art of mixtape creation.

@CAT5 @Zeus @Shir0 @Seimeisen @platy @paradoxal @YuyoDrift @Ito Hit me up, I'm down to flesh this out some more and really make something awesome and worthwhile out of this.

    Peace I'm out.

  16. I got my HE4XX a few days ago and they are great set of cans. Really enjoying the difference in sound signature from my sennheiser and AKG cans.

But I also got something else in the post that I ordered a while back from massdrop...

    af0Mnle_d.jpg?maxwidth=640&shape=thumb&f

LCX x SDAC aka my end game headphone amp (for now).
