  1. Still playing Assassins Creed: Odyssey... damn this game is long. like really fucking long, it's almost to the point where i just don't know if I want to continue... Like it's good but  not amazing and it's definitely scratching a massive open world RPG itch for me atm, but sometime I just don't feel like even bothering when i know that I've been playing 40 hours and I've barely even been to  a quarter of all the landmasses on the map and probably completed even less than a quarter of the content 😫 I just really want to start Yakuza Kiwami too so... that could be a reason why i just want to bail... hahaha

  2. Just ordered a pair of the Massdrop x HIFIMAN HE4XX Planar Magnetic Headphones last week and they are already shipped and on the way! Couldn't believe it considering that the ship date was not supposed to be till the middle of July. I really don't need to buy anymore headphones, this pair is gonna make number 10, at this point my headphone rack is starting to look like a youtube reviewers setup

I just couldn't resist these sexy things...

    AI7B0289_copy_cordless_20170801113907.jp

the plus side is that these supposedly sound a lot different than most of the cans in my collection, at least according to several reviewers so... I guess having options in sound signature is pretty dope :D

Just beat Horizon Zero Dawn. It was my first "shooter" type game and I had a great time with it.

Since then I've been looking for a good JRPG to play but nothing really hooks me the way Persona 5 and Nier Automata did. Replaying Xenosaga on PS2 kinda remedied that, but damn, I need more--something to really sink all my time into. I'm just a picky bitch!!

Debating on picking up FFXIV again, but pugging dungeons with randos kinda stressed me out. I also ran out of things to do in the game. I don't raid, craft, sell or RP, so I just quit after leveling the classes I liked and finishing the Stormblood MSQ. I'd probably be bored if I came back, even with Shadowbringers coming. That's what my anti-social ass gets for treating an MMO like an offline single player game. :')

If you want a really good old school style JRPG to sink your teeth into, I can Recommend Dragon Quest XI. One of my favorite games from last year and you could easily sink 100+ hours into its story and post game activities. Just be warned that it is very "purist" in a lot of its design, so if that doesn't bother you I'd say it's a good pick.

I've been playing the hell out of Yakuza 0 recently... finally bit the bullet and started it up last month, I regret not starting it sooner. I'm already done with the main scenario and now i'm sinking a ton of time into completing all the sub stories and mini games :D

And I just started Assassin's Creed Odyssey, and man does this game really remind me of The Witcher 3.... in a good way! I'm really digging what I've played so far and I'm glad that I can finally enjoy another AC game again, after the disaster that Unity was I never went back. Feels good to know they bounced back.

I'm also Twitch streaming now occasionally, most nights around 9pm CST for a few hours. anyone that wants to drop by feel free! http://twitch.tv/towa_sky

  4. Finished Kingdom Hearts 3 last week. It was everything I hoped it would be and more. A excellent culmination of the past 17 years in the franchise.

    Spoiler

I won't go into too much detail, but this game delivered excellently on a lot of the communities long standing questions pertaining to lore and plot points that were mysteries before this game, it also confirmed more than a few theories that had been floating around for the past few years.

The best choice for this game was to trim the fat (aka the out of place FF characters and dependency on Disney villains) and really emphasis and focus more on the KH original characters and flesh out the lore a lot more. The characters and the overarching KH story/mythos really came into it's own with this game and showcased a lot of the inner workings of the story out into the limelight. A lot of these elements have always been there but not so clearly out in the open as they were in this entry.

There are some moments in this game (a lot in the last quarter of the game) that just hit you so hard in the feels. moments that the fandom have been waiting literally over a decade for, and they just feel so well earned and amazingly done.

    BIG KH3 Spoiler below

    Spoiler

I have to talk about the implications of the two after credit scenes and what they mean for the series going forward. The first scene which showcases clearly that Sora is gone and what I believe to indicate that he has actually died or at least something akin to dieing. His mortality was hinted at several time through the story by multiple organization XIII members. There is a price to pay for using the power of waking excessively and Sora is fast approaching that point at the end of the game. the big problem with this is the issue of timelines, when does he die? clearly we see kairi in the this cut scene so some time has had to of passed, enough time for him to go save her and then come back to destiny islands where he then dissapears....  then there's the issue of whether or not this scene should even be taken in a literal canonical sense but more in a metaphorical sense that yes he save Kairi and yes he dies but maybe not in the way the scene showcases it, after all Nomura is notorious for misdirection and retconning when it comes to after credit and secret scenes in KH.

Onto the second secret scene that you only can see if you collect the right amount of lucky emblems in the game... or in my case just watch it on YT. This is by far the craziest secret scene we've ever gotten. Sora ends up waking up in Shibuya.... yes Shibuya, Japan. or at least what a lot of people are pretty positive is the version of Shibuya that is in the game TWEWY (The World Ends With You), yeah baby this is a Square Enix World! At the Same time Riku is in a similar part of Tokyo (not sure where, there is a lot of crazy geography mapping going on among the community right now) but it pans out to show that not only a mysterious hooded figure is watching them but also Yozora is in this world which aids to the assumption that this is a world based on the Verum Rex video game  and advertisement that you see early in KH3 during the Toy Story portion of the game. Verum Rex is technically an original SE thing being a game withing a game so therefore also a SE World...

Yes I believe and a lot of people believe KH4 will not only include Disney worlds but will predominantly have you exploring worlds from other Square Enix games. Which makes more sense when you consider there were zero SE characters in KH3, not even a cameo. Maybe we will finally get an answer to why FF characters were apart of the games before this, I expect some kind of lore connection or explanation.

But now to even more revelations, this clearly showcase that Sora is alive right? maybe not. TWEWY to my understanding deals a lot with death and shinigami. the version of Shibuya in TWEWY is a place that people go when they die. Sora is DEAD! honestly that connection is brilliant but wait for it. what if Sora knew he was going to die at the end of KH3 and he knew that he would have to in order to go save Kairi? After all he seemed pretty confident in what he had to do to save her and hence why he decided to do it alone without any of his companions. I believe Sora dies or like i said earlier, something very similar to death in order to chase after kairi, and just so happened that TWEWY Shibuya is where it took him.

There is obviously a lot of loose ends and plot holes in this, but I do stand firm on the belief that Sora does face his mortality in some way after the events of KH3 and that whatever is happening with him and Riku in the secret cutscene happens prior to him saving Kairi and dissapearing on destiny islands.

please excuse the misspelling, I don't have time right now to proofread this LOL

I Also just started Metro: Exodus and goddamn is this just about the best graphics I've ever seen, 4A is really pushing some amazing super graphics with this engine. Some of the lighting effects are the most impressive I've ever seen.

  5. Banana Fish might have just shot up to my favorite series this year.... this weeks episode was so good! To think that this show still has more than an entire cour left too is just crazy, I can't wait to see where they take it.

Stein's Gate 0 is also hitting hard these last few episode, I never got around to playing the VN for 0 even after 100 percenting the first game.... that might have to change soon.

    • MrSpeakers Mad Dogs [Over-ear | Planar Magentic | Closed] (Got one of the last 5 pairs before he discontinued the mod. My favorite by far)
      • Advantages: Phenomenal detail w/ nice soundstage. They color the sound to my tastes (warm and bassy, with a bit of sibilance) without compromising midrange.
      • Disadvantages: They do color the sound a bit, so some might take issue. They're a bit bulky/heavy.
    • Philips SHP9500 [Over-ear | Open] (I got them for $50 and they're a bit Frankenstein-ish w/ my old Alpha Pads and a Bluetooth adapter)
      • Advantages: They're cheap for how they perform. The alpha pads add even more bass and seem to open the space more than before. They don't run on a lot of power, so a bluetooth adapter can drive them just fine.
      • Disadvantages: Not as detailed as the others. The alpha pads further muddle the upper range.
    • Audio Technica ATH-M50 [Over-ear On-ear| Closed] (They're nice esp. w/ velour pads, but I'm probably going to let them go soon)
      • Advantages: A lot of detail, especially with the high-end. They're the most portable of the three (-sans the cord.)
      • Disadvantages: ...The V shaped signature is nice, but it loses quite a bit of midrange. The soundstage is really "tight", it's too "up-front" for my tastes.

    • LG Tone Platinum [IEM | Bluetooth | Closed] (Got a refurbished pair of these, they're pretty good for a headset)
    • Jaybird X3's [IEM | Bluetooth | Closed] (I love...d these...The right side popped off a week ago, so I need to get them repaired)
    • Then I have some cheap sony wired buds for my Vita... I might replace them with some T2's b/c they're detachable.

Need some advice. I'm using my planar magnetics (Mad Dogs) with a Schiit Stack (Magni2/Modi2), but they weren't cutting it for some reason. I ended up using my Magni as a pre-amp for an 80's Optonica SM-3300 amplifier (which my speakers are hooked up to as well), and I immediately heard a difference. Everything sounds much fuller & dynamic, but the SM-3300 is huuuge.

TL;DR does anybody have any suggestions for (or experience with) more "modern", regular-sized amps that would give me the same vintage sound that can replace my Magni2 -> Optonica solution?  (Perhaps some sort of tube amp?)

Take this with a grain of salt because I've never owned a tube amp or used one for that matter, but what I hear around the web is that THIS is supposed to be a very good entry into the tube amp space. I always see people recommending the Crack 1.1 if you want to go this route. Might need to do some more research on it before deciding, but I hope this helps you.

I'm actually really jealous since technically this is exactly what I would build if I had 3 grand laying around XD I'll get some good pictures of his and my build here in the next week or so and post. his shit is really impressive since it is RGB to hell and back... looks really pretty.

  8. Chio-chan no Tsuugakuro, Asobi Asobase, and Grand Blue all are shows that were completely under my radar, but have consistently had me in tears so far. Very funny shit.

Angolmois: Genkou Kassenki seems like it'll be pretty good plus it's been far too long since I've watched a Historical anime that felt this good out of the gate.

Banana Fish has me enthralled with the first two episodes, I don't really know anything about the source material but I'm really into this American gangster setting in anime it's pulling off. might be a AOTY contender.

Hanebado! Gonna go ahead and call this one my anime of the season, I'm just a damn sucker for sports anime and what a obscure sport to do an anime on. I mean it's fucking badminton for Christ sake, but I'll be damned if I'm not just utterly captivated by the animation and art in this show, and by the end of the third episode I'm all in on these characters and can really feel their struggles and relate.

Isekai Maou to Shoukan Shoujo no Dorei Majutsu yes it's a isekai ecchi harem show... But I really like it. So sue me, I like big voluptuous elven titties and the significantly flatter but in no way inferior loli boobs in this show.

    Update after 2 weeks:

    These are fucking amazing.

I don't even know where to begin describing how these babies sound.

Using audiophile jargon, if I were to compare them to the HD600s, I'd say they are less "bright", and more "full". Compared to my HD6XXs, it's definitely a more wild child as the upper mids are strong as hell, and let loose the more you drive them, probably due to the low impedance. It's got a fresh sound, with like a "grip" on the bass, and so it doesn't sound like it spills over. Defintely not as smooth as the HD650/HD6XX in terms of sound, as it's very lively, which is definitely good for rock music. I wish I had a pair of HD660S' to try out but I don't :( . I have heard that is sound just like it, and that the only major difference is that the HD660S is smoother and more true to sound.

In any case, I'd definitely say I scored big time for these with the price of $150, and I even got a low serial number from the first production run lol.

I was actually thinking about snagging a pair of these the last time they were up on massdrop but I couldn't justify it considering I have like 6 pairs of headphones already lol. with that said, would you recommend these to someone who already owns HD 579 and HD6XX?

  10. Still plugging away at Monster Hunter World off and on the last few months, playing a lot the past week for the summer twilight fest event. It's funny actually, I'm coming up on 400 hours in the game (currently 394 or something) and here I am about to start completely over from scratch next month when the PC version drops...

I've been finishing a lot of games that I started a while back as well; Nier Automata, DOOM, Dishonored 2 . Also doing a playthrough of Bayonetta on PC since it's been legit 8 years since I played through it, plus the pc port is a damn gem. 1440p at a silky smooth 60fps obviously this is how the game was meant to be played all along.

  11. Just watched this video of Cory Barlog, game director of God of War reacting to the meta critic reviews released this week after the embargo lifted.

So emotional, I almost teared up. I can't even imagine  working on something for so long and just not knowing if it was gonna work out, and then all your doubts to just be cleared away at once. The stress alone was probably excruciating.

Can't wait to finally play the new vision of GOW that this man helped create. One more day.

I am quite sure I am about to offend @YuyoDrift with this, but I absolutely loathed FLCL. If one anime was ever the cause for anxiety attacks due to sensory overload, it would be this one. What a nonsensical, ugly and ill-conceived piece of garbage. Whoever today still claims this to be a 'coming-of-age' masterpiece needs to straighten themselves out; there is absolutely no story, no plot and no secretive and underlying hidden meaning in this whatsoever.

    man your words cut deep.

It's cool though FLCL is definitely not for everyone, I have noticed people who never seen it back in the day are more likely to not really enjoy the show from my experiences. Obviously as great deal of nostalgia comes into play as well with this show. I recently urged a friend who had never seen it to check it out in preparation for the 2nd and 3rd seasons later this year... and yeah he pretty much stopped after the second or third episodes and couldn't continue, broke my heart, but I understand what can be off putting about the series.

I still rank FLCL in my top 10 of all time shows though. It's just the perfect OVA  nothing has gotten close to the level of satisfaction and compactness and just overall quality since imo.
