LOL, just post your thoughts in the review forum. You don't have to write anything fancy or long. Just write however you feel. Hell, even if you just post a thread to start the discussion and then come back and fill in your thoughts later -> that's cool too. Ain't nobody gonna trip about it.

If you go through the general review forum, you'll see that plenty of people have done that in the past. It used to be a really common practice here, but I suppose it's dropped off a bit. But fuck all that, just take the initiative and start one of you own. ; )

I actually liked this Greatest Hits collection wayyy more than I thought I would. My interest in Versailles all but died with their lackluster 4th album, but seeing as NONE of those tracks made it on this collection, the band felt similarly about their 2012-era, haha. The 2 new tracks are pretty cool, but I need to listen more. Overall, I feel like my Versailles fandom is rejuvenated and I'm excited to hear whatever their first real "new" release will be.

i think it is interesting you say that @lichtlune. In some ways that means I achieved the goal I set out to with ORZ. When @CAT5and I originally founded ORZ it was in response to a dearth of well thought out ideas on an album. a "review" used to consistute a sentence or two and then a contrived rating. we didn't feel as if such a system gave a reader an honest impression of the music.

ORZ has their way of doing things and that shouldn't affect how non-ORZ members use the review forum. its part of the reason why i created a subforum for ORZ reviews in the first place. and even within ORZ there aren't lots of rules about how to write things. we agreed on a standard template only because it's easier for us. but for example there's no such thing as a review length. they can be as short or as long as they want. i've written reviews that are pages long and reviews that are only 2 paragraphs. it's really about what you have to say and how many words it takes you to say it. so really the concept of a mini-review doesn't exist to me. any sufficiently detailed thoughts about a release constitutes as a review in my mind and is always welcome in the review section. if they aren't directly related to a release and are general comments about an album they can go in the artist thread or even the general forum.

Well, it depends on what you're into! What would you be looking for in particular? If you're not looking for anything specifically, then here are some of my personal favorites.

I'm super into downy lately. They just dropped their 6th album (which is awesome), but the 5th is my favorite! One-of-a-kind sound, that's kind of a mish-mash of post-rock, trip-hop and a ton of other influences. Certainly very moody and ethereal at times too. Has a very dystopian feel to them. Brilliant.

THE NOVEMBERS - Even tho they have an album called "elegance", that's really how I'd describe their sound. They seem to have this perfect balance between light and dark with their music, and whatever side they choose, it's always done with a certain beauty and grace. It's hard to describe but these guys are just fantastic, and their song-writing is top notch. "Zeitgeist" is the album you want to start with, but their career from 2011 and on is just stellar. They have a new album out in less than 2 weeks too!

凛として時雨 - the high-pitched vocals may put you off at first, but if you can get around that, then this band is just fucking brilliant. Blistering energy and some of the sickest riffs in J-rock! Personally, I enjoy all of their music up through 2013, but they hit their creative peak in 2010.

八十八ヶ所巡礼 - fucking  killer band and one of my all-time favs. Crazy riffs, incredible energy, and just an all-around creative and absolutely eargasmic rock-fest. I'm just a fanboy tbh. Try the 2014 album first.

LOSTAGE - these guys are pretty straightforward indie-rock/hard-rock, but they're one of the best at it. They've been around for 15 years and they're well respected OG's of the scene by now. They've never been less than solid.

9mm Parabellum Bullet - You can ignore these guys after their first full album. (well, the stuff beyond that is alright, but it's just kind of standard mainstream hard-rock). Their early work was amazing though. They had a pretty unique sound that mixed elements of indie-rock, post-rock, punk, metal, and hardcore into one explosive cocktail. Shame they went so far south afterwards, as they helped pioneer an entire new sound for up-and-coming indie bands in the late 00's and early 2010's.

アルカラ - these guys definitely took notes from that early 9mm sound and turned it into something of their own. Get the 2012 and 2014 albums.

オワリカラ - These guys are rad and definitely take cues from rock of the 60's and 70's but with a kind of new-school freshness to it. Unfortunately, their more recent material has kind of lost the spark and initial rawness of their early career. The first 2 albums and the 3rd demo are gold, though!

SuiseiNoboAz  - These guys are very noticeably inspired by an earlier J-indie band called NUMBER GIRL, but they definitely had their own thing going. Once again, the first 2 albums are great, but they kind of fell off after that.

I can keep posting bands for days, so i'm gonna end the spam here! ahaha. Hope this helps, I'm always willing to hit you with more!
