ambivalentideal got a reaction from R/O in Difference between male and female vkei fans?
Honestly, I don't 100% understand the need to pick it apart and try to figure out how certain genders are supposed to or tend to like vk. I wish we could just sort of enjoy it and leave it at that but I guess that's not realistic. As a trans person (I bring this up because I used to be a "typical teen female fan" and am now a male fan, so I've been on both sides), it was always a mixed bag of loving the style and wanting to be like/dress like them, being attracted to the pretty members, and loving the music and the scene in general. It was like that from the beginning for me and honestly I would bet that it's mostly mixed of a few or even all of those things for most people. It's true that I used to be more into the members back then, but I think that had more to do with me being a teen than my perceived gender at the time lol. I still find a handful of members good looking but that's not much of a draw for me anymore (I am gay though, and js but I'm getting sick of seeing the claim on here that "gay men aren't attracted to androgynous men" lmao speak for yourself henny). Now I love the music and I guess I am pretty into the collecting aspect of it, but I think I have always been. I've always been into the aggressive, harsher sounding bands (UnsraW used to be one of my favorites back then) so idk if that really has anything to do with it. I'm more into the style than ever too, I started trying out my own vk looks within the last year. That's my personal experience anyway. And as others said, of course there is a difference between western fans' experiences/tendencies and those of Japanese fans. Also, I think the culture is changing over in Japan surrounding male fans. I think they're becoming more common and band members in newer bands are becoming a bit more open minded about it. Especially backed up with what Paraph was saying. The whole vk culture has changed so much even from when I first got into it and I definitely think that's part of it that has changed for sure, even if just by a bit.

I don't really think a lot of bands have a problem with male fans at all. At the virge tour final recently there were quite a few males and they shouted and growled and were accepted like everyone else. The guys were also buying and trading cheki. NAZUKI of La'veil MizeriA took a cheki with me as a present (well jaki took it of us), just offered randomly after I bought some merch. My experience was pretty positive that way. Kaina of Marvelous Cruelty even came out to meet me after their show at Shinsaibashi FANJ.

i did an in-store event with umbrella as well, and even though i was the only male the guys were really happy and asked where i was from and that was overall positive also.

Just remembered: During a La'veil MizeriA show a japanese male fan did a heart sign with their hands at miria like the girls did and he just ruffled his hair and smiled. it seemed everyone could enjoy it fully.

I think they may be referring to the fandom as a whole, which I suppose MH would fall into as well.

If I'm reading this right, you're trying to make distinctions as to why VK (and the artists we follow, more specifically) is appealing by old/new fans, and want to specifically correlate the various reasons provided down to the 2 sexes (stay back you others, we don't know what they mean yet)?

I don't think the answers will be so cut/dry as "X" likes this, and "Y" likes that , as you think they'll be. Too many factors at play.

I happened upon this site by chance a couple months ago and have hesitated to join ever since, but I thought it would be nice to chat about visual kei since none of my current friends listen to it.

I’m still a fairly new fan, I only discovered j-rock and visual kei in December of last year (2018), so I feel like I definitely have a lot to learn. Please do correct or inform me if I’m doing something wrong!

The bands I listen to most as of now are ACME, HELLO., HOWL, Lamiya, and SuG, but I’m always open to recommendations and would love to discover more music ♡

Did you ever just go about your life as usual, and suddenly saw a picture of a visual kei musician/band where you least expected to? Or did you notice an intentional (or unintentional) reference to J-rock somewhere totally out-of-place? I find it pretty fascinating whenever I come across something like this out of its usual subcultural bubble, makes me think whether the person who dropped that bit of VK in there did it knowingly or did it just happen by random.

Here, I'll show you what I mean:

In 2005 a Hungarian publishing house released a collection of short stories from Russian author Yuri Buyda (Юрий Буйда), titled "Porosz menyasszony" (Прусская невеста/Prussian Bride). The cover ended up being a photo of Mana (MALICE MIZER, Moi dix Mois) somehow...?

Issue #77 (October, 1998) of Todd McFarlane's famous comic book series Spawn apparently features a reference to X JAPAN on a whiskey bottle. I tried checking online whether this product was actually a thing, but I came up empty. Anyway, looks like ol' Todd might know a thing or two about Yoshiki & co.

I totally stole this idea from a metal forum, but I thought it would be fun to do with visual kei too.

Mods: if a thread like this already exists, pls delete this one and merge my post into it.

Almost one year ago, I mentioned a hentai VN called "Bangyaru!!", where you play the vocalist of a no-one-curr visual kei band. Also, Umbrella's first song is part of the OST.

Not to mention that the fictitious band's name is Laprimastra... and this could easily be a name of a real visual kei band kek

    Hi, I'm Yume ˄˄

Honestly I found this forum by accident but thought it might be fun to join, since I don't know a lot of people who listen to j-rock T_T , only the ones I met through The GazettE concert, which is like 4 people haha...

Anyway to say something about myself, I was always listening to music, around 5 years ago I started watching anime (oh, I'm 18 btw ˄˄) so since then I enjoyed listening to japanese music, but I never really knew what visual kei was... So around 2 years ago, I think, for some reason I looked up visual kei and listened to random song on youtube, none of them were really like "WOW" so I just kept on listening and then... The GazettE - DOGMA, I was blown away by Ruki's voice, such beautiful voice... Two years passed and I was able to meet them, they were all so sweet, gah I want to see them again...

So this is how my journey started, after The GazettE, it took me a year to find a band I would enjoy listening to, until then I still wasn't as interested in visual kei, but these 3 bands changed my way of thinking a year ago... And who else could it be than B.P.Records's Kiryu, Codomo Dragon and Royz! It was mainly Kiryu at first with the song Muku, can't believe a year already passed since then haha.

So well that's enough about my little story, honestly I love all the bands from B.P.Records and thanks to Baby Kingdom, I was able to find them, some of you might know who I'm talking about since it's quite obvious thanks to my profile picture, yes it's ZigZag. Seeing Kagemaru's passion being a drummer, of course I would fall in love with him, seriously I'm not joking. And then thanks to Kagemaru I discovered Kizu and that's how I ended here, I was looking up their lyrics and the first thing that showed up was this forum.

Now this should be enough of my story, I tried keeping it short, but I was so happy I could let someone know about this, I just couldn't hold back my feelings. There are other bands I listen to, but it's mainly just the ones I talked about here,  oh and Lynch. which I also discovered recently ˄˄

I also play games, read books/manga, watch anime and sometimes I draw, for some of my drawing and my recent fanart of Kagemaru you can go look at my instagram: kami_no_yume

Thank you for reading this far and it's nice meeting you all, hope we can become friends ˄˄

Oh also I probably didn't make it clear enough since I didn't talk about them almost at all, but my no.1 band is actually Codomo Dragon, there's just something about them, I love all the bands I listen to, but for some reason they are a bit more special to me, Yume out!

In my eyes, I think younger people like myself should be able to speak out against problems or protest about something wrong.

Sure, you may disagree with it but I think people should have the right to speak their minds as long as your not promoting hate speech.

From my experience, I find that being offended is subjective as somethings that may offend you may offend others so saying that EVERYONE is offended about is a bit hypocritical since the people who tend to say those things often say offensive things to others TO get them offended but then complain about how everyone is offended now a days.

Or the ones who say they aren’t offended and then proceed to get offended themselves
