reminiscing2004 reacted to Shradow in Greetings, everyone!
Making my first post on the site, I came here after seeing Ito's Jrock Heaven panel at ACEN this past weekend. I first started listening to Jrock and Japanese music in general after getting into it from L'Arc-en-Ciel's Ready Steady Go from the first FMA anime. Some of my favorite Jrock bands include L'Arc-en-Ciel, SID, FLOW, BRADIO, and Ling Tosite Sigure. I'm hoping to learn more about Jrock and get into some cool bands, thank you for having me!

A little old now, but just now getting back into playing songs off of this album. Working through 流転の塔 now. If anyone else is trying to find tabs for Dum Spiro Spero, it ain't easy. Ended up buying the band score from amazon.jp around $30: https://www.amazon.com/x300C-SPIRO-SPERO-x300D-score/dp/4401356705

reminiscing2004 reacted to returnal in Whose VK autographs do you have?
when i was at Tokyo in Tulsa I got the event flyer signed by MeteoroiD and cheki signed by Genki, plus my copy of 貴方だけを壊して飾ってみたい signed by everyone from Chanty
that's about it, save for a cheki of Chitose signed by him I bought once
-
reminiscing2004 reacted to robkun in Whose VK autographs do you have?
I never got any visual kei things signed in person (mostly because the bands I like haven't seen a livehouse outside of their place of their prefecture and were dead since at the latest 2004), but I have some things signed by old nobody bands like Rebirth, Requiem and 16,Piano. I might have some others, but those are the ones that come off the top of my head.

when i saw versailles earlier this year, hizaki forgot his first of like five solos when they played Silent Knight. maybe forgot isn't the right word, but his muscle memory got sort of lost after a phrase or two and his left hand was out of position, and he just kept playing to save face through it, the entire time staring out deeply into the audience, as he tends to do during many of his solos. like it was bad, out of key notes and then a really nervously improvised 'oh shit' recovery part after for fifteen seconds or so. it was the only part of the entire show where the musicianship was less than perfect from any of the members.
but anyway, while it was happening and he was staring into the audience, he locked eyes with me for like a second or two as soon as he seemed to start messing up and it was a very profound moment for some reason. it was just like a "oh shit, hizaki's not a god, but hizaki is actually a human being like me that makes mistakes" moment. psychologically as if i watched an idol die in front of me
felt as if i had like successfully walked through a wall or something akin in mental weirdness.

Well this sucks. I just saw Soundgarden live last week. Weird to think Chris would be gone the next week.

reminiscing2004 reacted to Pretsy in Chris Cornell (Soundgarden, Audioslave) has died
Whether you liked grunge or not (I know, very stigmatic scene in overall among most rock/metal listeners), you cannot argue that Chris Cornell was one of a kind among vocalists of the grunge generation - to the point where he may have impressed tons of older key music figures. I used to enjoy him among other grunge acts thru my active MTV digestion back in my adolescent heydays (gotta get this out of my chest because seriously, fuck any concept of "genre cred"), so even with long time span of no listens in my weeabooish comfort zone, this news still sucks hard to me tbqh. I normally do not give such comments for the sake of "oh some known musician X died, I must listen to them now" fad - I give them out due to these fleeting moments of my bittersweet nostalgia, and what may have defined my liking and approach later on. Weiland leaving us first, and now this...:(
RIP man.

reminiscing2004 reacted to ghost in MUCC new re-release albums "新痛絶 (Shin-Tsuuzetsu)" & "新葬ラ謳 (Shin-Homura Uta)"
I think this may be what is going on:
Tsuuzetsu
CD 1 Re-recording CD 2 Track-listing & mix from the 1st press of Tsuuzetsu (2001) Homura Uta
CD 1 Re-recording CD 2 Track-listing & mix from the 3rd press of Homura Uta (2004)
From the sounds of this description from Puresound, it sound like it's meant to be a release that compares the old Mucc and the current Mucc.
Japanese
Google English
When they say [DISC-2:Tsuuzetsu 1st] I'm positive they're referring to the 1st press of Tsuuzetsu, and when they say [DISC-2:Homura Uta -ReMASTER-] I think they're referring to the 3rd pressing of Homura Uta which was indeed remastered (slightly clearer dynamic range and punchier than the first press.) and included Suiso (which was not included in any other pressing of Homura Uta).
While I'm talking about Homura Uta, funny little tidbit about the different pressings is that the only aesthetic differences between the two is that the 3rd press has a giant black & white sticker on the back of the shrink wrap with different catalog number information, the CD matrix has a different catalog number to reflect the pressing, and there's an extra little insert with lyrics for Suiso. Everywhere else you'll see that the packaging and artwork is pulled straight from the first press down to the catalog number on the case and even the bonus CD.

reminiscing2004 got a reaction from qotka in MUCC new re-release albums "新痛絶 (Shin-Tsuuzetsu)" & "新葬ラ謳 (Shin-Homura Uta)"
Sooo confused trying to make sense of what the hell's going on here. Repress of the 1st edition of 痛絶 is pretty cool? and i guess im curious about a 痛絶 remaster, because I would say there is some potential to do a better post-processing job on it this time around.
However, I'm extremely suspicious that the remaster of 葬ラ謳 will show any improvement.... It's just a really great sounding album already. This is all intriguing news nonetheless, as a fan of pre-2005 ムック.

reminiscing2004 reacted to plastic_rainbow in Weekly lyric analysis
I really like this idea! Since I translate lyrics myself, I always like to see what others make of the lyrics, rather than just me making my own interpretations. I think this will help others gain interest in discussing more about them, even if only a little. But as @Zeus mentioned, having someone fluent in Japanese is essential for doing something like this as there's so much to discuss about how it's written in the original language before getting into the translation. But of course, that depends on how poetic the lyrics are. I think it's even better to have two people fluent in Japanese, or at least know a decent amount of Japanese, in analyzing lyrics just because there can be so many different interpretations. I think that'll help bring up interesting discussions.
I am honestly interested in starting up something like this, but am afraid that I can't offer too much time as I have so many other things currently going on in my life. Bi-weekly or monthly might be manageable though. Another thing is that I'm not SUPER fluent in Japanese (but i think i know a decent enough amount), which is why I think it's a good idea to have another person take part who's also knowledgeable in Japanese. Getting access to lyrics will certainly be an issue as not everybody will be interested in the lyrics I have in hand. And not everybody who DOES have access to them is willing to share them, etc. But we can still start somewhere with what we have.
Thinking more about this, I can also see how a lyric analysis can go hand in hand with a PV analysis, if the song has one, which might be really interesting as well~

I feel nobody cares lyrics
jpopasia has a really nice lyrics system but nobody communicates
I type some lyrics which not exist, but all visitors are japanese lol

In some unfortunate news, store updates will be on hiatus until further notice. Val got hit by an SUV yesterday and, while nothing is broken somehow, she is not able to work. We will still be having the auction in June, so look forward to that!
