Chuck Berry just died...
RIP, Inventor of Rock N' Roll. I hope you'll enjoy playing guitar up there with the gods, or wherever you end up
-
Does anyone know anything about Mad Face Records (Dezert's label)?
I can't find anything on them
-
Satsui by Dezert, but every time Chiaki says "Satsui", Furanfuran by Kuroyuri to Kage plays, but every time K slaps his bass, Dead End Kids by Inugami Circus Dan plays, but every time Kyouko trills an R, Shinagawa Shinjuu by Ningen Isu plays, but every time the Taishogoto is played, the whole thing repeats itself.
Wait, this would literally go on for infinity, because it would just keep repeating from the beginning

Turns out there are 2 Vkei bands named Sex Android. One is the well known Eroguro band, the other is a very short lived Deathrock band.
-
FWIW, the death rock Sex Android were pretty solid actually, from what I remember hearing from them on YT. Nothing exceptionally mind-blowing, but pretty solid. I was also surprised to find out that 'our' Sex-Android's first releases were in like the mid-to-late '90s (also afair they sounded a little more straightforwardly punk on those than on their later, more 'known' art pop material where things got mixed w/ other influences) and they had some power gap between that period and their art pop era

Yeah, Sex Android started out quite Punk. When their last guitarist, Toru, joined, they kind of took a more creative route, including some folk influence, surf rock influence, etc. They even have a full on Enka song (I think everyone remembers Kowenji, Na No Ne... though xD).
Upon further research (AKA I found someone in the know xD), the Death Rock Sex Android was apparently meant to just be a small project, which is sad because it sounded quite good. They probably would have gotten more popular if they continued on into the 90's, because the 90's saw a rise in Gothic genres for Japanese Rock. If they had continued Sex Android into that era, they would've gained a bigger fanbase, possibly among the Vkei scene because well, they do look Visual xD. It's like the project ended at such an inconvenient time.
But at least there is Phadia xD

I always wondered how Ningen Isu is able to make the Taishogoto (A type of Japanese harp from the 1920's with typewriter keys) sound so traditional. I mean, most Taishogoto pieces are normally Koto pieces, but they don't sound so traditional, unless they decide to attach Nylon strings (which is occaisonally done). IDK, it all just may be in my head. I think more bands in general should use the Taishogoto if they want to experiment with a traditional sound, since it's quite easy to play.
-
Ningen Isu is more than just a band, it's an experience.
You feel like you've been transported to this psychedelic world, where everything is full of sabbathy riffs, and everything sort of doesn't make sense, but feels right.
Then the vocals come in, and you feel like you've been transported back to the Meiji-Taisho period, with Kabuki like vocals. Everything around you is like a psychedelic Ukiyo-we woodblock print.
And no, I did not smoke anything before listening to them xD -
I wonder if there are Vkei weebs who are like "I learned French from looking at names of KoteKei bands, and listening to Versilles!" xD
-
Well, there are tons of weebs going "I learned Japanese from watching anime!"

Anyone know what kind of guitar Takemasa Kujou uses? I know it's an ESP guitar, but it looks like a cross between an ESP Stream, and an Ibanez Iceman
-
I just realised it's Kisaki's birthday.
Happy Birthday, Kisaki. Even though you're not well respected among the Vkei community, and you can be a bit arrogant at times, I'm gonna be that one guy who still celebrates because I loved Phatasmagoria
-
KISAKI deserves an extra 2 birthday cakes this year specifically FOR that Tanuki mess a while ago. Here's to another year of the same makeup **

I'm still thoroughly confused by the whole Kiyoharu and Kuroyume mess. Like, how did Kiyoharu own the rights to Kuroyume in the first place? Doesn't Avex take tight control of their bands?
Then again, Kuroyume got away with anti-pop songs, so maybe Kiyohar was able to negotiate things where he'd own the rights to Kuroyume when they signed to Avex?
-
Yeah it's all down to contract, Kuroyume as an act had been popular for almost a decade at the point of signing with AVEX. The label also took over all of his solo stuff and SADS work too, so to them Kiyoharu is what you call a "life-r" (someone who remains with the company even when doing different acts and projects) He's someone respected enough on the scene and in the business that it's not unwise to leave him with creative control and save a fortune on his contract by not insisting on buying his name(s) (something that he could just refuse and look for a less tight-fisted company.
this is a guess
Idk shit about the music industry, everything I know about contracting and promotional rights is from profashional rassling.

So Kyo was once featured in a Vasalla Song:
-
I remember Sin was in Syndrome too, wasn't he? I know Ruiza was.
Hopefully the vocalist is still into music and doesn't mind coming back for one more collab. And I think Kyo secretly wants to go back to doing 90's style Vkei, since a lot of Sukekiyo's stuff has that 90's Vkei gothic rock influence. Also, there are some pics of modern Kyo wearing 90's makeup, and he still looks good in it. In fact, I can sort of feel as if he likes wearing it still
-
Yeah I think only Kisaki wasn't in D haha
Hmm their singer Hideki re-recorded some songs on their 2010 ep Rise of Insanity, did you check it that out? I think he still sings okay. ^^ Wow I never thought Kyo would go back to vk looks. I remember when his pics were of he shirtless with sunglasses and without any makeup lol When i saw that I thought dir en grey started to hate vk and would never go back to their roots -
I'll have to check out that EP~
Also, I think the only reason why Dir En Grey said they weren't Vkei was because they were trying to expand onto an American audience, which expects masculinity and Brootality. I think that's why Kyo formed Sukekiyo, so he can live out the old days. I mean, his first idol was Kiyoharu from Kuroyume, which we all know Kuroyume for their mix of Alt. Metal, Thrash Metal and Gothic Rock.
I think Dir En Grey's transition into Nu Metal in the 2000's though was natural, since Nu Metal is a derivative of Alternative Metal. Hence why it still felt natural. The Deathcore stuff... felt unnatural. And the fact it's progressive means that it's kind of a dead end, because now people expect brootality and shredding.
I wonder what would happen if Kisaki stayed in Diru. Would they be as big as they are today? Would they still be Vkei? What would they sound like?
I guess that's why I loved Phantasmagoria. They were like the prog version of a Kote-Kei band xD. I notice a lot of former 90's Vkei musicians tend to kind of keep the old elements in their new bands, like Kon did for Cell. Even though Cell was Metalcore, it still felt 90's-ish

Can someone explain the huge mess that Kiyoharu got into last year that ended up in the Japanese government selling the rights to Kuroyume?
There is barely any news on it that I can find

So I found out something interesting. Kuroyuri to Kage and Dezert are connected. I'm serious. So Mei used to sing for this band called Rose Valley. Rose Valley''s guitarist used to play support for Yukilein, which is both Koyomi's and Chiaki's old band. I know that Kuro and K used to play for a band called Ice Cream. Anyone got any info on them?
-
http://id55.fm-p.jp/249/yukiline4/
@SadMoomin I found Yukilein's official website! Turns out, they're actually called Yukiline xD.
Also, apparently, they had a discography?
The discography page doesn't seem to have anything on it. I guess they planned to make releases, but never did
-
Hahaha I actually love this, like doing the Kevin Bacon game with bandmen XD

Otsuka Headlock by DEZERT is so catchy. I gets me in weird mood where I want to both headbang, and dance.
Dancing to Metal should be a legitimate thing. If Hardcore Punk has hardcore dancing, who says I can groove out to something metal? xD
Well, we already kind of have that thing in Vkei, if you count the small dances Kyo from Dir En Grey used to do for the song Myaku, or Karma from AvelCain does to Gesshoku
-
it's one of my favorites of theirs!!

There are Vkei bands named D, S, and M. Now all we need is one named B and we'd have a fetish on our hands

I've been kind of wanting to get into Dezert. Can anyone recommend any songs?
-
@Original SakuOoh~ Thanks!
It's weird how I'm now just getting into Dezert, since they share a common fanbase with Kuroyuri To Kage (and I can see why~) and I'm a huge Kuroyuri Fan as all of MH knows xD

Since there is a vocaloid based on GackT, I wonder what a vocaloid based on Mana would be like. OH WAIT.
I know what it'd sound like: *Silence*

Cube by JyuLie be giving off those old school (Like 1970's) Metal vibes. Especially with that bluesy solo

Has anyone heard from Caligari recently? How are my precious corpse paint Eroguro beans doing?
I literally haven't heard anything from them recently, which is sad because I used to hear from them way more often.

They've just announced a new album!

I just found "High Collar Ondo" by Memento Mori on iTunes. Literally, it's the only song they have on there. But, who makes the money off of it? Memento Mori is technically disbanded, and as far as I know, AKA-On records is closed. I mean, the members of Kuroyuri could still make money off of it, and there is a possibility AKA-On records could still technically exist? I mean, their website is still up. Though, most links on the site are to a dead end, and the section for Raddock isn't even clickable
