Man, tumblr-DEG is in uproar about the non-venue "stalker" photos and taking photos at the band's concerts...

Why do people get so radically invested in this band (or bands in general)? They're just some dudes who play music.

There are some really creepy DEG fans on Tumblr that write paragraphs long descriptions of “omg Toshiya-kun made eye contact with me!!!1 I LiVE 4 this Feeling! I’m gonna buy extra merch just 4 u!” and whatnot so it’s pretty ironic. I shit you not this one girl baked a birthday cake for Toshiya and then ate it without him because obviously he doesn’t even know who she is. It was legitimately depressing.

  2. Aoi Tsuki is great especially because it’s one of the few songs they have with an odd time signature. Berry is weird because the chorus and verses sound like they belong to completely different songs. A lot of their older songs had this issue but this is one of the worst cases. Decayed Crow is a BANGER. A downright BOP I’ll tell you what. R to the Core’s intro is great but Kyo’s voice is really obnoxious to the point where it sounds like a joke song. The mode of Kisou version of Foocha was a lot better than the album version. I love the ending of Pink Killer but that song and the rest of Kisou have some of Kyo’s worst most edgelord lyrics. Oh yeah and Audrey is pretty boring. That shitty twangy intro is such a buzzkill after the epicness of Macabre.

they completely destroy it by going full autism on tracks like Downfall or Rubbish Heap.

    Full... autism?

  4. A lot of people act like Kaoru’s guitar playing is nothing but hurr durr chugalug brocore riffs but a lot of it is surprisingly clever like that. I do wish he’d done more with the main riff in Downfall though, I like that song a lot but that main riff is way too repetitive.

  5. I was finally getting used to the production on the new album and then I went back to DSS and remembered what good production sounds like. The vocal distortion on Rubbish Heap physically hurts my ears.

  6. I like how the Japanese merch has an English logo and the Western merch has a Japanese logo lol. Although most Japanese people think Japanese writing on clothes in uncool so it makes sense (they prefer English or French and think it’s fashionable for some reason even if it’s grammatically incorrect to the point of being completely nonsensical). It’s funny how many American/European bands don’t realize this and make a bunch of merch with Japanese logos when they tour in Japan.

  7. I think it’s about his mental/emotional state and walling himself off from people. The term 絶縁体 means insulator but the word 絶縁 can mean to cut yourself off from friends and family.

  8. My gf listens to Justin Bieber, Avril Lavigne and Backstreet Boys lmao. She at least liked Ranunculus off of this album. A lot of my other Japanese friends listen to K-pop or J-rock like Bump of Chicken or something. I have one friend that just listens to vocaloid and anime theme songs and sings them at karaoke. I scared her by singing Different Sense :3

  9. I went to school for two years in Japan but I actually never got around to seeing them lol. My Japanese friends all like normal people music :( Hopefully they will be touring when I go back next year.

  10. It’s funny to me that they were able to have a nearly 10 minute long Vinushka video yet Utafumi is only 3:11 and they still had to cut out 18 seconds.

  11. Lately they can’t even make a PV for a normal length song without cutting parts out of it so somehow I doubt we’ll be getting a 絶縁体 video (and if we do it’ll be butchered). I really hate the radio edit videos they’ve been doing lately (I realize it’s most likely the label’s decision). The album version of Sustain the Untruth is already pretty boring, but the radio edit is complete trash.

  12. I think some people are confusing fans’ interpretations of interviews (that post from earlier today) with direct quotes from the band. That was an analysis a fan made based on a bunch of different sources plus the author’s own feelings on the record, not any single interview. Also Kaoru didn’t say it would sound like Marrow, again that was the takeaway from interviews and pre-release reviews saying it would be simpler and rawer and more aggressive.

  13. I honestly think the exhausting wall of nonsensical screaming noise is the whole point of the first half of the album. It’s basically a concept album about Kyo’s mental state and that’s why it ends with the most hopeful song musically and lyrically. At least that’s how I’ve interpreted it since he said in an interview that the order was deliberate.

I agree about the production though.

  14. I actually think he looked really good in the more recent sukekiyo videos (En and Hidauta) but then he decided to look bizarre again starting with the Ningen video and culminating in whatever the hell it is he’s doing now.
