Die uses three guitars just to play Macabre. He don’t give no fucks.
-
Putting Die’s “flicka flicka” guitar up front in the DSS version of Hageshisa was ace. Everything else was ass. And I hate that the album version of Lotus doesn’t end with the heavy THUMP of the floor tom.
-
A good mix would be beneficial as well, and hopefully they’ve learned something from the remastering on Vestige. Arche’s major problem was that even the ballads sounded heavy because of the production style. I really think songs like Tousei, Kaishun, and Kukoku no Kyouon would have been a lot more effective had there been any dynamics there.
-
Macabre being a bonus disc track is bullshit though.
-
The Kiri to Mayu remake is my favorite of ALL the remakes. I love that the original parts are mostly all still there.
-
It’s been a while, but I mostly remember Kyo’s voice completely cracking under the high notes in Lotus. I haven’t watched that DVD since it came out, so I need to check it out again.
-
Wasn’t the Rinkaku DVD the one where Kyo’s voice was completely shredded?
-
The worst part is that the harsh vocals in the chorus of Garbage (the “ladies and gentleman” part) was a backing track.
-
It is. This was when he had the least control and would run out of breath and couldn’t sing a complete line of lyrics.
-
I guess that makes sense, but it wasn’t that far away from Uroboros either.
-
Wait, looking at the track list... why is Dozing Green lumped in with the MOAB tracks?
-
Maybe because the It Withers and Withers DVD was so boring.
-
That’s exactly the problem. They sat in the studio writing parts and sending them to each other via email and whatnot. I don’t think they actually rehearsed the material as a band until it came time to tour, and by then it was too late. It was just, “oh shit we overdid it and we can’t recreate this sound live.”
-
They handle Utafumi live better than a majority of the DSS material.
-
It doesn’t matter how they were recorded, they let those vocals remain as is and that’s a problem. Fuck, listening to it again, Kaoru’s guitar sounds off in that part too. This shit was intentional!
-
Best part of Beautiful Dirt was Kyo’s HA HA at the end and he doesn’t even do that in the new one. Best parts of new IIID Empire: that thing Toshiya does in the middle break, the weird skronky thing Kaoru does around 2:24. Absolute worst thing about new IIID Empire: Kyo spankin’ and spankin’, also GOOGLY EYE GOOGLY EYE GOOGLE EYE
-
Why do you keep saying two songs? Am I missing the joke? only song that’s really different is Fukai, and we’ve pretty much heard that version before. It’s all half-assed whatever it is.
-
Technically they didn’t remake anything, they just re-recorded those three songs. I don’t think they were looking to do drastic changes considering this is a best of compilation and all.
-
Utafumi was a better Beautiful Dirt re-recording.
-
Yuck

I mentioned Opeth because they’re last three albums are analog recordings. They sound very natural and there are actual dynamics, which is how I wish DEG could sound instead of sounding more and more like a giant wall of noise with a MIDI drum kit behind it.
-
You know damn well the fans voted for Garden, but DEG was like “LOL”
-
My hope is Kaoru will at some point hear the last three Opeth albums and be like “hey, I can hear the stuff! I want people to hear the stuff too!”
-
I mean, to be fair, Kyo has been singing Fukai this way since, what, the Vulgarism tour? It’s not new at this point, just finally committed to a studio version.

Selling Adoratio exclusively on their online store doesn’t make much sense either. But I think collectible stuff like this is cool.
