Nope, it’s been a universal thing for at least 20 years. I was hoping it was a trend that would have ended by now.

Compression will be the death of me. Why these dudes keep insisting on cramming everything together into a sonic fuck fest is beyond me. They sit back and listen to the final mix and go “shit yeah this is dope, send it out”
  3. Saishu

There are always a few tracks that hold true to that statement.

Love that Shinya hated Marrow. He seems like the most stubborn of the five, so I can see him rolling his eyes thru the entire recording session. Fukai is fine, I like the added touches throughout because the original was a bit on the repetitive side. Production blows. When is Shinya going to get a decent drum tone?
  5. Saishu

Well yeah, but I’m saying it would cost that much because it’s 3 discs of content. iTunes won’t treat it like one album and sell it for $10.
  6. Saishu

It’ll end up costing like $30 anyway, which is bullshit for a digital release. Unless you’re just going to download certain songs, but at $1.29 a pop that’s expensive as well.
  7. Saishu

If it does end up on iTunes it’ll probably be on Friday.
  8. Saishu

I have to agree the symphonic versions are cheesy because it’s all synthesizer bullshit. I want them to record something with a proper orchestra.
  9. Saishu

It didn’t? Are you reading 獣慾 as “rinkaku”? Because that’s “juuyoku”. oh never mind, I see it now haha

Best thing about the new version of Karasu is Toshiya threw in some of those wacky bass noises he had been doing live all along. Also, yes, please rework Zakuro. I haven’t been able to listen to it the same way ever since Nega “covered” it.
  11. Saishu

    No, it was pot.

Before the Uroboros remaster came out, I replaced the English language versions of Dozing Green and Glass Skin with the original single versions.
  13. Saishu

I wouldn’t want all the tracks re-recorded, I just wish they had went with better choices. I’m fine with Fukai, but the other two are unnecessary. Why not a studio version of that tighter, less boring version of Mazohyst? Why not re-record Saku so it doesn’t sound like mush?

My copy of Vestige has shipped!
  15. Saishu

Doesn’t sound like wordplay at all, just goofy.
  16. Saishu

Should have just called it Adoor.

The Kiri to Mayu remake was really fun to me, because I loved how almost everything from the original version is still in there. It took a few listens before I “got it”, but it ended up being probably my favorite out of all the remakes. Shout out to Tsumi to Batsu as well, though the “PEDOPHILIA” gang vocal in the chorus is a bit much. I expect more subtlety than that from Kyo.
  18. Saishu

I don’t remember that one. Is it basically like it was performed on Uroboros - with the proof in the name of living - which was more or less the Vulgar version at a faster tempo? That’s the version I like.

What was edited on the Decade comps? Only thing that stands out to me is they used the single versions of Embryo and Child Prey, and Jealous -reverse- was a cool bonus. The remastering wasn’t that great, more like “let’s jack the volume up so these won’t sound like (complete) shit when you compress them into MP3 files for your iPod!” Decade also had weird choices like, most of the Marrow tracks they went with. And still no Garden, lol.
  20. Saishu

Something about the Decade releases is very bootleg-y to me, right down to the awful artwork. I’m hoping the remastering in Vestige is decent, but I’m not holding out hope. So if anything I’m excited to have a best collection that seems a bit more focused and professional.

Dead Tree was always kind of boring to me, and the chorus sounds like a creepier version of Kasumi, which is another song I’m not a big fan of. But for me, if you’re going to write a song in 6/8, you need to do more than rely on the “rocking on a boat” rhythm to get my attention.
  22. Saishu

Ain’t afraid to die is on the Decade compilation. That’s about all you’re going to get.
  23. Saishu

It’s a tough listen these days, yeah. It’s got some of my favorite DEG songs on there, but I rarely listen to it in its entirety anymore. As far as “classic” DEG goes, Macabre is the winner for me.

There was a period of time where I considered Kisou the holy grail of DEG recordings, but then one day it came across as too bloated. And as much as I criticize DEG’s production in recent albums, Kisou might be the absolute worst. Listening to it feels like chewing on tin foil. Songs like Zomboid and Pink Killer are such are garbled mess of static it’s hard to believe the guitars are actually playing notes.

Unplugged version of AsoM sounds like Kyo was inside the piano screaming while someone played it. That thump at the end is Kyo crawling out and slamming the lid closed.
