I literally would have never stumbled across visual kei without access to illegally downloaded music in the 2000s. Since then, it's prompted me to buy the albums, DVDs, magazines, posters – You name it, of the bands I truly love. I've gone so far as to take trips around the world to various venues to see the bands I admire play in a live setting. In short, what led to a few stolen tracks in the beginning led to some eventual money (and full discographies) of the bands I support. The ones I don't like end up getting deleted sooner or later anyway.
Us in the west and Europe simply don't have access to Japanese music the way those in Japan do. It would take an awful lot of convincing for me to shell out more than $20 on a CD for an unknown indie band if I hadn't a clue what they sounded like, never mind the exorbitant shipping costs on top of it. There would have to be some pretty reputable names attached to them for me to do something like that.
This whole topic brings to mind the VK reselling scene. Stores like Closet Child, Pure Sound, etc. – You've got to wonder what the difference would be between paying a distributor for a used CD (of which I assume no money goes to the artist) and downloading an mp3 would be? In the end, it would generate a similar level of exposure, no? -
Ah, this is great – I love Ryu's typography. Can't wait for this week!

I'm not the biggest An Cafe fan, but it always makes me warm inside seeing that they've released something new : 3

Omg Ryuutarou looks too cool – I think hearing Gentou Kikai and monophobia seals my decision for me.

They look cool, but that production value ...

Love the whole black and white aesthetic of this album and the preceding singles.
Hoping there's at least one nice shoegazy-whopper on this one!

Oh wow, did not expect to see any PIERROT songs on there. Was that common when we first went solo?

Heidi's two first albums will forever and ever be among my favourite "jrock/visual kei" albums, and while I do not consider Kasou their best release, it's still a fantastic album full of great, superbly produced songs with a band who, without really doing anything new or original, found their own identity and managed to really sounds different in a scene where most bands and artists seems to be allergic of treading their own paths for the last decade+. Don't expect anything unusual or original, but Nao's way of riffing, Heidi's way of putting fantastic tracks together and the whole chemestry between the members really makes them stand out from the crowd. Another thing I will give Heidi, which I always felt the majority of "jrock/visual kei" artists failed at was to make an album where all songs seems to fit into the same album, and they all seem to have been written with a purpose of making a full album and keep a red thread going through all the tracks for an entire album. That is something I feel like too many bands fail to do in these scenes.
They would get even better and reach their full potential with their next album tho.
Absolutely, heidi. cannot be ignored for their output and offering something original at these time (Even if Kasou and Innocence came out in 06 and 08') They were just as genre-defining as girugamesh and D'espairsRay were in their own right ; )
Seeing RES, D'espa, giru and BIS on this list makes me feel old, cranky and sad. I'm so stuck in nostalgia it's unforgivable. It's good to know at least 1/3 of these bands are still kicking though. I don't think Pura will ever die at this rate (and that's a god thing)

I'm kind of lowkey hoping they will remake some of the more obscure / neglected Shuuji 1 tracks like Karasu or something like that, but I know that's a pretty unlikely scenario lol
(also hoping this isn't just gonna turn out to be a compilation of those re-recorded songs they released as live dist. singles....)
My thoughts exactly. 1 was so gross, the only listenable song for my was Siren. I LOVED 2 though, lots of memorable tracks there.
I'm deciding to be cautiously optimistic about this 8 ) -
Sweet! Really curious what a full JILUKA album's gonna be like.

Is it common for bands to release set lists before a show? Never heard of that before

Looks like everyone agrees about this terrible name choice LOL
Other than that – I am super excited to see this band materialize. Bring it on! -

Apparently I'm a little late to the party, haha. Dang!

That's disappointing

Is this like, the old Undercode Dali?
-
I'm late to this, but about time we get some good news in this scene, seriously.
Hiatus, hiatus, disband, hiatus, disband, musical differences – Good on ya, lynch.! -
-
Sweet! Figured this would be coming in the first quarter of the year.
I'm going to have a hard time deciding between versions (Defs can't afford both at that price )
-
NOOOOOO D:
I'm not up to date on anything, so I didn't see this coming. Shit! -
Oh, this is sweet! I loved all his old solo works.
My bet is on completely original material, with some possible infrequent Angelo covers as B-sides on some singles or something.
-
This band is like Angelo to me. Well known scene veterans, but with incredibly boring compositions.
Everything sounds good by itself and you can't deny these guys are talented, but it's just so unmemorable.
