I don't get what's so great about brutal bands.

I find myself not liking the more "popular" (or what seems "popular" anyway) visual kei bands.
I don't like Dir en grey, Gazette, A9, Antic Cafe, lynch, Versailles, Hizaki, Kamijo, Mejibray, Kiryu, etc.  

Lynch and Gazette are boring me to death.

Seeing this kinda made me realize how much I don't appreciate the sixth and seventh waves as much as everything that came before. I just think that's when things started getting really homogenized and it's not that I don't still enjoy a good number of bands, but I don't find them as irreplaceable. Maybe I got used to so many bands breaking up and I'm jaded or there just isn't as much variation in musical styles as there used to be. Probably both. Things change, so I'm not really bitter, and a lot of the older bands are still releasing music so I can't complain. It's just seeing it all laid out like this made it pretty clear where I'm at these days. 

Second to fourth for sure. Basically mid 90's until mid 00's.

come on 4th wave we got tosinn, deadman, emmuree, kagerou, rentrer en soi, gullet, d'espairsray, merry go round, goth malice mizer
but mid 5th wave was flawless tho

* Kaoru has plastic surgery to change his entire hand into a giant guitar pick

- The GazettE will release a 30 second teaser with no music foreshadowing a mysterious announcement for mid-2018.
- Dir en grey will disband after Kaoru is diagnosed with a form of reactive arthritis that prevents him from playing guitar, thus losing the main composition inspiration for the band in its current era; Kyo will stay in sukekiyo; Die - Decays; Toshiya will start a clothing line; Shinya will fade into the distance
- Akane from D.I.D, shocking the VK World, will commit suicide.
- Dadaroma will release a follow up EP that is mediocre and mostly compiled pre-released A-Sides
- lynch. will release an EP, after taking some time to resolve the Akinori situation,  a month after they announce their new support bassit in Q3 2017, and it will be solid.
- Ryo will will front a new band with Nii, Katsuya (Ex-CodeRebirth -> Misanthropist) and support members and it will be the most hype of 2017
 
Some of these sound very depressing, but I genuinely think they will happen.
 

inb4 jouren exposes band for forcing them each to buy 20 tickets each just so they could have a chance of selling out area meanwhile only 5 rows actually show up

This release would be way cooler if they covered each other, but just a compilation feels very meh.

yea 30 seconds to mars is what I thought about too. Too bad I find 30 seconds to mars horribly boring D:
 
I don't think this new direction is all because of the label. These guys have been doing the same thing for a while now and it's only natural to want something new. Hopefully the results are good and all... (personally not too convinced yet)

I've been thinking a bit about how this reminds me heavily of Girugamesh...

But, at least with Giru, the sound they were going for was just a super light Giru, whereas this...
These songs really love to oversell themselves, they go for that vast "epic" sort of stadium song feel without anything to back it up, at all. It's empty, shallow and heartless, like it was written by someone else for them, like 90% of modern major pop acts. There's no energy to it, there's no emotion, it's just generic. It's not compelling, it's just slightly nodding whilst I'm doing anything else that's far more interesting.
 
I find it funny that the American label that signed them also produces a lot of similar bands that suffer from similar issues. I'm happy for them if this is their thing, it's not often we see a band of a language other than English make it into the market but at the same time it really sucks because of what they had to give up in order to do so, to be successful you have to tick boxes, the more you appeal to the masses you appeal less to the individual. It's easy to make something that thousands will like but harder to make something that hundreds will love and I suppose at the end of the day you need to ask yourself which matters more.

The classic case of "not the worst song in the world, but sure is forgettable as shit". This is true for this whole ambitions samples so far

Uhrgg. It's one of my biggest pet peeves when bands release different versions of the same album in different countries. Especially when the album isn't all that special.

I'm pretty sure that Ambitions will make 35xxxv seem like a masterpiece. I still will be checking out the album for the sake of it.

I don't mind so much the idea of being straight with fans, transparency is something to be treasured, unfortunately.
It's all in how you go about it, being honest with the fact you can't continue as a band without money is fine, it's legitimate and an acceptable premise.

The stuff they put out when they were just about to / just after signing to Starwave were A+ (remember when they gave out free songs via email????), but more recent material is just uninteresting.
