    A big part of it is that I'm half Chinese and I grew up in two cities where there weren't really a lot of Asian people around, I suppose. Growing up, there were almost no Asian bands or artists on TV. There was like LOUDNESS on VH1 sometimes and the guy from Linkin Park, and that was it. I mean, I'm exaggerating a bit, but those are literally the only two examples I remember.

     

    I was really into hair metal/glam rock, etc. as a teenager, and I was so excited when I saw that there was a whole genre that Asian people made that took influence from that style of music. That's a big part of it.

     

    I'm also just kind of an introverted weirdo and an emo kid at heart, so the really over the top emotional side and quirkiness of it is also appealing. 🤣

    SKY-HI uploaded the vlog from the stream he did in March. Thought it was just going to be like five minutes of digest footage, but he actually posted a pretty thorough 25-minute summary of it.

     

    ETA: Jesus, that performance of Snatchaway at 22:13 is great. He really brings that encore energy.

    I watched the episode of "Otaku in tha Hood" with Shaka Bose recently. The series is kind of like MTV Cribs for Japanese rappers, but a lot of the artists they cover are not very well known, so their homes aren't very impressive.

     

    Shaka Bose's is kind of interesting because he shares a home with a bunch of other musicians that he collabs with. Their individual rooms just basically look like tiny student dorms, but it's kind of cute.

    Listening to an interview with Tohji. Didn't realize his English was so good - I thought he'd just memorized a few lines to say onstage or something. I mean, he seems a bit limited vocabulary-wise, but he's very easy to understand.

    folca did a studio live to make up for a set at MASTER PEACE’20前夜祭. It will be available on YouTube temporarily, although they didn't specify for how long. Wish the audio was a bit better for the vocals. Hide has a great voice, and this doesn't really do it justice.

    Yeah, I love Shuma, but he definitely got both the joke animal and the worst name. The costume from the first promo pic wasn't as bad, but it also just looked like he put a stuffed animal down his pants...

    Plus you can't see it from the front, so it looks like there's a bunch of dudes in animal ears and just Shuma randomly standing there.

     

    "Natsume Tsuna" is also pretty funny though. (the joke is that Kousuke named him that just so if you write it forwards or backwards in hiragana it still spells "natsume tsuna" なつめつな )

    Bands do this all the time though?  Might not be quite as common in VK, I guess, but tons of J-rock bands I follow get their friends to comment whenever they put out a new release and want to try to reach as many people as possible.
