How is it this cold in May?

I have a very mellow family, and my mom and sister both listen mainly to rock music too, so they deal with it as well as can be expected. I know they don't really love VK music, for the most part, but they're kind of intrigued by the costumes and theatrics.
My mom is a David Bowie fan and she has a vague interest in artists like Marilyn Manson, so it's not exactly shocking to her. She'd walk into my room when I was watching L'Arc and BUCK-TICK concert DVDs and linger for a bit to watch what was going on, ask me questions, etc. My sister likes even more ridiculous music than I do, so she can't really judge either.

Canada is quite lucky! I hear both mothercoat and OWARIKARA are fantastic live bands. otori, PENs+, and Atlantis Airport are still fairly young bands as far as I know, but I trust Steve's taste in music/live music, so I'm sure they will be worth it too.
For sure, the bands he chooses are usually way more interesting live than the Youtube videos on the site make them seem, so I'm definitely still expecting a great show from all of them.

Is anyone else going to catch NMFT7? I'm going to the first Toronto show.
I'm not super excited about the line-up from the samples I've heard so far, but I wasn't any of the other years I went and I always ended up really enjoying at least one of the bands. Plus it's only $10, so I can drag my friends along without feeling like a jerk.

During X JAPAN's prime-time, the term "Visual Kei" was not even an issue yet. They co-existed with formations in hair-and glam metal, or speed-and thrash metal. X JAPAN was a concoction of all with all of their records having a different sound, and during the 80's there was a relatively large portion of bands who did indeed fit this bill as well. Think W.A.S.P., certain Mötley Crüe records, Lizzy Borden, Skid Row's "Slave To The Grind", WRATHCHILD, you name it. These were "hair band" formations with a metal sound, and just like Visual Kei, the term "hair metal" came in a wide range as it merely pointed out the visuals. Now, they weren't Testament or Exodus, but you get the big picture. If you really desire to step into the bubbly side of glam, go and try Queeny Blast Pop, Peppermint Creeps or Stars From Mars to name a beginning — it's an exaggerated fissure between the genres, but I think in this case it's easier to distinguish.
^Oh no, I thought my days of hearing the names Queeny Blast Pop and Peppermint Creeps were over when I stopped posting on hair metal forums.
Now you just need to talk about how Warrant's Dog Eat Dog album is a lost masterpiece and it'll feel just like home.

Not sure if they're actually homophobic as I haven't translated it but DK had songs like "ホモダチの輪" and I can't help but feel like referring to a gay friend as "homodachi" is somehow slighted.
I'm amazed that that comes up in my Rikaichan dictionary. Is that actually a term that people use regularly in Japan? It does seem pretty rude.

I like how people are actually taking this seriously despite the fact that there's a very comic-looking, almost April Fools-worthy and out-of-place (at least according to (non-existing) nordic vk standards) mustachio member (unless Yohio is legitly really desperate for some sweet vk relevance - guess Nippon music business voyage didn't work out well?)...I am siding with ryuujii's statement

^I don't mind HaKU going more pop, but I'm not crazy about Haruna singing lead. I think Tsujimura's voice is way more interesting. Hope it's just for the one song.

I like both. I do listen to way more male vocals, but I think that's mostly because a lot of the genres I like are dominated by men.
