Okay, enough of this already. This discussion is going nowhere.
 
 
1. The fact that legit rips can be mistaken for transcodes has been covered in the Transcode FAQ. ("Many people use a programme called Spek to analyze the spectograph of the file. This can give you some valuable insights, but it's by no means 100% conclusive. I could show you several Spek images of files I ripped from original CDs according to our guidelines, that could be easily mistaken for transcodes, if you only look at the spectographs.") That's just a technical limitation we have to live with.
 
 
2. There are 2 kinds of people: those who don't care if something is a transcode and those that do. The latter one will also not want to download a bad rip. By labeling something as "Transcode" this group of people know what to avoid. If it helps anything we can use the label "Low Quality" for both transcodes AND bad rips. But seriously, you are fighting about semantics here.
 
 
3. If you want to avoid making bad rips, we have guidelines here to help you. If you upload stuff that isn't your own rip, check the quality first. If things look fishy, just say so in the description or attach a Spek image, and you won't get any trouble. We don't want to overly restrict uploading, but we want that people know what to expect when downloading something.
 
 
4. When you find a upload that looks like a transcode OR a bad rip and it doesn't say so in the description, feel free to report it.
 
 
@ Magatsu: quit the whining. You are just being butthurt because a mod labeled your upload as transcode when it actually was a bad rip. It doesn't matter. If someone doesn't want to download a transcode, they certainly don't want to download a bad rip either. Those who don't mind transcodes won't mind bad rips either. Do you own the CD? Rip it again according to our guidelines. You don't? Check files you get from other sources and upload them with appropriate description. It's not rocket science.
 
 
Seriously, a few months ago people were whining that we didn't do enough against low quality files, now that we try to do more, it's still not okay. *facepalm*

And the answer is simply: YES, everything with LQ = Transcode, including the WMP rips etc.

Again, this sounds like a good idea to me. I've always been quite unsettled by how friendly the DL section is to anonymous phantom users.
 
At the same time Zess and 237Q have made good points about forcing people to thank just to download and the potential spam. Perhaps we can make a similar button to reveal the DL link when clicked (separate from the thanks button), and have the users who have clicked it logged in a list. This neither interferes with the whole thanks/reputation business (which isn't particularly important to me, but obviously does mean a lot to some), nor does it bump the entire thread to the 1st page when someone downloads an old file. I haven't made up my mind whether it's a good idea to disclose the list of users (e.g. append it to the first post) or keep it hidden and accessible only to the staff. If we go for the former, this button can serve a nice "post for link" function without all the hassle of spam control, bumping old threads, etc.
 
Anyway that's just an idea I have that may or may not be feasible.

1. I have added the "Respect the uploaders wishes"-rule to the official Download Rules and also added is as declaimer in the description of the DL forum. It has replaced the "use your own link" rule, since uploaders may or may not want that in the first place.
 
 
2. I have looked into possible anti-leech plugins for our forum software. I found this one so far. The cost would be 25$. Since Kai is already paying enough for the hosting of the site, I would probably have to pay it. It gives uploaders the option to hide their links until a user replies to the thread. Sadly there is no integration for the "Like" function so far, so it would be a source of a lot of spam. It would also put those uploaders at a disadvantage that choose to not hide their links (I for example wouldn't, I prefer comments given out of gratutide rather than force), since their topics don't get bumped up every time someone wants to download. Maybe there's a 3rd party mod for this plugin to make it work with the "like" button, I will keep looking. But for now it would just be a lot of spam and a lot of money for very little gain, so.... yeah. It's not stopping reposts, and those people that are too lazy to reply will just download from blogspots anyway.
 
 
3. Since all people with less than 5 posts are put in the "n00b" group, we could every now and then send a mass-pm to all members of this group (maybe every 6 months or so), inviting them to introduce themselves and be more active in the forum. I reckon that many n00b accounts are dead/unused anyway, but maybe a few will come out of lurking after all. As I said, we don't want to "hunt" away leechers, we want them to be active.

This is an age old problem and has always been the case here. There's really nothing to do, if we implement a post requirement the lurkers and leechers would just spam to acquire the "golden ticket" and then go back into the shadows... thus i would rather not do that. At the end of the day you upload with the knowledge that shit like this is gonna happen no matter what. Either upload or not it's your decision, shit getting re-posted at crappy blog sites without permission or credit is gonna happen no matter what even if we did try to put something into action. At the end of the day you have to ask yourself a question; Do I upload for the gratitude and self-serving feeling I receive from the act of uploading music or do I upload to spread the love and joys of music regardless of how much "thanks" or "credit" i get in return.
 
For me it's the latter. I don't give a rat's ass about "thanks" or "credit" if people want to re-post my shit, then you know what? I say let them.. What do I care? In fact that makes me happy that in the end more people will be able to listen to the music I think is wonderful. If your opinion aligns with the former then you should probably just go ahead and hang it up because you will never get the "thanks" or "credit" that you want, and your stuff will inevitably always be re-posted without even a smidgen of credit.
 
I however do agree with you on the whole re-posting links ordeal, that shit needs to die. If somebody has the gall to re-post your stuff without credit they should at least re-upload to a different file server instead of hot linking the same link.. not just because that's totally dis-respectful to the original uploader who's account is likely to be shutdown but also the fact that they are not helping the internet out at all by doing so. I mean what happens when that 's the only link for that album on the entire web? and then said link gets taken down... It's gone forever until somebody else comes around and rips/uploads the album again, that shit is not productive and overall hurts us more than it helps us.

Lately as im checking the site , looking at active and inactive members , the times a file gets downloaded and how many posts/likes there are i starting to see that the forum is starting to turn in to a leecher base . There is so many users that registered over half a year ago , that check almost each post frequently but have 0 posts . Most of sites that have downloads have some regulations , like having at least 10 posts or more to get to the download section , or virtual money where you can buy downloads . I think it might be worth to at least think that idea through as MH EXCLUSIVE was abandoned and some ppl like me who work hard as hell and can afford only 1-2 albums every 2 months , dont want their uploads being stole and reposted on some stupid crappy blog of some ungrateful kiddo .
A quick example , one of my recent posted albums Salty Dog - Goodnight, Cruel World EP , was already downloaded 289 times , HOW? , the number of views is a little over 50 and it was posted yesterday . I already found it reposted on 2 crappy blogs without my premission , without any credits to me or at least this forum . I know that bloacking off users who only leech from this site will not stop this from happening , but it will be on lower scale .
For now i will see what other users and the forums admins and mods think about this and what do they have in mind , but for now im not gonna upload new stuff from myself cause i dont want my uploads to roam freely around the web and than losing my account on a sharing site cause of high traffic on a file (100000 downloads in 1 day when i posted only on 1 site and there only 5 ppl climed to download the file) .
Quick example of a person who only leech .

It's one of the songs I'd call "magical"... The atmosphere is so soothing. Yeah when CROSS came out I was feeling pretty sad and depressed too and I always played that song while I was crying like a little baby (and sometimes smoking too) XD That track was also the reason I started to like them. Though I'm not at all familiar with their newer releases, I've heard just a few and didn't really like them. For me they lost their ~*magic*~ pretty quickly.

This is an amazingly hard topic for me since I really don't like to share my dearest songs with anyone else. It's not like the songs I consider to be the most personal aren't liked by others too - because naturally they are. I feel that if anyone close to me criticizes these songs I'd probably just feel pretty devastated. While listening to these songs I've cried a lot. They have so much emotional value for me that it's really difficult to listen to these songs on a daily basis.

^ Pretty much. The tax percentage on CDs is 21% (it used to be 12% or something but they included it in the 21% group lately) so on a package of 25 euros you pay like 5 euros of tax which isn't that bad at all. I mean for 5 euros I wouldn't mind ordering at CDJapan but having to pay 18 euros extra to the company, lmao, go eat a dick.
