You can also produce music without knowing how to play anything. I have three projects going on at the moment (metal/punk/surf/rock/rap with a friend, electronica and rap), and I can't play shit. Hell, I can barely use a computer. But that's not a big problem in 2018. For the stuff requiring actual instruments I just write riffs on my computer (using guitar pro), add bass/drums/synth/whatever in the program and get people I know to record it for me/us.

Very easy. So anyone can become a musician in 2018. Not everyone can live off their music as that requires both skills and plenty, plenty luck, but everyone can have it as a hobby.

You don't really need music lessons to become a decent musician tho. For some it might be easier with help, but you can just as well just play by yourself and learn along in your bedroom. Aren't musicians like David Bowie, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Prince, Frank Zappa, Dave Grohl and so on self-thought? And some of these are among the most impressive musicians the world has ever seen.

If you can't afford lessons, then just buy an instrument and learn how to play by yourself.

Isn't the majority of big horror movies marketed as "the scariest horror film ever" nowadays? It's so pathetic and annoying tbh. A really weak way to sell a film, but stupid people still gets fooled by it.

Not seen it, but very much looking forward to it. Looks neat.

I live in southern sweden so I'm not very familiar with Stockholm. @WhirlingBlacklives there though! If you like nerd stores I can recommend SF Bokhandel in Gamla stan., but that's about it.

Sci-Fi Bokhandeln in Gamla Stan, nearby there's also Sound Pollution which I suppose is the only specialized extreme metal store in the city that I know of, also the store that used to deal with the J-Rock materials back in the day (not anymore though, of course.)

I remember there being a really cool used record shop for metal around there too but I think it might have closed. If you're into a wide arrange of styles there's at least two I've visited with a pretty large selection, I'll ask my friend where they were located exactly because my memory is a bit hazy. When are you planning on coming to Stockholm?

I feel you. Always when I was listening to those "mainstream" bands or just more "unasian" I felt like they had no power. Even I started to compare Japanese hard-rock bands to American metal and I didn't feel any difference.  The only exception was Scandinavian metal which I adore still a lot.
I don't know is its only me but I haven't really liked System of a Down. I got bored after one month of listening to them. Maybe it was because of my friends of that time who was super hyped on it and I was pretending to be like hipster, denying everything what was popular and others' opinion. Probably I should give them a try again after some years but for this year I wanted to focus more on albums which I had for years but haven't listened yet.

I like McGregor, but he never stood a chance tbh. I'm fairly sure Mayweather could've knocked him the fuck out in round 2 if he wanted to, but with all the fuzz and hype he couldn't do so.

As talented as Mayweather is, he's one of the most boring fighters ever. Watching him fight gives me nothing at all. McGregor was behind all the fun in the match.

It might be boring, but it's fucking genius. I was a bit sceptical about the whole thing, but I've seen it work its magic on kids with both autism and ADHD, some of them even diagnosed with both, and it's absolutely beautiful. Genius!

That's what ignoring is, tho. If I ignore someone in real life, they can still talk to me. I just have to choose to not listen/give a fuck.

I've never heard of a forum where you can block people from seeing your post, and with good reason.

Extreme metal are an umbrella term mainly for black (pagan metal), death, thrash and grindcore, and occasionally also speed and doom metal even though speed metal is usually placed under the heavy metal umbrella and doom metal under the doom metal umbrella.

Symphonic extreme metal however are more or less just bullshit though. It's more often than not bands that mix symphonic black and death metal, and with elements avant-garde, progressive metal, goth metal or thrash metal. So usually it's just symphonic black/death metal but with some elements from other genres. Nothing more, nothing less.

I can't think of many bands a lot of bands I would just call "symphonic extreme metal", but one I can think of is Le Grand Guignol, even though you can just call it avant-garde extreme metal or whatever. A unique experience of horror and madness in the form of music. It's got a strong Devil Doll and Arcturus (La Masquerade Infernale) vibe to it, but as I am a huge fan of both bands I hink that's great. However, this is very different.

They only released one album under this name and it's a perfect 10/10. A must-have!

The genre is named after how the bands stared at their shoes, but shoegaze is basically a genre based around being loud with long, droning riffs, waves of distortion, loads of feedback, delay, and what not. Lots and lots and lots and lots and lots of effects pedals and stuff. Often resulting in a massive wall of sound where the guitars drowns most of the other instruments a lot of the time. And the overall atmosphere is often very dreamy.

Just listen to My Bloody Valentine's "Loveless" on repeat and you'll get it.
