Good for the nationwide. Time to deliver their music in larger way

Yeah, it's crazy how much support they have for an entirely new band with no veterans from the scene. Not many indies VK bands can hold a free concert, collaborate with a clothing brand and organize their first one man within 6 months despite their only releases being live limited. AND their latest single, albeit limited to X copies, sold out on pre-orders and day one purchases alone, while only being sold through indies VK record shops. Crazy.

  2. It was announced at リベリオ ファン感謝祭 mini free one man (2/3) that their new single (title unconfirmed) will be released on 5/31 nationwide (not live-only). Details of the single and in store events will be revealed at their 1st one man 'RESISTANCE TO DESPAIR' on 4/29.

They played at least 2 unreleased songs tonight.

  3. For the record Taka said he doesn't really like 'American Girls'. It's clear that the American label is pushing for them to break into the mainstream market overseas. Some of the songs on the Japanese version of the album are much more OOR style imo.

  4. Also, these guys don't like to share their set lists, but from memory the set at 1/29 was something like:

    01 Risley Circus

    02 Trend Identity

    03 Saishuu Densha

    04 Kusatta Mikan no Houteishiki

    05 Morphine 2

    06 Zouka to Kalashnikov

    07 Buriki

    08 Apathy Human

    09 MONEY

    10 Quiet Red

    11 Oboreru Sakana

If anyone knows the exact set list, please share!

  5. Just thought I'd mention while I remember, Yoshiatsu said at their 2man final with Grieva last week that they haven't decided on the tracklist for the new mini yet because there's a lot of songs they want to record. Something along the lines of 'we need to include this song... but what about this one...' (KIDS WAR? Please?)

Also, they're shooting a new PV this week.

  6. A few months ago I screen-grabbed this image from a YouTube video. I think it was a preview for an upcoming release at the time.

I remember finding this video through MH (possibly the VK DL forums) but since it's a band I don't listen to I can't find the source again.

Since upgrading to a laptop with a bigger screen, I was hoping to screen-grab a higher resolution version to use as my wallpaper. Does anyone know where it comes from?

    Thanks in advance!

  7. I think either AREA or O-WEST  (back before TSUTAYA bought all the O-series live houses). Was also lucky enough to go to Shibuya-AX before it closed down. I think at that time it was the largest live house in the metropolitan area, larger venues being classed as concert halls or stadiums/arenas.

Anyway... Great news! Wonder how many songs in dadaism #3 will be past material?

The only unreleased song they have atm is KIDS WAR. And since the PV on dadaism#2 was for Lucid Dream, I think dadaism#3 will also be all new tracks. Possibly the bonus track on the regular edition will be the piano version of Tsuki no uta that they put on YouTube for Christmas.

  10. It was announced at DADAROMA 2nd Anniversary One Man Tour Final 「造花とカラシニコフ」 (1/14) that they will release their 3rd mini-album '「dadaism♯3」' on April 19.

In addition their tour 'MASTURBATION.' will begin on 5/20 (SAT) at Shinjuku RUIDO K4 (Yoshiatsu's birthday live) until the tour final on 7/9 (SUN) at Shinjuku RENY.

Pictures on Twitter but I'm too lazy to copy them. If anyone has the setlist from tonight I'd love to see it.

リベリオ (Ribelio) new one coin single "ディレンマ" (Dilemma) will be released at their free mini oneman at 2017/02/03 at Ikebukuro Cyber.

This is incorrect. The free oneman is a thanksgiving event to fans, where they will talk and perform a short live set. Those who buy the single, which is limited to only a few copies, will have priority entry to the 2/3 event.

Single will cost 500 yen (1 song)  and will be available also on 2017.01.25 in these Tokyo stores : Like an Edison, Zeal Link, little Hearts

This is the correct release information. The obi strip from the single is equivalent to an A ticket for the 2/3 event. The B tickets will be distributed on the day after all A ticket holders have entered the venue.

  12. This was a release I gambled on by ordering it in advance, and it surpassed my expectations. There's some real energy here and from the powerful opener to the catchy closer, I've been spinning it over and over since it arrived through my door a day after release. The short length and distinct tracks make it very replayable in my opinion. Considering the number of songs they debuted at their first one-man too, I wouldn't be surprised if they announce another mini or even a full album soon. I'm excited for their live on 1/15, got my ticket a week or two ago.

Is anyone planning on reviewing this one? Unsure about buying it, Yume Tarareba was a bit of a turn down to me and the preview for this single didn't quite catch my attention...

The full track is great, it's not just a ballad but another one of their dramatic works. There's some brutal screaming and breakdowns in it too and the full PV is quite moving,

Second track was a meh ballad for me.

Third track is super catchy and sounds like it would be great fun live.

  14. I have very mixed feelings toward this album. I used to be a huge Versailles fan, but somewhere along the line with their hiatus and the disappointment that was Jupiter, I lost some of the wonder that their epic orchestral arrangements used to bring. I can sum up my main disappointment with this album in one reason though, and that's the mixing. While it's really great to hear new recordings of old hits, several times they are more accurately described as misses, ending up with some of the quirks of the original recordings being polished out rather than having had new life breathed into them.

Here's my take: the drums have been brought up in the mix, which is always pleasing with metal music; for the most part, the re-recorded vocals are much cleaner, although this is largely redundant on more recent tracks; and on the other hand, the bass has (disappointingly) sometimes been muted more into the background, leaving standout moments in some tracks like DESTINY a little lacking. In addition, for whatever reason the orchestral accompaniment sounds a lot more synthetic than it did before, meaning some of the atmosphere and spectacle is gone from the more dramatic tracks like Love from a Dead Orchestra.

While it's great to see new recordings of the older tracks like Shout & Bites, Dead Orchestra and The Revenant Choir, whether they have been significantly improved by being brought up to date on recording quality and mixing is up for debate. Furthermore, while it's nice that everything was clearly recorded to fit a uniform standard, several of the newer tracks feel somewhat unnecessarily renewed. In my opinion, the original versions were plenty good enough and the new ones are just a little too clean, losing some of their magic. I'm particularly disappointed in DESTINY, where the slick bass in the bridge that kind of served to introduce fans to new bassist MASASHI is all but lost in the mix, and the new vocals feel more clean than emotional compared to the original. That said, when the new takes benefit from being re-recorded, they do really shine. Shout & Bites and zombie in particular are great.

To round off this 'best album', the two new tracks are sadly rather forgettable; or at least, upon the first couple of listens, they didn't leave me with too much of an impact. It just felt like 'oh, Versailles are back!' This reveals for me a slight danger at the legendary group's return: while it's clear from their forays with solo work and Jupiter that, despite being individually talented musicians, they work best together as Versailles, this best album also reminds us of their signature style. And while more Versailles can only be good news, they need to be careful to remember what about their composition and world-building made them special, rather than playing it safe, when it comes to future releases.

As a whole, particularly for new fans, this is a great album. But for someone who has followed Versailles since they first emerged on the scene, as an attempt at producing a 'best' album, it falls a little short.

The return of Versailles is like a little kid coming home from school and showing their parents what they made that day. It's cute, but they tried a little too hard.
