  1. Great news!!! another single :) i'm sure there will an album release next year which I'm definitely looking forward.

About the useless discussion going on in this thread lol, kannivalism and baroque sound the same to me sometimes (criticize me all you want for this statement, I don't care the least) and that is probably because kei is the main composer in both baroque and kannivalism. And what makes these band come to life is ryo, because baroque/kannivalism voice is their trademark for me. As long as kyo continues singing and kei composing, people who enjoy their compositions will follow them.

Now, go ahead and spread anger and criticize me, i'll be waiting patiently so I can laugh wohoo :)

ayy the hate is fierce in this thread lul

Totally! I love how sometimes he appears to be mimicking Ryo's cadencies and rhythms with his notes. the little solo in AN ETERNITY is inspiring, his tuning is really unique

I don't understand why so much hate, their music is amazing ^^ and these 2 singles are also excellent, very good songs both, my favorite was FLOWER OF ROMANCE, I can't resist Ryo's voice on this one, it sounds amazing, I agree with some previous comments that he doesn't need to use autotune, his voice is beautiful as it is, so I don't know whose idea it was to use it XD but I don't hear any of it in these singles, so maybe they realized is not necessary.

  3. So I received the Aki Revolve album this week, and I have to say I am very pleased and surprised by how good this album is, my favorite song was AFTERWORD, I really love the synths in it with a very catchy rhythm, I've seen some people complaining about Aki's synth  usage, but in my case I love it, and I agree this is the nearest to Laputa sound, especially in the last albums like New temptation, they were moving into that direction and I think it fits very well with Aki's voice, after that my second favorite was 螺旋メリーゴーランド, this song has some guitar lines that reminds me of Laputa older works too, like silent on looker and songs like that, very melodic and pleasant to listen to. Then I loved CLIMAX STARLIGHT, BACK IN THE DAY had very strong beautiful synths and a fast paced chorus that I enjoyed very much, and the lead song REVOLVE is also very good, synths and great guitar solos, this combination is total WIN.

I think I'm going to buy some of the other albums, and I saw he released some new EPs too, but I don't see them listed in the Zoisite shop page, maybe it will be featured later ^^  it's very refreshing to listen to Aki's voice again, I really missed some new material with his beautiful voice. I think their looks were ok, not the main reason of why someone would follow a band, the music needs to be good, and if they look good, for me that's just a plus, in the case of Aki, I think he looks pretty similar to what he looked back then, maybe less thin, but that's just age, he still looks cool and mystic, for me he looks a bit like Yukiya Fujita which is another singer I admire a lot ^_^ and well, considering Aki has almost 50 it's amazing how good he looks in my opinion, and the voice is still as I remember it back in Laputa.

When you draw Aki, please definitely share it ^_^ I would love to see it.

I was going to recommend you the same album! The truth is that I am really glad to speak about them with other people (though I sound too emotional) and to see people talking about them. Aki will be releasing another album this year and, after listening to a live recording, I can't wait for it. Surprisingly, his voice hasn't changed much. But at times, especially when he is saying thank you, it is easy to understand his age. My favourite track on this one till now is Revolve. The album itself has been spoken well of. I am happy I decided to try his work too. And he is celebrating his 25th year on the 8th of August. If you are in Japan, maybe you could attend this live as the setlist seems good. Do tell us what you think of Revolve.

And this account... I doubt it is authentic. Here Kouichi says that he wants to study art in greater depth, talking something about DADA. Do you know who this person is? But, if the account is real, could it be that he has found something in art? Unlikely but I hope he is happy with whatever he is doing. It is his birthday in a few days by the way. And I drew this for the said occasion. I do not know if he does look like this but I don't have any chance of seeing him nor does he have any chance of seeing this. I hope more people drew them now as they used to do before. If no one does, the fan base seems non-existent.

I'm also very happy to be able to talk about them.. honestly I don't know anybody else who likes this band the way I do, so i understand the feeling lol  the previews for this album sound awesome, my mailing service says the album will arrive this week, so I will definitely publish my opinion on it ^^  I can't wait to hear new music with Aki's voice which I always liked so much. A few days ago I got nostalgic, and I watched the "Heaven to perfection" DVD, that is such a great concert, I love the set list.  Unfortunately I'm not in Japan, but I'm planning to go by the end of the year for some other concerts I'm interested in, so I will be checking Aki's schedule in case he has something planned around those dates.

Thanks for sharing the Kouichi account, I don't think someone would fake him.. since he is not that famous now, so maybe it is legitimate. About DADA, the only DADA I know of is the vocalist from the band Velvet Eden, I haven't seen them much active recently, so maybe Koichi is working something with this person? interesting..  and thanks a lot for sharing the drawing! it looks amazing :D you have very good drawing skills, maybe you should draw Aki too, or maybe you have done it already? if so, please share too ;)

If I may throw in my five cents here...

I have followed Ryoga since BORN were just a tiny indie band, where I saw them from the back of a tiny venue. They were the last band on stage, and I didn't pay them much attention, but I did notice that they got the crowd moving. Since then I started seeing them, first at events, and later I went for them specifically. Because my first impression was correct.

Ryoga may not be the best vocalist in the world - BORN was messy and RAZOR isn't much different, and his vocals certainly doesn't make it any better, but it serves its purpose: Their lives are super fun. Messy, sweaty and crazy. I have followed Ryoga into RAZOR because of the energy he brings into lives. He gives it 120% and that energy just pours over the edge of the stage. And if it doesn't he will force feed it to ou and shove it down your throat.

They are a live band first and foremost, and a great one if you like a goodhearted abare band ❤️

All that said, has anyone gotten their hands on the new single, 「紅く散らばる華」yet? :D

I've been very excited about RAZOR, I didn't follow BORN that much but I thought it was ok.. however, I find RAZOR totally amazing and I would love to see them release some concert footage in DVD or something. I ordered the new single, it should arrive on tuesday.. I will post my thoughts then :)

  6. oh yes !!!!! the best news this year :D  I was checking but it's not available for pre-order yet, I tried HMV and Amazon.. maybe within a few days, I hope the limited edition comes with something interesting.. Heterodox just had the Evil PV and nothing else, I would like some backstage or if it's the PV, at least include the "making of" footage.. ^^

Does anyone remember the name of that god-awful pop song Kyo, and other VK vocalists, had a cameo on?

It was shared on Monochrome-Heaven YEARS ago, if I remember correctly it also features Shinya on drums; but I may be mis-remembering that.

    EDIT: nevermind, I found it!

hahaha funny you guys mention that it is so bad, I actually love this song, and most of Yukiya Fujita works such as D=Sire, JILS and his solo releases are amazing.. it's interesting that tastes can be so different :D

Tbh Versailles is more my style musically (I love power metal), but I think I'm so fixated on Lareine because their music had variety. There's nothing in Lareine's discography that makes me go "Oh, this sounds like a rehash of another song, still good though" and I catch myself doing that with Versailles a lot.

    Anyway I want to hear Billet live and afaik there's no recorded footage of it. ;;

I feel the same way, for me the best Kamijo work will always be Lareine, it was very unique.

I've had some Laputa songs in my library for a bit now, but after seeing this thread, I grabbed their discography. Took a minute to grow on me, but I'm starting to really love them ... Thanks y'all!

I'm glad this thread help revive some interest for Laputa and his members ^_^  they were definitely one of the greatest bands in visual kei history. On my side, I checked the vocalist's (Aki) recent works and it sounds very decent, so i ordered the latest album called "Revolve" , looking forward to it.

Can't believe they were being discussed here and I came to know now. I am familiar with nearly their entire discography, at least of what was released by them (I haven't listened to Darkside Nightmare yet). But it has been only five years since I know them. Even with such experience, I believe I can say this: New Temptation and  OΦΦ are the worst releases (in my opinion). Anyway, I can't even select a favourite album. @Zalemu Refrain Limit/Drug Habit would have been in my favourites had it not had that chorus. I love everything else about it. It is hard to believe it is not liked much.

From their later sound, 深海 is worth listening to. B.C., Crash boy, 木漏れ日, 君の声, borderline, masquerade and 舌 are some others. If you wish to listen to something old, Sadistの夢 is better than 私が消える (again, in my opinion). If you wish to listen to buy an entire album, try Cakera instead of Emadara and Jakou. (If you have time, try them too). I guess I can call these my favourite releases.

Something I wouldn't really recommend you to watch but should be shared: (restricted to their FC but someone yet uploaded it)

I have nearly all of their albums. That's my modest collection. Thinking of getting more soon, especially some VHS.

@geist I have noticed that many fans of Laputa also like Dir en grey, including me. @jaymee They talk about them?! Mind giving an example you might remember? I used to always argue that they are still popular in Japan and nobody believed me. But they have lost a lot of support from overseas. I seriously drew a fan art and posted it on a group on Facebook with nearly 7000 members and no one recognised them.

If you like them, please follow their solo projects too. Poor Kouichi (their guitarist) has not updated his website in 6 years. Guessing he must have left the music scene. The others are still active. The vocalist's solo project seems to be going really good. You may check out the previews uploaded on YouTube by Khaos Number if you like his voice. You can purchase his works on Zoisite if you like them too.

I remember when Laputa disbanded, it was also one of my favorite bands at the time; I tried following up the vocalists (Aki)'s works, but it was very experimental when he first started and I really forgot to do some follow up on him!  I'm going to check out his latest works, if you have any recommended song, let me know ^_^

And I am very sad to know that Kouichi might have left the music scene.. he was so talented.. :(

  11. I'm so happy about this band getting so active again, I received the bluray today and watching right now, and it is amazing so far. I really loved Black Bane; I'm excited to listen to Gakido and Nutty a hermit again, so much nostalgia with those songs omg... hehehe  I really liked their old style, the new songs are more slow and with electronic sound, I hope they find a balance, because their old style was so awesome

  12. This is definitely one of the best VK bands to have ever existed, it was among my favorites for a long time. Anyone remember this master piece?  Aki was really an amazing singer, I was not able to get into his solo stuff afterwards, it was too experimental for my taste.. but this is definitely a band i will always miss

I got the same MBHI atmosphere, for PINOCCHIO and as well for HONEY. Damn, we all here are surely missing MBHI a lot lol.

Tenten, Kouryu and Tetsuya throw everything away and get Ryo and Daisuke from their home and get back already!

Ohhh how come I missed this MBHI band xD I never listened before, I've been checking some of their songs and it's very awesome, that interesting offbeat rhythms like the song PINOCCHIO, I realize this kind of melodies that are not lineal.. but full of changes with strong and defined bass lines, it's very catchy to my ears. Thanks for the indirect recommendation XD  too bad that band is disbanded, but we can enjoy RAZOR now.
