Kote kei is usually defined as the stuff that came after the first wave of VK (1985-1994).  The first wave of VK was often labeled as Heavy Metal back in the day, the same label used for bands such as Loudness and Anthem. In fact most rock music that was heavier than pop rock was labeled as metal music in Japan during that period.
 
The 1985-1994 era is often called the "East vs West" era due to the playful rivalry between Extasy Records and Free-Will Records during the period.  I don't think there's an actual "kei" genre describing this period.  I freaking love this era of VK because the majority of the bands did not sound a like and I have spent a good several years researching random bands of this period.  Extasy was more metal and were Kanto based while Free-Will was more punk and were Kansai based.  (Very basic info.)  Most of the big bands were either signed to one of those two labels.  There are a handful that weren't; they often weren't as big as the Extasy or Free-Will groups, maybe with Strawberry Fields, D'erlanger, Aion, Justy-Nasty, and Aura being the exceptions. I could go on and on about random crap that no one cares about of this era.
 
Proto-VK bands were often formed before 1985 and have heavy connections to VK or were a huge influence; however, another major thing if a band is a proto-VK band is when was their first album released.  Most proto-VK bands have had albums released before 1988, while bands that are labeled as VK have their albums released in 1988.  Bands such as The Stalin, 44Magnum, and Gastunk are pretty much considered proto-VK.  You could argue Dead End, Flatbacker, Laughin' Nose, and Buck-Tick are proto-VK.  Hell, RC Succession and Loudness can be called proto-VK if you think about it.  Proto-VK is like proto-punk, it is the bands that influenced the bands that started the original visual kei scene.

I hope they can somehow recover their web and twitter data and re-stablish themselves since mad magazine records did a great job listing them on all retailers and distributing that info all over the place. Their producers did an awesome job at pretty much everything, actually, with all those consecutive gigs with well known bands to promote the single release. Fingers crossed so the can channel back all that effort. 
 
What is more worriesome to me is how it affected the viability of the band. It seemed like he was fired on the spot by the band but he still was able to pull his scumbag antics such as ruining their on line presence... so I am affraid he was able to reach the band's funds. I hope they were able to evade the blow beyond internet assholery antics. I've waited like 4 years to have new decent Akira material and I don't want a con artist to make me wait another 3 or just make him retire for good. 
 
Then again, I am hopeful they were able to cut the infection soon enough.

It seems the vo. went rogue and erased them or messed with them in some way., so official announcements were made on Isuke's twitter. He's a real piece of work,this kiku guy...
 
I don't think this project is over. The more I try to get what happened the more I think they doged a bullet here. Sure, some deals were in place to promote the band and everything seemed to be going smoothly but it would honestly be a worse sign if they still released the single. They probably want to rework the band and properly launch it than having to pay rights for performance and lyrics to a person they don't want to be asociated with. So they rather start anew even if that means throwing some serious work into the bin.
 
This whole tanuki campaign was about warning Akira and Isuke before it developed into a bigger problem and stopping when the band just literally played once is dumb.
 
I think/hope we can have news from this band or a new concept with the same people around late spring at the earliest.

Als jemand, die die Augenbrauen anmalt: es ist eine Frage des Geschmacks. Ich persönlich hasse meine natürlichen Augenbrauen, weil sie in alle Richtungen wachsen (aber nur vorne bei der Nase. Richtung Ohren sind sie extrem dünn und fast nicht da). Also mache ich sie einfach weg oder zupfe sie so dünn, dass ich sie formen kann wie ich will. Es gibt meiner Meinung nach viel mehr Kontrolle über das Make-up und den gesamten Look. Wobei permanente Augenbrauen nix für mich sind, denn ich mag es, das ich jeden Tag was anderes machen kann.
 
Allerdings bin ich eine doofe Gruftie Tussi und bei mir geht nix ohne dramatisches Augen-make-up und Lippenstift. (was nicht heisst, dass ich permament nur geschminkt bin). Hätte ich bessere Haare, würde ich sie mir auch so wunderbar stylen wie die Waver/Goths der 80er. Für viele sieht so was grausig aus, aber ich mags. Schönheit liegt im Auge des Betrachters, dewegen rege ich mich persönlich auch nicht mehr darüber auf, wie sich andere stylen. Und sollen manche Frauen halt hundert Kilo Make-up tragen und sich wie Hühner bräunen; es ist deren Entscheidung und so lange sie niemanden damit schaden oder auf den Arsch gehen, kanns mir egal sein.
 
Und was ist schon „natürlich”? Ich glaube als Menschen, die im Jahre 2015 leben, sollten wir langsam aufhören dieses eh schon von jedem Kontext gerissene Wort überzustrapazieren. Inzwischen gibts ja keine Werbung mehr, die das Wort inflationär benutzt um nichtsahnenden  einzureden, ihr Pordukt sei besser als andere. Bitte, wir leben in Blockhäuser, rennen auf betonierten Böden herum und kaufen unser Fleisch fertig abgepackt im Supermarkt. Natürlich ist da schon lange gar nix mehr. Und dementsprechend kann ich das Wort in keinerlei Zusammenhang mehr hören, sei es Chemie (die prinzipiell natürlich ist, da alles Chemie ist. Wir bestehen ja nicht aus Vakuum), Sexualität oder Kleidungsstile. Und vor allem Essen (natürlich wärs einzig und allein dein Wild im Wald zu jagen und Beeren von Sträuchern zu sammeln. Selbst das Obst und Gemüse, dass wir anpflanzen ist extra gezüchtet worden und hat nichts mehr mit den ursprünglichen wilden Varianten gemein)

Zum Thema Männer und Mode/Aussehen: ich habs nie verstanden, warum da immer noch so viel Drama gemacht wird. Es gab mal eine Zeit, da wurden Frauen verpönt, gezüchtigt—ja, sogar in die Psychiatrie geschickt—weil sie „männliche” Kleidung trugen. Inzwischen macht sich keiner mehr in die Hose, wenn eine Frau eine Hose oder einen Anzug trägt. Selbst kurze Haare können auch die meisten schon beim weiblichen geschlecht verkraften. Aber wehe ein Mann trägt ein Kleid oder einen Rock—dann steht die Apokalypse bevor! So zu denken ist hypokritisch und entbehrt jeder Logik. Leider typisch menschlich.
