  1. I can't hear/see what the last part is but the first two censored parts says:

    生まれてきたことが申し訳ないような気分になるけれどお父さんごめんねあたしの将来は親不孝ものです

    その目で見ないでこんなあたしだってと強く生きてますお父さんごめんねあたしの居場所はここしかないのよ

Oh, I already finished the lyrics. http://hiphopvomit.blogspot.com/2016/01/gossip-baka-aho-manuke-banzai.html

In the second line you wrote, you have お父さん, but I'm pretty sure he says お母さん .

  2. I actually now have the opinion that Eiki was the best song Mejibray put out in 2015. I barely listened to it, haven't heard it since May, yet I still remember how it goes.

That plodding beat. That part of the vocal performance reminiscent of a man being tortured and/or dying (which is normal for Tsuzuku). That other part of the vocals where he pulls off some great falsetto. Koichi's bass work being allowed to shine.

    ....I'm not being sarcastic...

Biggest disappointment was prob. amber gris disbanding.

  3. *old guy coming through*

(Blasphemy?) I liked Lufia II more than Chrono Trigger on SNES.

I mean, Chrono Trigger is great of course... but Lufia is a ton of fun and I felt like the people who knew about it/loved it were part of an exclusive club whereas everybody was playing CT.

I'm older than you, sir. You calling me an old woman? HOW DARE YOU.

I think Chrono Trigger is overhyped. It's a good game but people worship it a bit too much. (then again, I pretty much think that everything is overhyped..)

I never played the Lufia games, mostly because I never heard of them. :(

More games I liked... I barely remember them now, but I remember being enamored with Super Mario RPG, Earthbound, and Terranigma. Hey, what about Pokemon? I only played Red/Blue and Gold/Silver, those were good games.

South Park: The Stick of Truth was the best RPG based on a TV show.

Also I'm not sure if you would call the Yakuza series "RPGs"... hmm.. random-ish encounters, long convoluted story, tons of side quests and mini games... I guess they are RPGs after all. Yes, Yakuza is definitely one of my all-time favourite RPG series.

  4. Yay RPGs! Especially JRPGs!!!

The very first game I ever laid eyes on, and played, was the original Dragon Warrior on the NES. I was reaaaaally young at this time. Anyway, I have remained a fan of Dragon Warrior/Quest and I'm really looking forward to XI (though the latest rumour is that it's been delayed to 2017..)

I am also a big fan of Final Fantasy.. my favourites are 4, 6, 8, 10, 12.  (10's anti-religion story kind of changed my life)

I kind of hated the 13 series, though I still forced myself to play them.

    I haven't played 2, 3, 14, Type-0. (I played 11 for a few hours and decided I hated it)

I hope 15 and the 7 remake end up being good.

I've also played a whole bunch of Tales games, those are always good for fun character interactions. I've also played some games in the Breath of Fire & Star Ocean series. Probably a bunch of other stuff I'm forgetting.

As for WRPGs, I really enjoyed D&D style games like Baldur's Gate & Neverwinter Nights. I'm not really into the tactical aspect, so I just turned on god mode and went through them for story/dialogue. Also quite enjoyed the Dragon Age series and Witcher 2. Just started playing Witcher 3.

I do want to mention stuff I don't like.. Ni no Kuni was too slow-paced and grindy but I managed to finish it, gonna skip the sequel. I don't really like stories about children. Persona 3, I gave up after a few hours cuz I didn't like the dungeon crawling aspect and the time limit. Then I forced myself to play Persona 4 Golden cuz so many people say it's amazing.. but I got the bad ending (I think it's like 3/4 into the game?) and then just quit playing. Too bad, I wish I could share in the Persona 5 hype. I also don't really like "tactical" or "strategy" RPGs.

  5. Since I last posted (coincidentally exactly 1 month ago), I've finished a bunch of games.

Assassin's Creed Syndicate - Crappy final boss fight & super disappointing ending, but I still give the game high marks for the gameplay. Stabbing people in the gut/chest/face or slitting their throats or throwing knives into their foreheads NEVER GETS OLD. I even got the platinum trophy, yay for me!

Grow Home -  I fought through the nausea and made it back to my spaceship thing. Really a fun, cute little game that I would recommend. I just wish it didn't make me sick.. it's really unusual, cuz I don't typically get motion sickness..

Bastion - Interesting story. Gameplay was ok, but I wasn't really sold on it. Not gonna bother with any of the challenge room stuff.

Life is Strange - omg, I cried twice during this game. Very cool gameplay mechanics, emotionally affecting story. Highly recommended.

Tales from the Borderlands - Decently amusing story & dialogue. I probably would've liked it more if I had played any of the Borderlands games, cuz I assume there were a ton of references I missed. Actually it kind of made me want to play Borderlands, but then I remembered those are FPS and I don't play FPS. Too bad.

    ----

    Currently playing:

The Witcher 3 - Only played about 2 hours, seems really cool. I did a quest involving a frying pan and I am amazed this stuff is all voiced and animated to such high quality. It makes me wish stuff like the Yakuza series would voice all their silly side quests.

英雄伝説 閃の軌跡 (Legend of Heroes - Trails of Cold Steel) - Still pretty early in this game. God damn, so much dialogue. Gameplay seems fun so far. I am starting to wish that I had just gotten the English version cuz there actually isn't a lot of voice acting (the main character seems to be not voiced at all, outside of really important story scenes). Reading all the Japanese is slowing me down.. Also, I am getting tired of the stereotypical anime high school setting.

彼女(あのコ)はオレからはなれない (Ano ko wa ore kara hanarenai / "She won't leave me alone") - This is a visual novel, once again set in high school. I only bought it cuz it was on sale and I thought it would be an easy platinum... BUT IT HAS NO PLATINUM. Stupid me. It has next to zero gameplay.. all the choices are just "Which girl do you want to hang out with". Well, at least the story scenarios have been mildly amusing so far. But I'm starting to think every girl is annoying on some level, and that's a bad sign. Language-wise, it uses a ridiculous amount of internet slang that has me googling a whole lot... so I guess it's been educational.

Gems of War - Still grinding out one last trophy ("Reach level 100"). Nothing new to say about it. I almost want to quit but I'm already at level 85 so I might as well finish it.

  6. uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh wow totally missed this news (not surprising cuz i usually don't keep up with news) ..

Japanese industry rules & fans expectations are very very different from Western countries. Correct me if I'm wrong, because you guys would probably know better than me, but I've heard of musicians that got in trouble for taking drugs, and they basically get blacklisted & all their material gets banned from stores. Whereas many Western musicians are known drug addicts (and/or get caught cheating) and no one gives a shit.

welp, I'm not a huge fan of Femme Fatale, I find Kaya's solo work so much better .. hope he goes back to that style.

Maybe I would like Schwarz Stein, I downloaded some of their stuff YEARS ago but never bothered to listen to it.

  7. I don't really get the lynch. love. I've done lyrics for their stuff since 2012, and not a single one of their songs has made any impression on me. I guess it doesn't help that I find Hazuki's vocals completely unremarkable... The band is decent enough, just not outstanding or interesting to me in any way.

  8. Ah, Wagakki Band. Only the 3rd album in the list that I've actually heard, and the 2nd that I actually like.

I really like the sometimes-chaotic mix of rock & traditional instruments (not a surprise, considering I'm a big fan of Kiryu). The female singer's voice is very beautiful and pleasant to listen to.

    My personal fave songs:

風鈴の唄うたい - I've morbidly decided that this would be an amazing funeral song.

    暁ノ糸

    追憶

  9. I only call MiA "boring" because it seems like he's been doing the "prince" costume for a long time. Meanwhile the other 3 members seem to have more drastic costume/makeup changes. (I could be remembering wrong). And for me, personally, half the reason I follow this band is their visuals. He still looks good, I would just like to see him do something different.

Not saying anything about his guitar skills. I think he's good, but I'm not very technical about that stuff so I wouldn't really know.

  10. My gut reaction upon seeing the group pic was "omg this is the first time I think Koichi looks bad"

But upon closer inspection of his solo pictures, I think he looks beautiful as usual. Probably the best feminine-looking VK dude, IMO.

This is possibly the first time I think Tsuzuku actually looks interesting.

    Meto looks like 5I2Mumd.jpg?1

    MiA is so boring.

Also, I hate consecutive singles. MEJIBRAY does it so often that it's thoroughly annoying.

  11. I have not noticed any increase in CD prices. For most CDs I buy, singles are 1200-1500 yen, and albums are 2500-3000 yen. Mini albums are somewhere in between. It seems to have been that way for many years... The tax increase shouldn't affect you unless you live in Japan.

But here's what really makes me mad:

    1. Japanese CDs cost about twice as much as American CDs, and I have to pay shipping (and sometimes customs) on top of that.

    2. Record labels are pulling more and more bullshit stunts like releasing multiple versions of one CD. There is almost always both CD only and CD+DVD versions. There now seem to be more cases where they release 3-10 (!!!) versions of one single, with different coupling tracks or DVD content on each one, in order to encourage the fans to spend more money. I myself have bought up to 4 versions of the same single so I guess I am part of the problem. :(

  12.

I can't really define what I think makes a cool band name... nonsensical phrases either really hit or miss with me. I think My Heaven's Luck Sisters is a great band name, but think My Bacteria Heat Island is kinda stupid. There's really no logic.

Agreed. There were a lot more "nonsensical phrase" names that I saw, but I found them acceptable or cool for no particular reason. I saw a band called ANGRY FROG REBIRTH, and I thought that's a pretty cool name. But other people might think it's a dumb name.

You mean it's not "vee-new"? I never would have guessed.

Then again, I still read xTRiPx as "ekks trip" in my head. Even though there's clearly a second x at the end and I know it's just "trip", I can't see it any other way for some reason.

I always read that name as "ekks trip ekks".

Another one I screw up constantly is D=OUT. It's just pronounced like the English word "doubt" but I read it as "dee out".

You guys made me doubt myself re: ν[NEU]. I just checked vkdb and they say the pronunciation is "nyuu" (ニュー) . http://www.vkdb.jp/NEU.html

So yeah, it's really not "vee new". ^_^

  13. The main reason I stopped listening to Western (English) music was because of lyrics.

I feel embarrassed when I'm listening to song that is, for example, describing hot sex, and there are other people around me. It might be a great song, but I'd stop listening to it just because of the lyrics.

I also get annoyed when lines are forced to rhyme. For example.. this is from a Justin Bieber song: "You know you love me, I know you care / Just shout whenever, and I'll be there / You are my love, you are my heart / And we would never ever ever be apart". Bleh, the rhyming is so dumb, and because of the very common subject matter, a thousand other songs probably contain the same rhymes. There are a limited number of words that rhyme with "heart", and forcing the next/previous line to rhyme with it just.. seems so unnecessary and juvenile. (of course, there are exceptions where the rhyming is done very well)

Japanese music solves both of those problems. No one around me understands a word of Japanese, and rhyming is not really a thing in Japanese lyrics. And whenever they do decide to sing in English, the botched pronunciation/grammar is usually amusing enough that I don't mind. (unless the entire song is in Engrish, which might get annoying)

So.. do I feel the need to understand Japanese lyrics? Not really. I can just enjoy the music without worrying about what the song is about. Since it's not my native language, I don't interpret the words unless I decide to really pay attention to it, so "bad" lyrics don't get in the way of enjoying the overall song. On the other hand, "good" lyrics can make an average song exceptional, but I think that's rarer. There are certain lyric writers that I really respect (i.e. Temari from amber gris, Mitsu from Dolly/DOPPEL) that usually write really beautiful stuff, so I might put some extra effort into understanding their words, but otherwise it's not very important to me.

  14. Browsed around another Japanese download site, and found a lot of stupid names. I don't think these were mentioned before:

    OLEDICKFOGGY

    Plastic Girl in Closet

    ROOKiEZ is PUNK'D

    GAS CRACKERZ

    Wake Up, Girls!

    Phew

    THE BED ROOM TAPE

    agenda is packed

    A Barking Dog Never Bites

    my ex

    toe

    BOYS AND MEN

    Beat Buddy Boi

    i am robot and proud

    never young beach

    YOUNG JUVENILE YOUTH

    BUMP OF CHICKEN

    Awesome City Club

    I Don't Like Mondays.

    Upset Heroes!

for example you sell the sea

    Suck a Stew Dry

    Do As Infinity

    the chef cooks me

    ...

... that's probably enough for now.

    Honorable Mentions:

Wagakki Band - I really love this band, but their name literally translates to "Japanese Traditional Instrument Band". ..............

I'm surprised nobody mentioned K (the Korean R&B singer who also had a successful Japanese career) during the single-letter discussion. There was also a solo female punk/rock "singer" using the name D[di:]. I really liked her because she couldn't sing at all.

Let us not forget ν[NEU], especially because that thing that looks like a v is actually the greek letter "nu", and I think their name is just pronounced "nu", but I keep calling them "Vee new".

And lastly, the VK band †яi¢к .

  15. I'm still scrobbling, because I've been doing it for 9.5 years, have 191k scrobbles, and (perhaps foolishly) invested a ton of time into making my charts "accurate".

However, they've already messed it up because, for example, my unicode REIGN tag is now auto-redirecting to unicode Reign, which is a different VK band. Same is happening for SHIVA -> Shiva. Even though I disabled the "auto-correct" function!!! I don't really want to change the tags to something more fucked up, like mixing unicode & regular letters.

Like everyone else, I hate the new design. I don't understand why they launched it while it was still in beta. How could it take them so many months to re-add something as basic as image uploading & voting?? Granted, I don't know very much about website development, but the way they've handled it doesn't make sense.

I just want them to fix the search, it's so hard to find Japanese bands when they only let you choose from 5 search items per search.

Search is useless, I just type/paste the band name into the URL.

  16. True, it's rare to see a JRPG protagonist that isn't a boring overused trope, the only example i can think of right now is the Drakengard series, and Tales isn't particularly known for storytelling, it's more about flashy combat and character interactions if anything. So even if the whole cast are a bunch of walking stereotypes, watching them interact with each other might be fun.

Yeah, one of my favourite things about Tales is the skits, they are usually quite amusing.

  17. I'm really not a fan of characters made in the style of the new protagonist, edgy with a dark past and a curse/dark power, that's far too overused for me to enjoy it, but maybe if it's handled right and brings something new to the table it might turn out good.

As for gameplay, graphics and heck, everything, it looks to be similar to Xilia and Zestiria, which is alright, they should try to improve it if they're aiming for current gen releases though.

Yeah, the "dark past" thing is a trope.. but I prefer it way more than the other JRPG protagonist tropes, which are like.. "grew up in a tiny village and becomes the world saviour" or .. "average high school student becomes big hero".. also, these characters tend to have positive/friendly personalities. Velvet doesn't seem like that, so I hope she will be more interesting (but given that this is Tales, I wouldn't be surprised if she becomes a walking stereotype). Looking forward to seeing how this turns out, either way!
