It's French/English spoken and set in Paris, but it's actually a Legendary Pictures produced picture, thus American.

Some good titles... seeing as I cannot seem to find the most underground of underground (and underrated), the ones I'll name are probably already known to you, as well. "The Last Will and Testament of Rosalind Leigh", The Dyatlov Pass Incident (Devil's Pass)", "The Quiet Ones", "Devil's Due", "The Unborn", "The Possession of Michael King", "Grace, the Possession", At the Devil's Door", "The Possession", "Shutter", "The Devil Inside", and those are the ones that are highest up on my list of recently watched.

Good job facing your fears beni!
Eraser Head's a weird one! It definitely stands out from other films I've seen but it's not one of those movies I've wanted to watch again.
Speaking of chainsaw, i just watched the 'series' up to the 2003 remake and....I dunno, it feels like the series took a turn.
As I mentioned, 2 was great. It expanded upon the events set in the first film and added in some black comedy.
3 was just ok, but there were actually some great parts. Viggo Mortensen's in this! Aragorn, son of Arathorn, king of men and a brother to Elves!
Anywho, I actually watched this in 2 sittings. The first 20 minutes or so kind of bored me. But, the movie gets alot more interesting. There's a cat and mouse-like chase scene in a forest with Leatherface and our protagonists and, surprisingly, the movie gets really suspenseful and had me hooked. There is some crazy family stuff later in the film, but it's not long enough and I wish they added more scenes. I don't want to see a re-hash of the first 2 films, but something extra, I think, would have made the movie even better.
4 is when you start to wonder what's going on with the series. Group of students at prom get entangled with the Leatherface family and craziness ensues. But everything is louder and people are more dramatic. The characters aren't as memorable, the acting from the kids are horribly directed, and Leatherface is changed to be a whiney drag queen.
By the way, Matthew friggen McConaughey and Renee Zellweger are in this. They're the only reason to see this IMO. Everything else just sort of falls flat and nothing is explained.
The 2003 remake bored me. Back then I think I would've had nightmares but it's full of stupid people making bad decisions. The bad guys are always somehow bending the rules like not making any noise when walking (to generate jumps scares) and, in running parts, somehow being right behind the main character despite being blocked by something or stuck or hurt.
For me it's not a matter of "is it 100% faithful to the original" because no it's not. And that's fine with me because this one was made to be different using the original as a springboard for inspiration. All the original elements are there, it's just told differently. So, in a way it's actually a good remake. This movie is a lot darker and delves deeper into the goriness of the situation rather than the mad house family insanity. That being said, it's not too bad (although there's one cringe worthy scene). There are memorable characters like the sheriff and the acting is good.
Maybe a bit outdated but good enough for 1 or 2 spins. I think I'm just conditioned to Michael Bay's directing.

Well, it's a torture porn with the most important ingredients, but it's a lot different from Saw, Hostel, A Serbian Film and so on. It's frustratingly dark and bleak, and desite all its violence it is not the violence itself that makes it a disturbing film. Unlike Saw, which is fun with all of its creative kills and blood, this isn't fun in that way. It's not silly in the same way as most other tortue porns. It's just deeply disturbing in a great way.

Yeah, Martyrs is one fucked up movie. A while after I watched it (first time) I bought it on DVD and, well...... only re-watched it much later. XD So yeah, it's a great movie (one of the best French horror flicks of all time imo) but if you're the type of person it can get under your skin.

My favorite album is probably SHADOWS. The album that was released after that, I BELIEVE IN ME, is very good but everything after that is average imo. Only post-2011 song I remember really liking is THE MORNING GLOW and it's a b-side. There might be some hidden gems on the three most recent albums (counting the mini-album too) but I don't really remember that well, they didn't leave a good impression to me.

I think they should focus on doing more lighter songs like Lie, Frozen or Maze instead of the oogaboogacore.

I have to say as good as their older albums are, the post-Shadowz releases don't disappoint. GALLOWS is a bit sterile as they have settled into a very expected metal sound being Nagoya Kei but if you can get over it's samey nature there are still some quite good songs.

ghost got a reaction from Seimeisen in Sadie - Gangsta
This is the worst release Sadie has ever put out.
    It's inconsistent, repetitive, and unmemorable.

The first problem is that every track overstays its welcome. More than half the album is over 4 minutes, most going almost up to 5. While you might think that's actually a good thing, it isn't. There are plenty of tracks that would be fine if they ended about halfway through, especially the heavier ones, but they keep going and going repeating the same elements. It really drags the album down.

The inconsistency in this album is no secret. You've got tracks where M to the ao tries the rapping thing (2 only actually), a few that sound more like a poor rendition of a middle school jazz play soundtrack, one that tries to implement electronics and synth for that fun and poppy yet heavy sound, a heavy alternative song (that sounds somewhat like Yellow Card's "Lights and Sound"), an uplifting pop ballad, a "Spirited Away" instrumental piano track, and a majority of songs that feature Sadie's typical chug a chug who gives a shrug style.

I'm not even disappointed that the album doesn't incorporate any "gangsta" elements. I just at least expect a uniform sound throughout the album. The album is all over the place and has absolutely no idea what its identity is. I found "Madrigal de Maria" to be a poor album, but it still had a uniform sound between all the songs and you can tell they're all from the same album.

But not using the gangster elements is another thing. If you're going to call your album "Gangsta" and even have a few tracks where you try to implement things like rap, why are there only 2 tracks that you do this on? What is the point to all this? You take these 2 songs out and you're left with nothing that relates to the title. Either go full out or don't do it at all. Make a choice and stick with it.

I found barely anything worth listening to on this natural born trash CD that is only good as orange rotted.

-Shoot the targets, hidden in your mind - there's a lovely melancholy guitar break 2:40-2:50. The actual break is longer than that but when Mao comes in his vocals ruin it.
-Gesshoku - It sounds like Mao says "I scream for you p***y". It's kinda (kinda) funny.
-I find Tokyo Gypsy to be the only song I can listen to (the last guitar melody actually kind of sounds like something off the GazettE's Disorder. Tokyo Shinjuu, Tokyo Gypsy. Coincidence?...maybe?)

All in all there's about 5:04 worth of stuff I would listen to on this album.
Sadie needs to stop releasing material for a while and really think about what to do with their music. I think this album proves that they have no idea.

Gangsta is a prolonged cluttered wreck that needs to be banned and cut off from all access to consumers.
In fact, someone needs to take every copy and

Really glad to see this review man! They're a band that I don't see mentioned too much, so its good to see them getting a bit of acknowledgement.
Personally, they've been hit or miss with me, but their "hits" always have a permanent spot in my rotation. I feel like their previous albums didn't really have a fully formed sound...like the band kinda knew what direction they wanted to go, but were still experimenting and trying to figure things out.
Now on "OUT OF THE BLUE", I feel like the band has found a sound that they can be consistently effective at. I think they still have a slightly experimental/off-kilter edge to them, but it's more subdued and tasteful this time around. Their best work yet for me.

ghost reacted to doombox in #14: 虚言NEUROSE by MY FIRST STORY
Artist: MY FIRST STORY Album: 虚言NEUROSE Score: Blazing your own trail isn't all it's cracked up to be. It seems MY FIRST STORY have had a solid increase in popularity over the short amount of time they've been a band. In 2011 members of the piano-pop outfit fromus joined forces Hiroki Moriuchi and formed an alternative-rock powerhouse. 虚言NEUROSE (Kyogen NEUROSE) is their third full length album and shows a solid change in the band's direction taking shape.

It's a nice that the first track "monologue" pays homage to the piano-centric compositions from the band's early days. Soon electronic elements creep in and the intro builds on itself until it blends seamlessly into the title track, "虚言NEUROSE". This song is a high energy crowd-pleaser with open power chords and more atmospheric synth. It breaks down into small haunting piano interludes that are the dynamic strength of the track. Sadly, the song ends up being forgettable and blends into about 10 other similar tunes in my memory if I try to recall anything specific about it afterwards. Further down the tracklist, "ROOM" has more personality in spades and the guitar riff has a quirky bounce to it that leaves it stuck in your brain. The song has a focused electricity to it that would make it perfect for anyone looking for driving music. And each part of it feels necessary to make the energy climb sky high. Even Hiroki's scream, while it's the same wild animalistic cry we got in "虚言NEUROSE" was called for and it didn't cut in like some abrupt interruption. "ROOM" felt more like MY FIRST STORY's version of what is popular right now, and not cloning someone else's version of it.

The album holds a few solid tunes with hints of old school flair that die-hard fans should enjoy, "If I Am.." defines the 'classic' MY FIRST STORY sound while letting the drums take center stage, even riding the fine line of overpowering the vocals at points. The band should explore more of this sound. The simple, stripped down style suits them and shows off the side of them that people fell in love with on their self titled album. "Someday" picks up where "If I Am..." left off and returns to the band's signature style. Drums continue to be the driving force only this time they are armed with electronics and a more intricate vocal melody. The passionate feeling in the vocals steals the show and reveals that Hiroki does have an impressive vocal range. The band took some risks and it's always nice to hear an expansion of their sound. "CHiLD -error-" opens with a monster drum line and plays with some punk influences in skank beats and three chord progressions on guitar. Their experimentation pays off because they didn't over-complicate it. I braced myself for a train wreck but "CHiLD -error-" stays the coarse and ends up being one of my favorites on the album.

On the other hand some songs fell flat and came far too close to ONE OK ROCK territory. I would consider this the most glaring flaw on 虚言NEUROSE. It's hard enough not to have comparison based on the Moriuchi brothers' similar voices, but in a perfect world that is where the comparisons would end. MY FIRST STORY is encroaching on a style ONE OK ROCK is already famous for. It's a bad move any way you slice it. The most disappointing of all were promotional tracks like "Black Rail" and "Fake" that were sent out to define this album and end up sounding like tired, cliché filler. This was exacerbated by bad tracklist placement. "Drive Me" and "Monochrome effector" came up short. While both had cool intros that stood out, the songs themselves didn't deliver and rested on the band's laurels with dull compositions. "Zero Gravity" is the summit of this album and harbors full-tilt screamed verses with fervent guitar-heavy aggression supporting it. The song has an unusual layering effect where the sung choruses have lower volume screams behind them that do not blend very well. It leaves me confused as to what direction they wanted to go or if it was simply a bad experiment. The song has another identity crisis soon after that and takes on an EDM(-ish) section that then tries to marry all three elements together and fails, leaving this album's climax rather anti-climactic.

The band themselves are adept musicians. The changes in their writing style shows they have the ability to grow and evolve as necessary. They can play a multitude of styles well. Now, this bias may be defined by my musical taste from an American perspective, but a band having it's own musical identity is a big part of what makes them worth listening to. 虚言NEUROSE has a few songs that I would recommend, but mostly it's a letdown. There's far too much filler and the songs that give them their own identity play second fiddle to other songs that resemble what other bands, much too close to home, already do better. MY FIRST STORY are a relatively young band, and they have a lot of time left to find themselves. I hope this album ends up as an experimental addition to their catalog and not a transitional one. Continuing down this path will only place them in an already overcrowded cannibalistic market that lets the trends define them instead of creating those trends.
